Our farmhouse in the Loire Valley means a lot to us. I've designed it to suit my tastes and ideas and keeping the 16th Century features, quirks and charms. It's nice to have somewhere to get away from the stresses of the working week and just take a breather.

But as well as being an oasis of peace, our home is also a place for friendly get-togethers – we often have close friends here.

The Farmhouse is set in acres of woodland in a tiny hamlet of around 100 people. Its tranquil location is home to wild deer, boar, red kites and is a haven for all manner of wildlife.

The farmhouse is well appointed, enjoy dinner served with elegant simplicity on white porcelain and crystal at the birch wood dining table, (seats 12).

The house is accessorised in natural tones, sumptuous cushions, Laura Ashley accents, sheepskin rugs, craftsman made willow baskets. Contemporary furniture in white and cream, marble bowls and artisan made pieces.

Bedrooms are cool in summer, have quality super king sized beds, (or combination of singles), with huge duvets. The large shower room has a generous multi head jet shower and seat, there is also a washing machine and an outside drying area. The grenier bedroom is en suite.

Outdoors, we have 4 acres of meadow with orchards of plum, peach, cherry, pear, apple, quince and grape vines for you to enjoy. Adjoining vast forests are home to deer, wild boar and a fantastic variety of birds. The forests are wonderful for cycling, walking, and don't miss the opportunity of foraging for a good variety of mushrooms and collecting chestnuts in Autumn.

We have an inground heated pool which was built spring 2013, 24'x12' approx. It has a telescopic enclosure and it is pleasant to swim under on rare inclement days!

Peaceful and tranquil; we are situated within the boundaries of the Parc Naturel, with all the splendours of the Loire Valley close by, the area is designated a Unesco World Heritage site; Magnificent Chateaux, ancient villages, Cloche Tors (twisted spires) and vineyards are all within easy access. A perfect place to stay.

We have one of France's top 5 golf courses right on the doorstep, ranked amongst the top 100 of Europe, Golf Club de Baugé - Pontigné, a beautiful course you will really enjoy. The course is a par 72 over a distance of 6287 metres, challenging for the keenest golfer, friendly enough for the rest of us. Men and women require a Handicap of 35.

Back at the house, enjoy eating al fresco, under the shade of the sun sails, cooking from the gas barbeque, with picnic ware supplied, enjoy breakfast or an evening supper in the courtyard, serenaded by cicadas. Bright stars fill the vast night skies.

The Loire Valley region

Famous for its micro climate, the Loire Valley is known as the Garden of France for good reason. The hunting grounds of French Royalty through the centuries, providing good eating, good hunting and good weather, we don't experience those long cold winters of other regions!

Valle des Rois

Many of the chateaux are open all year. Saumur: 12th Century, overlooks the Loire. Chinon: Henry VII and Joan of Arc, Plantagenet Kings. Fontevraud Abbey: site of the graves of King Henry II of England, his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, their son King Richard I of England. Chenonceau: The château sits astride the river. Villandry: with its magnificent gardens and terraces. Ussé: the inspiration for the story of Sleeping Beauty. Montsoreau: 14th Century, Alexandre Dumas' La Dame de Montsoreau is based upon the amorous escapades of two ladies who occupied the castle during the reign of King Henry III.

We are in the perfect place for accessing the many manoirs, gardens, forests (cycling, walking and picnic), lakes, (swimming, canoeing, fishing) rivers, vineyards and chateaux of the Loire Valley.

You can take the opportunity to taste the specialities of the region, which is known, for very good reason, as 'the garden of France'.

Visit local farms or food markets and fairs which take place throughout the year. Cooked pork meats 'rillons' and 'rillettes' are wonderful with a fresh crispy baguette. Buy fresh, local produce in the supermarkets in season and at the roadside or local markets

There is a wide variety of locally grown fruit and mushrooms (there is even a living mushroom museum) and in the Autumn the forests are a foragers feast with fungi and chestnuts. The pharmacy in Bauge will identify those edible and poisonous if you are not an expert.

The region is famous for its goat's cheese, we have a neighbour, in the forest who is a cheesemaker, you can visit every day to see how the cheese is made and of course spend time with the goats??

Fouace a local speciality, it is a stuffed bread found in markets and some village shops, and of course there is nougat from Tours.

The climate is perfect for a range of red, white and rosé wines like Chablis, Sancerre, Vouvray, Cheverny, Touraine, Amboise, Valencay, Chinon, Bourgeuil and Saint-Nicholas. There is fizz from Saumur and fabulous desert wines like Chaume all readily available at vineyards and supermarkets.

Take a day to explore Saumur on the banks of the Loire; The Cadre Noir fabulous horsemanship, Musee des Blindes - a museum of tanks also by the chateau in Saumur.
