REVIEWS - 2013 SEASON
"Perfect Apartment" (Val & Richard, Oct 2013)
This is our 4th visit to Kalkan and Michelle and Ray's Apartment is the best we have stayed in. The location is perfect and very close to the amenities and truly only a short walk to the town centre. The views are to die for especially from the roof top balcony. The modern Kitchen was well stocked with glasses and crockery etc. The Welcome Pack was superb and great when we arrived at 1am exhausted from the flight from Scotland and the drive from Dalaman. Jane was a fund of local information and I can recommend her home-baked cakes and Latte coffees at Cafe Leon. Kalkan is the hidden jewel in Turkey - the restaurants are superb (Doy Doy for the best steaks and Hunkar Ocakbasi for the best Lamb Kebabs and a cheap night) and the locals are so friendly. Kalkan is a very romantic place for a lovely relaxing holiday. We hope to return to Kalkan and would definitely stay in this partment again."
"Excellent apartment" Martin C, Aug 2013
This is a lovely apartment both in terms of the d?cor and being very well maintained. The beds are very comfortable which isn't always the case at rental properties. It's in a great location ie close to the shops, town and harbour. The closest pool is not that big but the main pool is much larger and has a proper deep end so our girls aged 9 and 11 were very happy with that. The views from the balcony over the bay are superb. Jane who looks after the property is very nice and professional too. The info pack in the apartment has various restaurant recommendations but to be fair everywhere we eat was very good. We spent most of the week using the beach clubs around the bay and also in Kalamar Bay as the children preferred to swim in the sea. You don't need a car if you're in this apartment which is handy. Try to do a day trip on a gullet(Turkish boat)if you can although they get quite booked up. Patara beach definitely worth visiting too for both the beach and ancient ruins. We'd certainly highly recommend this apartment and may well book it again ourselves"

About this location
The Turkish Mediterranean Coast region
Turkey's Mediterranean shore, called the Turquoise Coast, is nearly 1600 km (994 miles) long, scattered with fine-sand beaches and sprinkled abundantly with classical cities turned to picturesque ruins.
It has more and better beaches and resorts than does the Aegean coast, and warmer, saltier water than the Black Sea coast.. The Taurus (Toros) Mountains form a dramatic backdrop along much of the coast, often dropping steeply right into the sea, but in some places rivers have washed down enough sediment over the ages to form beaches backed by fertile alluvial plains good for growing cotton, vegetables, and even tropical fruits like bananas.
Southwest Turkey, along and inland from the popular "Turquoise Coast", was home to the ancient Lycians who were one of the most enigmatic people of antiquity. Although little historical record has been left behind them, what has been discovered reveals a fascinating people culturally distinct from the rest of the ancient world. Around twenty major sites remain today with the Lycians' unusual funerary architecture dominating the breathtaking unspoiled land of Lycia.
Kalkan is an elegant harbour town set in the heart of the old Lycian region. It is cosmopolitan, with wonderful restaurants and great places to stay. The Taurus Mountains provide a stunning backdrop, whilst the views across the bay are remarkable
This beautiful and sophisticated bougainvillea-covered harbour town is set in a breathtaking landscape in the heart of the Turquoise Coast.
Tourism is still relatively new in Kalkan, with the first visitors being yachtsmen who discovered the delights of the harbor and the town in the late 1980's.Strict conservation laws have ensured that the heart of the old village retains an authentic ambience that attracts (according to the Sunday Times) the sort of visitor who might also be enchanted by, say, Tuscany or the Dordogne. The result is a discerning mix of predominantly British guests together with Istanbul Turks attracted by Kalkan's reputation within Turkey.
Winding cobbled streets, colourful shops and excellent harbour-side or roof terrace restaurants and bars are combined with stunning views – whether you are looking up to the dramatic Toros mountains behind the town, or down across the harbour to the broad sweep of the Mediterranean
