Further details indoors

The two double bedrooms at the front of the house are large beautiful rooms with views of the garden and across the fields of vines that surround the house. Very comfortable with high quality bedding, both bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms.

The third double is light and spacious and boasts a contemporary four poster bed, high quality bedding, natural stone walls, chandelier and original art work. A delightful private bathroom with bath and shower and far reaching views over the Dordogne valley services the third double bedroom and adjacent twin room, both bedrooms having their own entrance. These bedrooms are ideal for parents with younger children. The twin room is, again, very comfortable, with views across the Dordogne valley and has a door that leads out onto the garden.

The second twin room is on the mezzanine floor. Great for older children, it's sufficiently far enough from parents enjoying early evening aperitifs and will allow for acceptable levels of giggling and naughtiness. The mezzanine has its own private 6m x 4m sun terrace and its own private bathroom below.

The large living area with herringbone parquet floor is the place for a game of chess or tiddly winks, a quiet read or maybe a game of battleships. A wall mounted flat screen allows you to access British and French television or to choose from the many films on D.V.D.

Further details outdoors

Parents can rest assured that their children will be safe and happy within a well equipped and enclosed garden. Three outdoor terraces give lots of opportunity for relaxing, enjoying nature and watching the sun rise and set.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

A love affair with France has been long and enduring. Her natural beauty, finesse, glorious climate, fertile land and rich and varied produce have made her desirable and desired throughout the centuries.

Forces of nature and conquest have carved an area rich in culture and diversity. Lascaux and surrounding caves house the largest art collection of pre-historic paintings in the world. Fortified medieval towns form the back drop to weekly markets. Vines cultivated, most famously in St Emilion, Pomerol, the Medoc for Margeaux and Graves for Sauternes, produce some of the finest bottles of wine money can buy.

And Bordeaux, an incredibly elegant and vibrant city awarded world heritage status for its dramatic sweeping classical and neo-classical waterfront is a haven of art galleries, parks, museums, great restaurants and shopping galore!

Juillac

The 'Gourmand village' of Juillac, set on high ground overlooking the magnificent Dordogne valley, has its own award winning restaurant. Rows and rows of immaculate vines produce highly acclaimed wines and many vineyards 'open doors' throughout the year inviting visits and tastings.

Concerts, antique fairs, art expositions and night-markets and many other events run throughout the summer months in Juillac and neighbouring villages.

For those who enjoy exploring, cycling, local walks and canoeing are a great way to get to know the area and appreciate the tranquillity and outstanding beauty. Bring binoculars for great birdwatching!

"A beautiful home from home"

Three young children (boys, 11 and 9, girl, 4), two grandparents and mum & dad (ages not to be disclosed) loved Villa Edith. Deanna and her family looked after us wonderfully - always there and responsive when we needed anything, or were even more clueless than usual.

The house is beautifully decorated and is really well appointed (modern equipment and functionality where it is needed, charming rustic French where it is wanted). The swimming pool was an oasis in the baking heat of a Dordogne summer (take care of alarm system which faintly senile adults tend to forget).

We had a fantastic holiday, completely relaxed (meaning nothing went wrong which is unusual) and deeply comfortable. The one thing I would have changed? Air con (or mobile cooler systems) in the bedrooms.

We will be back soon.

Fans have now been arranged in all bedrooms for the comfort of guests on those long and sultry summer evenings.

"A love letter to Villa Edith"

Villa Edith,

I must admit I was sceptical as to how you would accomodate a group of 12 young professionals. How dare I? You stole my heart from the moment I saw your large, renovated frame. The simple drive from Bordeaux was instantly forgotten when we reached you. Your rustic yet modern delight, the acres of peaceful vineyards surrounding you like sea to a desert island.

Edith, they say it's the inside that counts and I truly believe that. When I entered your doors I wandered around for many moments, wide-eyed and excited. How have I found myself somewhere so beautiful inside and out, so comforting, so reasonably priced? After visiting all of your bedrooms I went into your kitchen – a tremendously welcoming place. Little did I know my laziness meant I would be spending a small amount of time here.

All of this splendidness would have been enough for me Edith. You had me at chateaux. But then I was passed a refreshing beverage and pointed towards your garden. The sun was shining, giving your pool the mirage-like appearance of molten emeralds. I took a seat next to it and leaned back. To my surprise the seat flew back and I spilt my beverage. Don't worry dear Edith, I'll forgive you. After a moment of practice I was a master recliner. From the seat at the edge of the pool, I took it all in, soaked it all up and wished I had my sunglasses. You are so much more than I thought you would be.

After one of the best weeks of my life I found myself doing the same thing, sitting poolside but this time with sufficient eye protection. I was even more in love with you. Edith you are as close to perfection as a villa could be and I hope to see you again one day. I don't know how I will find anything else like you.

Yours longingly,

Lewis

A poetic response to a liaison with this charming house, glad you enjoyed your summer romance!
