The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Kalkan is located at the very heart of ancient Lycia with a myriad of interesting, historical sites close by, including Xanthos, Letoon, Pinara, Tlos and Patara. Kekova, Demre, Myra, Phaselis, Olympos and Aspendos. Also within a short drive is Kaya, the ghost village abandoned during the population exchange of 1923- a subject brought to life in the latest Louis De Berniere novel, Birds without Wings. Fethiye and Olu Deniz are approx one hour's drive - perfect for a day trip.
Kalkan is renowned for its superb restaurants, the best to be had in coastal Turkey. Here, you will find menus to suit all pockets and tastes. These are mainly situated along the harbour front or on roof terraces offering excellent views over the sea, superb fresh fish and seafood. A wonderful evening can be enjoyed in a relaxing ambience soaking up the atmosphere of the village at night. Many of these restaurants feature annually in reports provided by national newspapers in the UK. Although sophisticated and chic, these have still retained their Turkish charm.
Shops are very good quality with a range of merchandise available from arts and crafts to ‘designer’ handbags. There is a range of boutique style bag shops that hold many bargains compared to UK prices. There is also an excellent weekly Thursday market providing many opportunities for bargain hunting from t-shirts and jeans to spices and local farmer’s food produce. There is bank with ATM machine and a Post Office both in the village.
Kalkan / Kalkan Centre area
The delights of Kalkan's restaurants, beach and harbour are only a genuine 2 minute walk away. Kalkan has its own village beach which is pebbly while Patara beach, with its 18km unspoilt golden sands, (often sited as one of the world's best beaches) is only a 20 min drive away. There are also many other small sandy coves within 5 mins drive ie. Kaputas beach which is a beautiful secluded cove - real Robinson Crusoe style!
The choice of high quality Kalkan restaurants, to suit all tastes and pockets, keep visitors returning to Kalkan year after year. The Sahane apartment is the perfect location for sampling these famous eateries and quaint watering holes at your leisure without having to rely on taxis after that memorable dinner!
Kalkan is a small fishing village on the south west coast of Turkey with winding cobbled streets and alleyways, which has expanded gradually over recent years. The ancient old town retains its original character, surrounded by the awesome Taurus mountains. At its centre lies the harbour with a mix of local fishing craft, traditional gulets and visiting yachts.
Kalkan harbour provides gulet trips for a 'lazy day at sea' around the bays which are great for relaxing and sea swimming at various stops around the bays.
There are also many beach clubs close by, which offer free taxi services. Kalkan has numerous beach clubs, including Kalamar beach club and are excellent, with sunbathing platforms, direct sea access & great lunches at on site restaurants.
How to get there
How to get there - You can fly to Dalaman from all major UK airports, with a huge range of tour operators. Some suggestions are provided below. - Transfer arrangements can be made if necessary. These cost approx £45 each way from Dalaman airport for 3 people and luggage. The journey is approximately 1hr 30 minutes transfer time to the apartment and the journey is beautiful. We can provide assistance/advice with flight, transfer or car hire arrangements. Winter flights are now available to Dalaman. - Car hire is available either from Dalaman airport or in Kalkan. - Taxis in Kalkan are cheap and plentiful. - Good network of public Transport Dolmus/Coaches which run very regularly to and from Kas, a neighbouring town, to Fethiye and to the beautiful Patara beach. Further details indoors: The apartment has been finished to an impeccable standard and has been tastefully decorated in a contemporary coastal Turkish style using quality furnishings. The apartment's living area and bedrooms all boast fabulous balconies from which to enjoy a relaxing sundowner looking out over the bay and neighbouring islands offers uninterrupted, panoramic sea views. Furthermore, the penthouse bedroom is surrounded on all sides by private spacious sun terraces which have been furnished with sunbeds and patio furniture for guests' additional privacy and comfort. For those who prefer to soak up the sun next to the pool, there is an attractive shared pool with additional sun terraces, again with those great sea views and this is shared with only two other apartments! The apartment enjoys full air conditioning and has attractive antique marble floors throughout in addition to feature limestone archway in the living and dining area. There is a spacious open plan living & dining area, which offers balcony access.
The lounge area is furnished with comfortable sofas and occasional furniture in addition to a satellite LCD TV which has plenty of English channels, CD and DVD player.
The contemporary kitchen provides all guests will need - and more. It is finished with solid granite worktops and is fully equipped with a stainless steel hob and oven, extractor fan, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer as well as numerous electrical gadgets including a useful juicer and ice crusher. Of-course, all new crockery, cutlery and utensils are also provided to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
The apartment has a penthouse master bedroom upstairs which has its own en-suite for additional privacy and a further 2 spacious bedrooms downstairs - one with a double bed and the other with twin beds. Both have ample wardrobe and drawer space as well as dressing tables and mirrors. Each bedroom has its own private balcony with incredible views. An English speaking 'meet and greet' service will welcome you no matter what time of day or night you arrive and provide an on-site point of contact. A welcome hamper will also await guests to provide initial provisions. Bedlinen and towels provided. Please bring your own beach towels. Twice weekly cleaning and linen change. Iron and ironing board provided. We are more than happy to assist with locating suitable flights or booking transfers/car hire on your behalf.
Further details outdoors: The Sahane is part of a small development of privately owned villas and apartments, enjoying what could be arguably one of the best locations in Kalkan. The apartment's penthouse suite enjoys private sun terraces with a wraparound balcony and there is also a beautiful pool & sunbathing area, which is only shared with two other (smaller) apartments. Here, sun loungers and parasols are provided for the sole use of guests. The apartment has its own private lobby and entrance.
Conditions
A 25% (minimum £150) non-refundable deposit is required to secure booking with the balance payable 8 weeks prior to arrival.
A refundable damage/breakages deposit is required 8 weeks prior to arrival. This will be returned on clearance by local agent, approx one week after departure.
The apartment is not suitable for persons of limited mobility and for very young children.
