About this location
The Turkish Aegean Coast region
The Bodrum Peninsula boasts a diversity of resorts only minutes away from each other by car or local dolmus and you can have an extremely varied holiday visiting places like Gumusluk, a local picturesque fishing village, Yalikavak a charming resort with lots to do and of course, Bodrum itself with it's pretty whitewashed houses and tumbling bouganvillea.
Bodrum is a lively place with colourful nightlife and plenty of shops in the maze of back streets near the Castle. Bodrum is home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World - the Tomb of King Mausolus. It is the yachting centre of the Aegean and the Marina is full of expensive international yachts and traditional wooden gulets. The area is also convenient for Ephesus and many other sites of historical interest, such as the Temple of Apollo at Didim and the Rock Tombs at Dalyan.
Mandalina Villa is set in a lovely area between Kadikalesi and Turgutreis, approx 18 km from Bodrum.
Opposite the villa is a tree-lined roadway which leads to the sandy beach with a wooden pier only 100 metres away. There is a local shop opposite the site for day to day needs and two friendly local restaurants too.
Walking along the beach into Kadikalesi you pass little cafes and fish restaurants with tables set right on the sand. There are watersports available such as windsurfing and paragliding. The village has local shops, restaurants and a taxi rank.
Walking in the other direction takes you by seafront restaurants and hotels into Turgutreis itself only 25 minutes by foot with little backsteets full of shops, bars and more restaurants to choose from, many along the beachfront with wonderful views of the sunset that this area is famous for. You will find supermarkets, banks and all the essential amenites here. There is a new marina further along the seafront with designer shops and smart cafes and bars with a more sophisticated atmosphere.
Turgutreis is host to the biggest outdoor market on the peninsula on a Saturday and draws people from all over looking for clothes, handbags, jewellery, textiles and rugs, amongst other things, and a farmers market with the largest selection of delicious looking (and tasting!) fresh produce you will find.
Turgutreis has a long sandy beach for relaxing days or take a trip to one of the neighbouring resorts;
Gumusluk, a pretty unspoilt fishing village only 5 minutes away by car or dolmus where you can watch the catch being brought in on the traditional little fishing boats and then try it freshly grilled right on the beach or stroll around the local jewellery and craft stalls and pick up a handmade souvenir.
Enjoy a ride over to Yalikavak with is charming atmosphere and restored windmills. Yalikavak is home to talented artists who show their work in the town alongside recommended bars and restaurants.
Take a trip to Akyarlar and enjoy the wonderful view of Kos from one of the beachfront cafes.
There are many more places to explore and you can get around perfectly well on the local 'dolmus' (small minibus) service very cheaply or hire a car if you prefer although will not find a car necessary to enjoy your holiday here.
We also recommend a boat trip from Turgutreis around the many small islands and beautiful bays.
Day trips can also be taken via ferry from Turgutreis to Kos 40 minutes away and Rhodes.

From May until October the temperature in Kadikalesi will not usually dip below 24C and your can expect over 10 hours of sunshine per day during the six peak season months.

"Lovely villa, excellent location"
Villa lovely, well equipped. Plenty spare blankets/pillows if needed. Nice setting/good balcony and outside sitting areas. Pool nice. Very quiet, 1 of group of 4 villas and only one other occupied while we were there. Only slight negative, difficulty with locking/unlocking some of doors but soon got technique!
Great location, 5-10min walk to main road to catch dolmus which were frequent. Several nice places to visit nearby, eg. Gumusluk (lovely), Yalikavak, Turgutreis. Went to Bitez, 3 Dolmus to get there but easy and well worth it. Lovely beach, quietish in October.
Owners greeted us on arrival and saw us off when we left, excellent transfer service which Jo had booked for us. Deposit returned swiftly. Would wholly recommend both the villa and the area.

"Lovely Villa - Close to the beach"

We have stayed at this lovely villa for the last 2 years and absolutely love it. It's really beautiful.....bright and cheerful with modern fittings that still have a Turkish flavour. It's in pretty gardens and overlooks the pool which make sit feels like you have your very own facilities. It's a quick stroll to the sea and only a pleasant 20 minute walk from the seaside town of Turgutreis with its many restaurants and bars (although there are some wonderful traditional eateries just yards away). The boat trips are always a must-do while we're there.
A previous reviewer mentioned nearby building work......must have been a few years ago as we've not had any problems.
We will definitely be going back........

"Ask about the building work going on!"
We stayed here April 2011. The villa is nice and the gardens also. But for us the holiday was blighted by the building works.
Yes we were told that there was some building work going on 4 weeks (16/03/11) before we arrived but by the time we got there it had moved nearer to our villa. The couple on site who manage things are nice but we felt that we were not given the full story about the building works before we left the UK.
The fact that noisy water pumps were left running all night long was never mentioned!
We had dust and convoys of lorries all day long. Working late into the evening and early morning.
What was supposed to be a relaxing holiday by the pool enjoying peace and quiet turned into having to go out nearly every day to get away from the building work, trucks and noise.
Be warned about Turkish building work!!
***ALWAYS ASK ABOUT BUILDING WORK***
Also the map/satillite view still does not show the building work which is located diagonally across the 4 way junction where the villa is located.
I will finish on a plus note. the walk along the front to Turg is very nice and does not take long.
people in the town a also so nice especially if you are spending!! We made the holiday good ourselves but it would have been great without the bloody builders!!!
Please note that all building work nearby the villa was completed in late 2011.
