The Turkish Mediterranean Coast region
The Turkish Mediterranean Coast
There is something for everyone surrounding Kalkan!
If you are a culture vulture, a beach lover or an action seeker, this part of the Turquoise coast offers it all. Turkey is a mountainous country which contains wonderful preserves of unspoiled countryside offering varied wildlife, flora and fauna. In every direction you are rewarded with breathtaking views and stunning scenery. The area has strong Nomadic links and families up until the 1960's spent their winters in the coastal areas and hotter months in the mountain villages.
Within easy reach ancient ruins include Patara, Tlos, Pinara, Letoon, Kekova, Phellos, Myra to name but a few! These trips can be arranged as either private or group days out and include lunch and entrance fees.
Other activities within are short distance of Kalkan include;
Patara Beach, 'Take nothing but memories...leave nothing but footprints...' The endless white sands are breathtakingly beautiful. Sun beds and umbrellas are available to hire. The attractive Beach Cafe offers an array of food to delight the taste buds. The beach also has showers and toilet facilities.
Saklikent Gorge, The Canyon is 300 meters deep and 18 km long, one of the deepest in the world, resulting from the abrasion of the rocks by flowing waters over thousands of years. As the level of water rises during winter months, visitors can enter the canyon only in the summer. Four kilometers of the canyon are walk able after April, when most of the snow from the Taurus Mountains has melted and passed through on its way to the Mediterranean Sea. Saklıkent means "hidden city" in Turkish. There are beautiful restaurants set by the river were you can enjoy lunch and the opportunity to ringo down the river and experience a mud bath.
Kaputas Beach, a sandy cove nestled at the foot of a striking mountain gorge, 10 minutes from Kalkan. Umbrellas are available and cold drinks and snacks.
Horse Riding, a romantic way to explore the countryside and see the amazing beach. Whilst you ride through the hills of Patara you will experience amazing views of the ancient city of Patara.
Canoeing, Patara National Park offers an exhilarating day, even for those inexperienced of us, canoeing down the river from Xanthos to Patara Beach stopping for a barbeque lunch along the way under the shade of the river bank.
Boat Trips, For sea lovers there is ample opportunity to set sail! Spend the day meandering along the coastline and around the Islands. Snorkel and swim in the crystal clear turquoise blue waters of the Mediterranean, enjoy lunch onboard in a secluded bay. Even the opportunity of a mud bath awaits you!
Moonlight Cruise, a leisurely evening around the Bay of Kalkan. Dinner is served under the stars!
Diving, experience the beauty of the underwater world of the Mediterranean. A wide variety of Diving opportunities await you including courses and Packs for those more experienced.
Beach Clubs, Offering all manner of water activities, waterskiing, ringos, wake boarding, banana boats, speed boat hire and dinghy sailing plus the necessary sun beds for those who wish to relax and watch!
For Bargain Hunters there are local markets, on different days. Kalkan and Kas are small but offer plenty of opportunity to purchase textiles. leather goods, spices, copper ware, jewellery, Turkish towels and the weekly food shop! Nearby in Fethiye there is a larger Market for those who wish to venture out of Kalkan itself.
Paragliding, The ultimate adrenalin rush! Fully qualified Pilots will tandem jump with you from the peak of Baba Dag, glide down to Oludeniz Beach whilst absorbing the breathtaking scenery.
Islamlar Village, set in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, famous for fresh Trout, here the views over Kalkan will blow you away.
Trekking, these can be arranged in the local area during the cooler months.
Hamam, Turkish Bath, no trip to Turkey would be complete without a visit to a Turkish Hamam. Enjoy an invigorating wash, cleanse and scrub, followed by a relaxing aromatherapy or oil massage.
Car hire, airport transfers and all these excursions can be arranged with ourselves during your stay
Kalkan is a very un-spoilt, picturesque, harbour village based on the Mediterranean coast.
It has become a desirable holiday spot for holiday makers seeking a peaceful, relaxing holiday location with a little sophistication.
The village snuggles into the Cliff-side and overlooks the bay.
Old Kalkan boasts winding, cobbled streets and bougainvillea covered houses which all lead down to its pretty Beach and Harbour. Here you can experience amazing cuisine whilst watch the world go by.
These beautiful, cobbled streets offer delightful shopping opportunities from handmade carpets, bespoke jewellery, glassware, colourful ceramics, local crafts and delicious, locally grown produce.
From the Harbour you can catch a boat to one of the many beach clubs where you can choose to chill on a sun bed sipping cocktails, snorkel in the crystal clear waters or engage in any of the water sports including Diving, Ringo's, Banana Boats and Jet skiing to name but a few.
Evening spent in Kalkan are full of a welcoming ambience. The café's and restaurants spill out into the streets and Kalkan truly comes alive. The cuisine is varied, is of an exceptional quality and all delicious! Many roof Terrace restaurants offer breathtaking views whilst you dine at your leisure.
One of the true delights of Kalkan is that it has escaped 'mass tourism' whilst still being located where those who wish to venture further afield can do so easily.
It is simply a holiday destination where it's impossible not to be wooed by its charm.
