About the home

Villa K is located within a picturesque, traditional Greek village with tavernas, shops and bars yet is only five minutes’ drive from the beautiful family-friendly beaches of the up-market resort of Kalives with a great choice of amenities and restaurants.

The villa benefits from its own private pool (complete with sun loungers and umbrella), with a shallow end perfect for children and non-slip terrace around the pool. There are several large, furnished outside terraces including a raised, shaded seating and BBQ area to one end of the pool from where you can keep an eye on the kids in the pool whilst enjoying lunch. On the first floor is a very large furnished terrace with shade from where you can enjoy the views and a pre-dinner drink and the most amazing views across the olive groves to the coast at Kalives and the Akrotiri peninsula.

With two doubles (including one downstairs), one twin bedroom and two comfortable double sofa beds in the lounge, the villa is ideal for families with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay.

Lounge with two excellent double sofa beds, TV, DVD, ceiling fan, coffee table and two sets of French doors onto outside terraces. Well stocked bookshelf that also includes DVDs.

Large terrace with table and chairs on first floor, superb for breakfast and evening drinks with amazing views over olive groves to the sea. Large covered terrace by poolside with huge table and chairs plus BBQ. Furnished ground floor terrace.

Villa offers one bedroom and bathroom on ground floor and several furnished ground floor terraces for convenience of older guests. Most of our guests have young children. The pool has railings around the terrace and non-slip tiles around and in it. The raised terrace at the end of the pool allows you to keep a close eye.

Conditions

Preferred changeover day is Tuesday. Please request availability for other arrival days.

Deposit required to secure booking of £500. Balance payable 8 weeks prior to departure. Breakage deposit of £200 is payable with final balance and will be returned following stay. Payment via paypal or cheque.

The Crete region

Crete is an island with an exquisite 1,000 kilometre-long coastline dotted with numerous coves, bays and peninsulas, which afford a multitude of soft, sandy beaches along the beautifully blue Mediterranean Sea. Crete is known as home of the Minoan civilization with important archaeological finds.

Crete is the largest island in Greece - the fifth largest in the Mediterranean - with more than 8,000 square
kilometres, there is plenty to discover.

The weather in Crete is characterised by mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers. The climate of Crete is a temperate Mediterranean climate and is suitable for year round holidays. Why not take advantage of the lovely weather in April/May and September/October when it's nice and quiet?

The Kalives, Crete area

Kalives

Kalives lies about 20 km east of Chania in the Apokoronas area and is on the coast at the entrance of Souda Bay. The town is bound on one side by the sea and the other by low hills.

A long sandy beach runs alongside most of the town, interrupted by a small stream popular with ducks. The beach is popular with families and there are many tavernas and restaurants in the village. However, Kalives is a working - not just a tourist - village, so there is a good selection of shops: bakeries, butchers, ironmongers and so on - even a cooper (barrel maker). Kalives has churches, a post office and squares. The centre is dominated by a fine church with a square in front. Kalives is a popular tourist destination, yet has retained its character.

Beaches

Five minutes drive to the two fabulous beaches at Kalives. Numerous other beaches close by. The beach in Kalives centre is particularly family friendly, being a sheltered bay with gently sloping sand into the sea. Plenty of amenities here with numerous tavernas/shops. The beach just outside of Kalives is larger and more open and has a couple of tavernas.

Activities

Things to see and do include some of the following (we provide a detailed information pack in the villa);

Horse rising, cycling tours, walking in the White Mountains and scuba diving can all be enjoyed locally. There are also come fabulous places to visit including ancient sites, local beauty spots such as Lake Kournas and for those who want to venture a little further afield, the Samaria Gorge or a day trip to Santorini.

We can recommend a good local tour operator who can organise a variety of activities and trips at reasonable rates.

There is a water park for younger guests about 40 minutes' drive from the villa.

Guestbook for Villa K

Taylor Family (June 2011): The villa was great and ideally located enabling us to walk to either of the two local villages, which had everything you needed by way of a local shop, taverna’s and a bar. The weather was also perfect. A lovely and relaxing holiday and the kids loved the pool especially as there are loads of toys under the pool storage to keep them entertained!

Edmonds Family (July 2011): We had a fabulous holiday at Villa K. The villa was beautiful. The pool was lovely and private but the beach was only a 5min drive also. Perfect spot and looking forward to coming back.

Scott Family (August 2011): We had a fantastic family holiday thank you, the villa was super and everything was as we hoped. With a young family the pool at the villa was perfect. We enjoyed long lunches at the raised pool terrace while the kids dipped in and out the pool. In the evening we used the terrace for drinks and walked to the local restaurants. The beach at Kalives is lovely and also very child- friendly.

Miller Family (September 2011): We had a fantastic holiday. We spent all day lazing round the lovely pool in the sunshine having bbq lunches with meat from the butchers in Armeni, highly recommended! Everything you need on your doorstep and the beautiful city of Chania only a 25mins drive away.
