The area is a diver's paradise. Scuba diving classes are available from PADI qualified instructors with pick up from the villa. Enjoy a range of spa facilities, including the traditional Hamman, at the nearby Rhapsody Hotel. Kalkan's pleasant town beach and beach clubs are within walking distance.The best beaches on the Turquoise Coast are 20 minutes away by car or nearby town taxi service.Go turtle spotting in Patara. Take a boat trip to the surrounding islands, or further afield, from the harbour or the nearby town of Kas. Traditional Gulet cruises also run from Fethiye, an hour away along the picture perfect coast and through lush wooded valleys. If you tire of the beach, there's excellent walking, a National Park to explore and the area is rich in Lycian ruins , including spectacular rock tombs and amphitheatres -all set in stunning natural surroundings with an amazing range of flora and fauna to see. Whether you're dining by the harbour or enjoying a barbecue on your private terrace the view of the sun setting over the sea will be unforgettable.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Kalkan is an ideal base from which to explore the aptly named Turquoise coast with its many white sandy beaches, lush green wooded landscapes, towering mountains,spectacular gorges and wide range of protected wildlife. The area is a historical treasure trove, rich in archaological finds, set in lovely countryside teeming with wildlife.20 minutes drive up the coastal road in either direction will take you past rock tombs to the stunning byzantine remains of Myra, and a fascinating range of amphitheatres, roman baths, temples and arches which were once the ancient sea port of Patara.Look out for the friendly skylarks and lizards and a rain forest like array of wildlife on the trip through the ruins to the 18 kilometre sandy beach, where loggerhead turtles are protected. There are boat trips to nearby bays and islands, bustling ports and market towns with colourful fresh produce and craft markets to explore. The area has a temperate climate all year round , reflected in the warmth of the welcome from the locals.
Kalkan area
Kalkan's cobbled streets and charming traditional houses with timbered balconies overflowing with flowers lead down to the bustling harbour. Here there are a range of delightful cafes, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Sip a cool drink at Salt and Pepper, overlooking the marina and before long you'll have met half of the friendly population. Next day the waiters will all remember your name. Aubergine, with its super fresh sea food and candlelit terraces opening onto the harbourside is another delight . The streets of the old town are lined with unusual boutiques selling clothing and crafts and there's a market within easy reach almost every day of the week. Check out the silks, carpets and spices at the Thursday market in Kalkan.Service is friendly not pushy.English is widely spoken.There's a large and colourful English community and visitors are warmly welcomed.
How to get there
Airport transfer can be arranged from Dalaman and Antalya. Easyjet flights now available to both Dalaman and Antalya from Gatwick. Dalaman is a 1.5 hour drive. Antalya 2 hours' drive. Car hire can also be arranged.
