Apartment | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 4
If you are looking for a comfortable, well equipped one-bedroom apartment with a great pool, superb facilities and an enviable location near to the centre of Kalkan, look no further!
Location is just about everything in this town. Regulars will tell you that you should avoid being stuck out on Kalamar Bay or in the Patara Prince resort, where you have to either get an expensive taxi or suffer a long hot walk to get to Kalkan's wonderful restaurants & bars.
Our apartment's location is superb - very peaceful, with a lovely relaxed atmosphere... but a quick, easy stroll to the town centre, so you can enjoy Kalkan's delights to the full and still get back in one piece!
The apartment is set on the first floor of a small block of five (we also own one other one-bedroom apartment in the block, a two-bed apartment on the top floor and also a twin-bed studio apartment, any of which may be available for rent if this one is booked). All of the apartments are privately-owned and share a huge, spotlessly clean pool.
The apartment block is adjacent to the Nur Hotel, which owned the apartments until they were sold on to us. Our apartment and studio guests are very welcome to use the Nur's facilities, including the pizzeria, coffee lounge and bar, snack facilities and free wi-fi. You can even order a takeaway pizza from them if you fancy a meal in your apartment but can't be bothered to cook!
Our guests' comments (see below) often mention the friendly attentiveness of the hotel staff but you are under no obligation to use the Nur's facilities if you don't want to... just keep yourselves to yourselves if you prefer... after all, it's your holiday!!

Our "Sunset" apartment is on the first floor with a good-sized balcony at the rear of the block, away from the impressive shared swimming pool, which is surrounded by sun terraces with allocated sun-loungers and parasols... if the poolside and sun terrace get too hot, you can always bring a parasol up from the pool area, sit in the shade of the olive tree or cool off in the air-conditioned apartment!
There is a supermarket almost next door for essential provisions and a patisserie just over the road for fresh breakfast rolls and pastries etc, together with a pharmacy and a doctor's surgery within a couple of minutes; the nearest restaurant is also within two minutes' walk. Kalkan old town is just a five minute walk down a gentle slope.
You can work off any excesses at the gym behind the supermarket (fully air-conditioned, of course) and then take a luxurious Turkish bath, all in the same complex. Perfect relaxation, all within a minute's walk.
As we mentioned earlier, location was at the very top of our list when we were looking for our apartments in Kalkan!
The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
At the centre of the Lycian region, Kalkan is well placed for visiting many historical sites such as Xanthos, Letoon, Pinara, Tlos, Patara, Kekova (the Sunken City), Demre, Myra, Phaselis, Olympos, Aspendos and the Saklikent Gorge.
Kalkan is friendly, warm and charming, with an assortment of cosmopolitan restaurants and bars, many with rooftop terraces and superb views, crammed between boutiques and shops in amongst the cobbled streets. The locals are very welcoming and the whole town has a unique feel that attracts visitors back year after year. Most holidaymakers you meet in Kalkan have either been before... or, if it is their first time, they vow to return soon!
Kalkan is relatively quiet by day - most holidaymakers choose either to relax by the pool, or go to one of the many beach clubs; maybe take a boat trip, or go sightseeing, or just browse the many shops and boutiques in the cobbled streets. All very relaxed! However, the town and harbour area come to life after sundown, when the bars and restaurants (we believe there are over 100, but who's counting?) open up and offer their hospitality.
The food here is legendary; always of a high standard - thanks to the healthy competition - and the menus are extremely varied, from traditional Turkish recipes to international high cuisine; using fresh local produce and always prepared with tender loving care. These guys are very proud of what they do, and they do it very well!
We've never yet met anyone who doesn't love the place.
In the year 400 BC, Herodotus said of Kalkan: “It is the closest place to the stars on Earth” and, according to rumour, one who drinks from Kalkan Spring can never leave…we don’t actually know if the Spring still exists, but it is easy to see why the rumour has persisted. One visit and you are hooked!
