The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The Lycian Coast is outstanding in its beauty. "Rugged cliffs of pine forests plunge into turquoise sea. Between them are small bays of sand and shingle accessible only by boat. In ancient times the Lycians, mentioned in Homer's Iliad, settled here and the ruins of their cities and majestic rock tombs can easily be seen." Daily Telegraph.
The weather is marvelous from the beginning of May till the middle of October. http://www.exclusiveescapes.co.uk/pages/coastal-turkey-climate-guide has a guide of what can be done in each month of summer. This ranges from walking along the Lycian Way, trekking and bird watching, to the usual summer activities of boat trips, snorkelling and diving.
Kalkan is one of the most beautiful locations along the Lycian Coast. Kalkan remains a charming and unspoiled haven with brilliant blue crystal-clear sea, historic architecture, ancient history and traditional Turkish hospitality. According to the Sunday Times, "Kalkan attracts the kind of visitor who would also enjoy Tuscany or the Dordogne."
Apart from enjoying the lovely sea and sky there are lots of places to visit. Most are organised from the harbour area (A 5 minute shuttle boat trip from the villa) and include sailing trips, visits to the many historic sites nearby (e.g. the Roman ruins at Patara, which as an outstanding beach that has turtles)and canoeing, snorkelling, diving, paragliding, kayaking, canyoning. With a car you can easily visit the sites yourself.
