The Edinburgh region
The Old Mill is easily accessible for train and air and being close to the Edinburgh Ring Road, it's the perfect base to explore all the attractions that Scotland's capital and the surrounding countryside has to offer! Not to mention the Highlands to the North, over the Forth Road Bridge to Fife and Perthshire or south to the rural Borders.
For all the action in the city centre and at at the Edinburgh Festival - we are perfectly located close to the ring road, M8 motorway to Glasgow and close to Edinburgh city centre
The charming village of Juniper Green is a stone's throw away (300m along a wooded path) where there are pubs, restaurants, local shops and an excellent deli. Walking further along this well surfaced, picturesque path will take you right into the heart of Edinburgh where you can explore this magnificent capital. We are on the edge of the Pentland hills and so there are wonderful walks for all levels - stretching out from the garden gate. Nearby there are a number of excellent golf courses and fishing opportunities literally on the doorstep!

"Unique, historical with a modern twist"
A picturesque setting with all mod cons. Owners couldn't have been more hospitable and welcoming. A little way out of centre but a very easy drive and a regular bus service.

"Great stay at the Old Mill House"
Have just returned from a 4 night stay at this little gem of a holiday rental. The accommodation was immaculate and a real home from home. Everything necessary was provided for us and the dog(and more indeed). Welcome pack of milk, bread, OJ, cake, eggs etc was much appreciated. Location was great for us being near Heriot Watt uni; the city centre (an easy drive or bus ride away); the waterway of Leith walkway (literally on the doorstep) and the Pentland hills close by for great walking.
Many thanks for your kind review. Delighted you enjoyed your weekend. Please come and visit again

"A perfect holiday home and wonderful owners!"
What a beautiful cottage, immaculately renovated and perfectly located directly on the river with lovely access to walks and running. Jennifer and Mark could not have been better hosts - leaving lots of lovely 'goodies' in the house for us including home made cakes. As I was travelling with my elderly mum, who has some difficulties, they even offered to do some shopping for me, and gave great tips as to where I may be able to visit with her. Would highly recommend.
Delighted you had a great stay with your Mum - please come back again!

"Lovely hidden gem of a holiday cottage."
We had a lovely 4 night stay in this cottage when we took our son up to Edinburgh to enrol at Heriot Watt University. Excellent location close to Heriot Watt and on a bus route directly into Princes Street. I recommend avoiding driving into Edinburgh City centre. Jennifer and Mark were very welcoming, as was their dog Poppy who is very friendly. Awaiting us on arrival was a generous welcome pack, including artisan bread, butter, jams, eggs, coffee, tea, milk, juice etc and a delicious lemon drizzle cake. The driveway is a very steep hill down to the cottage, so would be difficult to tackle wearing heels, but the advantage is that you are well away from the main road and right by Leith Water so the feeling is one of seclusion where you only hear the sound of the water rushing by. The cottage itself is very nicely decorated with everything that you need when staying in a holiday home away from home. Our kids are teenagers, but had they been younger I am certain they would have made use of the fishing nets and wellies that Jennifer and Mark so thoughtfully provide. We will definitely be back.
Thanks for the kind review -I am really pleased you enjoyed it and that you were so close to Heriot Watt for your son. Do visit again!

"Beautiful accommodation in a stunning setting, with first class hospitality"
Beautiful accommodation in a stunning setting, with first class hospitality. Jennifer and Mark have created a little gem close to Edinburgh, but far enough away to feel rural. The river setting is stunning, with lots of wildlife and the hypnotising sound of running water. We hope to return one day.
Delighted you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again soon. Many thanks for the lovely review

"Our perfect holiday hideaway ...."
This beautiful and tastefully decorated cottage with all mod cons is situated by the Water of Leith. Jen and Mike, the owners provided an excellent welcome pack including home baked cake, a couple of drams of an excellent malt whiskey and goodies for our dog. We immediately felt at home. We were blessed with glorious weather allowing us to take advantage of the enclosed outdoor space which included sun trapped patio area with BBQ and patio seating, we also tried our hand at fishing. Dog friendly walks were at the end of the garden - couldn't have been better. We felt relaxed and refreshed after our time at The Old Mill and were very sad to say goodbye. Jen and Mike couldn't have done more and made our stay special.... Hope to return soon.
thanks for your kind comments and delighted you enjoyed your stay. Look forward to seeing you again

"Blown away by the beautiful scenery and history of the bulding."
We came with overseas visitors to show them something different. We succeeded! Beautiful location by the river. Superbly restored Old Mill finished to a very high standard. Little touches - welcome bread and mild and snacks to get you started. Very relaxing time - we really didn't want to leave and bother with sight-seeing. Only one thing to watch - a narrow steep drive down to the Mill. And rustic steps down to the door. All adds to the charm - but you need to be careful if you are older. A superb stay - the owners are very eager to please and can sort any problem out. We are already contemplating a return visit.
Thanks for the review and delighted you enjoyed your stay. Look forward to seeing you again

"tranquility on the edge of the city"
Stayed 4 nights visiting daughter at university. Lovely to collect her and have such quality home from home comforts ( better in fact ! ) to enjoy. Facilities excellent and location perfect - river outside garden, local shops/restaurants/pubs, walks from the door, public transport from door, easy drive into edinburgh centre. I dont usually ever stay in a place a second time but this would be the exception ! Fresh juice, brownies, home made bread , wine, whisky , even a dog welcome pack - were just a few of the wecoming treats awaiting us when we arrived. How lovely. ALL the guest comments in the visitors book were just as positive .
Delighted you enjoyed your stay with us - and many thanks for your kind comments

"Secluded accommodation in picturesque setting"
We were enchanted with The Old Mill from the moment we arrived. The accommodation was renovated to a high standard of comfort and convenience, with quirky and tasteful décor. Our hosts, Mark and Jen could not have been more considerate to our needs, providing us with a very generous and imaginative 'welcome pack'. Relaxing in the garden, chatting while enjoying a drink, and watching the Dippers and Grey Wagtail on the tumbling Water of Leith, was magical, - all this, within such easy reach of the City. We would not hesitate to recommend this lovely cottage.
Thanks for your lovely review and I really hope you come back to stay again
