The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
This beautiful region of Turkey has dramatic, breathtaking views and is steeped in history. Few places can rival it for unspoiled natural beauty with pine covered mountains plunging into the sea, secluded coves, fine sand beaches and the whole region sprinkled with picturesque ruins.
At the southwest corner of the Turkish coast (Turquoise Coast) lies one of the most beautiful and unspoiled areas of the Mediterranean. Kalkan was once occupied by the Greek Ottomans and their legacy has left an old town full of character. It has steep cobbled streets that wind down towards the harbour and the locals are exceptionally friendly.
During the day Kalkan is almost disarmingly laid-back, as visitors choose to enjoy the crystal clear waters lapping the Lycian coast. The public beach next to Kalkan's harbour was recently extended and is more than adequate for swimming and sunbathing. However you choose to spend your days, no-one can resist being back in Kalkan in the evening, for the variety and quality of eating places on offer is quite astonishing for such a compact town. There are little restaurants that are so low key that many visitors never notice them; just the place to enjoy delicious and genuine local cooking.
Magical surroundings, a dash of relaxed sophistication and a seemingly limitless variety of places to explore make Kalkan irresistible. The restaurants in Kalkan offer an exceptionally high standard of food and service (some of the best prepared and freshest food we've tasted on our worldwide travels). Many restaurants have romantic roof terraces looking out over Kalkan. Eating out is excellent value and the Turkish wines are surprisingly good. The pretty cobbled streets of the old town are an Aladdin's cave with an abundance of shops selling clothes, jewellery, handbags, gifts, etc. There is also a weekly market on a Thursday. There are a number of bars that stay open through the small hours and play music but no loud nightclubs.

"Our best villa holiday ever!"
The villa exceeded our expectations in both quality and location. The villa is equipped to a high standard and is very well maintained.
You are looked after by a very efficient maintenance team who look after your villa during your stay and deliver water for an automatic cooler and fresh daily bread should this be required.
You overlook Kalamar bay and enjoy stunning views from most rooms and terraces of the villa.
The villa is situated in a quieter part of Kalkan with several good restaurants and a couple of well stocked small supermarkets within a 5 minute walk. However, the lovely harbour town of Kalkan is only a £5 taxi ride away or a 20 minute downhill walk. Would recommend a taxi ride home though - which is no problem at any time of night due to the excellent taxi system.
Kalkan has an upmarket feel with over 100 great restaurants (minimal sky TV bars with all day football), so need to ever eat in the same place twice. Many are situated on rooftop terraces and our experience of the food was never a disappointment. Great food for vegetarians also - you can enjoy genuine Turkish food without having to eat pizza and pasta if prefer not to!
The locals are very friendly and seem genuinely pleased you are there.
Our teenagers discovered the 2 'clubs' and spent several nights in town until the small hours, making their own way back by taxi. It felt very safe.
There is plenty to do if you want a day away from the villa. Canoeing, tubing, historic sites, great beaches (pebble and sand) and water sports. Trips can be easily arranged locally and you wouldn't need a car to enjoy the holiday. We did hire a car for a few days and went further afield - the roads were surprisingly good and quiet.
The owner is very helpful and gave us plenty of useful information. She also arranged taxi transfers from the airport for us which were excellent and good value as well as arranging our hire car to be delivered to the villa.
The only 'negative' comment would be that I don't think that the location would be that ideal for the very elderly or very young due its hilly nature. However, for us this was no problem with older children and of course is why the views are always so great.
All in all a fantastic holiday and the first time we have had a unanimous vote to visit the same place twice!

"We would definitely like to go back to Kalkan Retreat."
This is an excellent villa with very good views out to sea to Mouse and Snake Islands. Our family of seven was easily accommodated with spacious en-suite bedrooms. The property is very well maintained inside & outside and is cleaned every day. The terrace outside is spacious and you can cool down in a good sized swimming pool or take advantage of the air-conditioning inside. We had fun playing table tennis most days and found the WiFi access very useful.
There is an approximate 15 minute walk down into the town but most of the time a taxi back uphill is advisable (14TL and there were taxis that accommodated 7 people for the same price).
There are lots of restaurants to choose from but our favourite was The Fish Terrace (a roof top restaurant with lovely views over the harbour and bay) which is run by Korsan Ltd who maintained our villa. They give a discount for people staying at the villa.
When we ate at the villa the best food could be sourced from the butcher near the roundabout and the fisherman's shack down the stairs from the taxi rank (big fresh prawns for 2TL each).
There are a couple of convenience stores within 5 minutes walk of the villa for everyday purchases such as drinks and ice-creams.
The owner of the villa was excellent. She made sure we were provided with a welcome pack of drinks and some food items. She also arranged transfers to and from the airport (ENES car rental).
We would definitely like to go back to Kalkan Retreat.

"Great Villa in Super Location!"
A wonderful holiday was had by all in a lovely spacious villa. All four of the bedrooms were of good size ( the pictures don't do the twin room justice). We wanted a villa with all en-suites and the quality of each exceeded our expectations. The villa is finished to a very high standard, very modern and we could not really fault it in anyway. Having a Water cooler is a nice touch and such a nice change to have a villa with plenty of glasses.
The outside area is of good size with a nice infinity pool and the ping pong table was used for many hours over the two weeks. Previously we had stayed north of the main road so quite a hike into Kalkan. Kalkan retreat is set in a far better location, a 15/20 minute walk into town but if you want to eat locally there are several choices within a 5 minute walk, Aqua was our choice of those local restaurants. Also two mini supermarkets within a 5 minute walk which makes life so easy for those every day bits you need. We did not feel the need for a car, taxi into Kalkan is only 15tl and getting one back after eating out is easy as the taxi rank is in the centre of town. Transfer charge of only£75 each way, so as we wanted a lazy holiday, did not feel a car was necessary. We had a great day out on Captains Osman boat, £100 for five was great value, bearing in mind it
Korsan team were excellent, very friendly and always on hand should you need them. We ate at their fish restaurant twice, great food and you get a discount if you stay at Kalkan retreat. So many good restaurants, such a great place we hope to be back

"Kalkan Retreat - a great getaway"
I have visited Kalkan Retreat twice now. Once in May 2011 and after a very enjoyable time in excellent accommodation I decided to return again in May 2013. I went with a group of friends and we each had our own bedroom and bathroom. My room had the most beautiful view out over the ocean with a small balcony with a chair and table to sit and enjoy the sunshine. The quality of the bed and bed linen was excellent. Very soft and comfortable.
There were 3 bedrooms upstairs. The master bedroom was huge with views over the ocean as well. Downstairs was another bedroom overlooking the infinity pool also with an ensuite bathroom.
The kitchen was well equipped and the lounge furniture was high quality and very comfortable facing the outside patio with the ocean in the distance. Around the pool were sun lounges for us all. There were also different outside areas. Little nooks for curling up and reading a book in the sun or sitting around in the BBQ area. A tennis table was the scene of many a competitive game. The cleaning staff did a great job being very discreet.
We loved the restaurants and shops in Kalkan. The food was excellent and the local people very friendly. I bought handbags, silver jewellery and clothes. We also had a fantastic Turkish Bath, massage and clay mask in one of the local massage parlours.
All in all I just love this part of the world and staying at Kalkan Retreat is so comfortable and easy.

"Holiday perfection - gorgeous villa, beautiful views!"
Kalkan Retreat has to be the best holiday villa that we have ever rented - top quality accommodation, unbeatable views, very well equipped with everything you could possibly need, lovely swimming pool. Great to have the wifi and the Wii in the games room was an added bonus on the one stormy day. The table tennis table game us lots of fun as well. The management team gave very attentive service and were on hand if we needed them. The transfer arranged with Enes was also very good and made both our arrival and departure go completely smoothly. Our whole week's experience simply could not have been bettered. Thank you Pauline for all your superb attention to detail in the renting out of Kalkan Retreat!

I feel so lucky to have booked our week stay in South Turquie at Kalkan Retreat : it exceeded our expectations and there was not a worry or disappointment. The kitchen is a real one with a large area to prepare food with friends while enjoying the view at the Sea.
The layout of the Villa is very practical and spacious. The maintenance team from Karsan is top , Swimming pool was checked regularly .
The area is very quiet and less touristic than the center of Kalkan. We enjoyed going to the Free Beach down the road on the right side , Water was like in a postcard ...
I never wrote a guest feedback before , this is my first time ... i took the time to do it because we really appreciated the quality of our stay at this place and thought the Owner disserves a recognition : Bravo Pauline !

"Fantastic well equipped villa offering breaktaking views."
Our party consisted of two families, 4 adults, 4 children. When we arrived we were very pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of Kalkan Retreat. All the rooms were very well laid out and furnished. All four bedrooms are a very good size with ensuites and it was fantastic to see lots of cupboard space! The kitchen was extremely well equipped with a lovely large fridge, essential for keeping the drinks cold! The sitting room was comfortable with satellite TV which was a godsend as the London Olympics were on so we were able to keep up to date on how TeamGB were doing. The large patio doors led out to a large table, under cover, again with very comfortable chairs. The patio area afforded many sun traps but also welcome 'little retreats' on comfy sofas if you needed shade. Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. My boys loved the table tennis. The infinity pool was lovely and spotlessly clean. Location good, although a steep walk down to Kalamar Beach Club which is well worth visiting for the water sports alone. We hired two boats and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves motoring along the shoreline, snorkelling in the turquoise clear waters looking at the fish. The food in Kalkan is fantastic, in fact we ate out most evenings and didn't have a bad meal, the Turkish people are lovely, can't do enough for you. We would have no hesitation in recommending this villa. The maintenance team were wonderful, delivering fresh bread everyday and replenishing our water cooling bottles when needed, always friendly and helpful. The villa was kept in very good condition. From start to finish the owner Pauline has been informative, friendly and very efficient. Arranging our airport transfers both ways and always on the end of an email giving us as much information about the resort as we needed. Thank you Pauline. Go, you won't regret it.
