About the home

Kalkan Retreat (sleeps 8) is a contemporary, luxury, air-conditioned villa with 4 bedrooms each with it's own en-suite and three have their own private balcony. The interior is spacious and cool and has been designed to meet your every need. Outside it has its own private infinity swimming pool with extensive terraced garden areas and two barbecues (one traditional stone built and one gas).

There are sun loungers for all guests and charming shaded outdoor dining and seating areas. A table tennis table and equipment is provided as well as a Wii. The villa commands stunning uninterrupted sea and mountain views in the desirable and peaceful location of Kalamar Bay. It is only 5 minutes walk to the local beach club where you can sunbathe, swim in the clear waters of the Mediterranean, dine or enjoy the full range of water sports that are available.

The premier resort of Kalkan with its array of shops, restaurants, bars and nightlife is approximately a 15 minutes stroll or 3 minute taxi ride.

All rooms are air conditioned and there is travertine flooring throughout. The living, dining, kitchen areas are large, airy and open plan. The high spec kitchen has modern gloss units and a black granite work top. There is a water cooler and separate drinks fridge for the convenience of guests. The living area has folding back doors allowing air to circulate freely through the heat of the day.

There are four bedrooms in total, one on the ground floor and three on the first floor. Each bedroom has its own en suite and all the upstairs bedrooms have a private balcony with sea view. All the marbled bathrooms are of a very high specification. There is a separate wc on the ground floor.

There is a large travertine terrace offering panoramic views of Kalamar Bay. The villa has its own private infinity swimming pool (10m x 6m, depth 170cm) with underwater lighting and both walk in tiled steps and a metal ladder for access. There is an external shower for use before and after swimming For an additional charge the pool can be heated if requested but for the majority of the year this is not thought to be necessary. There are 8 sun loungers with 3 sun umbrellas. The walled gardens are beautifully stocked with bougainvillea and oleanders as well as various herbs and a lemon tree. The whole area is immediately adjacent to the living area and you can enjoy your own choice of music while relaxing in the pool.

The shaded dining area is the perfect place to have an al fresco supper on those long balmy, Turkish evenings. Beforehand enjoy pre-dinner drinks in one of the two comfortable seating areas. There is a brick built barbeque as well as a gas barbeque.
The swimming pool does not require to be heated during the high season but if you wish it is possible to heat if requested for an additional charge.
It is a 15 minute walk along the Kalamar Road into Kalkan and a 5 minute walk down hlll to the Kalamar Bay Beach Club. If you can tear yourself away from the peace and quiet of the villa, the beach club has the best water sports in the area, including a dive centre with a restaurant and very friendly staff. They will also pick up and return guests to the villa if requested. On the Kalamar Road there are a variety of shops, restaurants, small supermarkets and a pharmacy.

Conditions

In order to confirm a booking, payment of 40% of the total price is required. The remaining 60% plus a £300 damages deposit is due 6 weeks prior to departure. The damages deposit will be returned in full within two weeks of your return as long as there is no damage beyond the normal wear and tear.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

This beautiful region of Turkey has dramatic, breathtaking views and is steeped in history. Few places can rival it for unspoiled natural beauty with pine covered mountains plunging into the sea, secluded coves, fine sand beaches and the whole region sprinkled with picturesque ruins.
At the southwest corner of the Turkish coast (Turquoise Coast) lies one of the most beautiful and unspoiled areas of the Mediterranean. Kalkan was once occupied by the Greek Ottomans and their legacy has left an old town full of character. It has steep cobbled streets that wind down towards the harbour and the locals are exceptionally friendly.

The Kalkan / Kalamar Bay area

During the day Kalkan is almost disarmingly laid-back, as visitors choose to enjoy the crystal clear waters lapping the Lycian coast. The public beach next to Kalkan's harbour was recently extended and is more than adequate for swimming and sunbathing. However you choose to spend your days, no-one can resist being back in Kalkan in the evening, for the variety and quality of eating places on offer is quite astonishing for such a compact town. There are little restaurants that are so low key that many visitors never notice them; just the place to enjoy delicious and genuine local cooking.

Magical surroundings, a dash of relaxed sophistication and a seemingly limitless variety of places to explore make Kalkan irresistible. The restaurants in Kalkan offer an exceptionally high standard of food and service (some of the best prepared and freshest food we've tasted on our worldwide travels). Many restaurants have romantic roof terraces looking out over Kalkan. Eating out is excellent value and the Turkish wines are surprisingly good. The pretty cobbled streets of the old town are an Aladdin's cave with an abundance of shops selling clothes, jewellery, handbags, gifts, etc. There is also a weekly market on a Thursday. There are a number of bars that stay open through the small hours and play music but no loud nightclubs.

Dalaman is the closest airport and transfers to the villa take just over 1.5 hours. Antalya is also accessible, transfers take approximately 3 hours.

“Holiday perfection - gorgeous villa, beautiful views!” Kalkan Retreat has to be the best holiday villa that we have ever rented - top quality accommodation, unbeatable views, very well equipped with everything you could possibly need, lovely swimming pool. Great to have the wifi and the Wii in the games room was an added bonus on the one stormy day. The table tennis table game us lots of fun as well. The management team gave very attentive service and were on hand if we needed them. The transfer arranged with Enes was also very good and made both our arrival and departure go completely smoothly. Our whole week's experience simply could not have been bettered. Thank you Pauline for all your superb attention to detail in the renting out of Kalkan Retreat!

“Perfect Stay” I feel so lucky to have booked our week stay in South Turquie at Kalkan Retreat : it exceeded our expectations and there was not a worry or disappointment. The kitchen is a real one with a large area to prepare food with friends while enjoying the view at the Sea. The layout of the Villa is very practical and spacious. The maintenance team from Karsan is top , Swimming pool was checked regularly . The area is very quiet and less touristic than the center of Kalkan. We enjoyed going to the Free Beach down the road on the right side , Water was like in a postcard ... I never wrote a guest feedback before , this is my first time ... i took the time to do it because we really appreciated the quality of our stay at this place and thought the Owner disserves a recognition : Bravo Pauline !

“Fantastic well equipped villa offering breaktaking views.” Our party consisted of two families, 4 adults, 4 children. When we arrived we were very pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of Kalkan Retreat. All the rooms were very well laid out and furnished. All four bedrooms are a very good size with ensuites and it was fantastic to see lots of cupboard space! The kitchen was extremely well equipped with a lovely large fridge, essential for keeping the drinks cold! The sitting room was comfortable with satellite TV which was a godsend as the London Olympics were on so we were able to keep up to date on how TeamGB were doing. The large patio doors led out to a large table, under cover, again with very comfortable chairs. The patio area afforded many sun traps but also welcome 'little retreats' on comfy sofas if you needed shade. Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. My boys loved the table tennis. The infinity pool was lovely and spotlessly clean. Location good, although a steep walk down to Kalamar Beach Club which is well worth visiting for the water sports alone. We hired two boats and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves motoring along the shoreline, snorkelling in the turquoise clear waters looking at the fish. The food in Kalkan is fantastic, in fact we ate out most evenings and didn't have a bad meal, the Turkish people are lovely, can't do enough for you. We would have no hesitation in recommending this villa. The maintenance team were wonderful, delivering fresh bread everyday and replenishing our water cooling bottles when needed, always friendly and helpful. The villa was kept in very good condition. From start to finish the owner Pauline has been informative, friendly and very efficient. Arranging our airport transfers both ways and always on the end of an email giving us as much information about the resort as we needed. Thank you Pauline. Go, you won't regret it.

“I have found my new "happy place"!” Having lived in Asia for the past 3 years I have been very fortunate to have stayed in many beautiful villas in Bali, Phuket etc. However this is the first time I have stayed in a villa or apartment where there was absolutely nothing I could complain about. The villa itself is beautiful. Modern, clean and very nicely furnished. One of the best equipped kitchens with plenty of plates and glasses. Various outdoor areas in and out of the shade to relax. The pool is fantastic and was large enough for all 7 of us (4 adults and 3 children aged 6 to 9). Probably the best thing about Kalkan Retreat is the stunning views from the property. I would never tire of looking at that view. Location was also great. A 5 minute walk to a few well stocked shops and nice restaurants. A longer walk or short taxi ride to more shops and amazing restaurants around Kalkan harbour. The villa is looked after by a great team who keep it very clean and will help with anything. What more can I say we loved it and can't wait to go back.

“Excellent villa in a beautiful location with brilliant maintenance team.” We fell in love with Kalkan last year - a real "home from home". There are a lot of British ex-pats in Kalkan but don't let that put you off, this is not Benidorm! English is widely spoken and "real" Turkey is less than 10 minutes drive away. The fantastic Patara beach (18km of sand) is less than 20 minutes drive away. For the culture vultures Patara and Xanthos are a must (less than 25 minutes drive). A trip up into the mountains is also a must - trout farms and resturants serving... trout! Well worth the drive as whilst the resturants are more rustic the price is 80% of that in Kalkan. Talking of restaurants there are hundreds - to suit all budgets. The top ones (like the Fish Terrace) would not be out of place in Central London except the price - well below Central London prices. Most are of good to excellent qaulity. Another "must" is the trip to Meis - a Greek island just 30 minutes boat ride from Kas. Cost is about £20 per person but an opportunity to go back to the good old EU and stock up on duty frees! The duty free is basically a shack but sells all the essentials - a handy facilty as alcohol is expensive in Turkey. We hired a car from Dalaman Cars (booked in UK) for the second year running. Effortless pick up from the airport and return (again at the airport). The drive was pretty painless (about 2 hours from Dalaman to Kalkan) although beware of speed traps on the main road (D400). Back to the villa... Kalkan Retreat is actually overlooking Kalamar bay - the next bay round to Kalkan. The area is pretty quiet although shops and bars etc. are available locally (less than 5 mins walk). A 5 min drive will take you into Kalkan. This villa is spotless and well provided. Nice touches are the water cooler (refilled by the maintence folks at 7TL (less than £3) for 19ltrs) which meant no lugging bottles of water around, the games room (air conditioned) and the daily bread delivery. In our two week stay the maintenace folks gave the place a heavy clean 5 times! each time spending at least 2 hours and basically anything that didn't move was cleaned. All the bedding and towels were changed. In between it was just "cleaned" again another 30 minute extravaganza. Anything we did not like? In a word NO. This villa is excellently provided for, in a beautiful location over looking Kalamar bay and is maintained within an inch of its life.

“Great Villa and location” We stayed for a week at the villa in the first week of April. We choose the villa for it's heated swimming pool for this time of year, and its location. The villa was furnished to an high standard and very modern. Very well equipped with lots of facilties. The children loved the pool. And the views were wonderful from the bedrooms especially.. Would definitely consider staying there again . Only problem was mosquitos in one of the rooms despite the plugs. The owner and previous guests had left a book with useful information about local restaurants etc.

“Perfect” Have been to Kalkan Retreat three times now, and have booked again for Spetember - which speaks for itself. We took my partners children - ages 18 and 20 - last year , and have been under severe pressure ever since to book again. This villa truly suits all of us - spacious bedrooms, own bathrooms, plenty of different relaxing areas and a lovely pool. Everything has been thought through and we wanted for nothing. The maintenance of the villa is excellent, the team who service it are so obliging - nothing is too much trouble for them. Kalkan has great shops and restaurants and a huge market, so there is plenty to do - although we were hard pressed to leave the villa. There are plenty of great places to eat in town, with lovely rooftop and waterside locations. We were equally happy barbecuing at the villa or having food delivered, and enjoying the amazing views from all the terraces. We all highly recommend it!

“FAB” Kalkan Retreat is truly an exceptional villa. We have stayed here several times and the quality and standard of everything in the villa is amazing. It is really and truly a home away from home. The owners have not left a stone unturned. Add this gorgeous villa and setting to divine food, truly lovely people, amazing shopping and of course sunshine and you have all the makings of a wonderful holiday.

“Every day at Kalkan Retreat is special from the moment you wake up with the morning sun on the terrace to the minute you” I have stayed at Kalkan Retreat three times and i cannot fault it in any way. It is the most stunning villa and holiday destination for a family, group of friends or just a couple. The villa sits on a hill overlloking kalkan Bay and the islands in the distance. You just never want to leave. Eating breakfast on the shaded terrace looking at the shimmering sea, the bouganvilea and everything Mediterranean is just the perfect way to start the day. A leisurely swim in the infinity pool follows and then a short walk to the beach if you feel like it. The vila is furnished with style and taste but also very very comfortable and is very well equipped with everything one needs from a corkscrew to a table tennis table. When the sun sets in the evening a walk into town for a huge choice of restaurants ad some fun shopping for the ladies. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
