Home description
This granite former farmhouse is located in the small hamlet of Le Tremblay, a cluster of old stone houses attractively situated on the edge of a wooded valley. The house is old - certain features date from the medieval era, and has been sensitively restored. The farmhouse has two self contained units, Les Alouettes sleeping up to 7 , and Les Hirondelles, sleeping up to 10. There is a lawned front garden with trampoline, badminton net and above ground swimming pool. A public footpath leads from the house through woodland and peaceful countryside , and we accept well behaved dogs. A shaded grassed garden is to the rear of the property. The house is ideal for large family groups seeking peace and tranquillity , but within easy reach of the coast ( 30 minutes) , Dinan ( 20 minutes) and Saint Malo ( 35 minutes)

The Brittany / Cotes-D'Armor region
Brittany is an area of breathtaking natural beauty. The long coastline is a seemingly endless succession of rocky headlands, wild cliffs, island studded bays and beautiful sandy beaches. Inland is equally attractive. Fairytale castles, historic towns and ancient megaliths are sprinkled through the gentle hilly countryside. A wide variety of interests are well catered for , including golf, fishing, all sorts of watersports, hiking and cycling. The region is easily accessible from the UK with ferry ports at St Malo , Roscoff , Caen or Cherbourg and with Ryanair providing very low cost flights to Dinard.
Jugon les Lacs / Megrit area
About a mile away from the house is the typical French village of Megrit with church, bakery, bar and shop. There are several colour coded signposted circuits for walkers leading from Megrit and the area is ideal for cycling. Riding stables can be found on the edge of the attractive village of Plelan Le Petit which has a bank,Post Office and supermarket.
Jugon Les Lacs is a pretty town only a couple of miles away from our house at Megrit, standing at the end of a lake where sailing boats, canoes and pedaloes can be hired for use on the lake. You can also hire bikes here and there is a good heated outdoor swimming pool. After all that , you can go and have a drink in one of the cafes or have a meal in one of the good restaurants to be found in the town.
A little further afield are the many sandy beaches and rugged headlands of the Cote D'Emeraude , the family seaside towns of St Jacut, Dinard and Lancieux are all found on this coast , which is about a 35 minute drive.
Inland is La Hunaudaye , a beautiful moated castle partly ruined but retaining its medieval grandeur. Close by is the Ferme D'Antan a reconstructed Breton farm offering a fascinating glimpse back in time and a chance to experience authentic Breton farm life.
Also within easy driving distance is St Malo, a jewel of a town which has risen again after being all but destroyed during the last war. The old town is surrounded by ramparts which offer stunning views out over the sea and gives access to several delightful sandy beaches.
Close by is Dinard , one of the oldest tourist resorts in France. It offers elegant architecture, fine restaurants, a beautiful long sandy beach and a casino. A little further away is Mont St Michel ,a renowned world heritage site, standing proudly on a rocky island which is cut off from the mainland by the fast flowing tides. The church and monastery are truly unique and repay a visit early in the day to avoid the crowds.
Mont St. Michel is a most enjoyable day trip , about 45 minutes away, as are the towns of Fougeres, Vitre and Rennes. Paris can be reached by high-speed train link from the station at Lamballe in about 3 hours.
There is a good number of excellent golf courses a short drive away from the gite, including Dinard (founded in 1887), St Malo, Pen Guen (St Cast) and Sables D'Or at Cap Frehel. Perhaps the best course is located at Pléneuf Val André, which should be on every golfers 'must play' list. As the language can sometimes be a barrier , we can liaise with the course on your behalf and book tee times for you so your golf is all arranged before you arrive.

Hi Jeremy - just e mailing to say that we had such a lovely time in your absolutely gorgeous house - a true home from home! We loved it so much that we really didn't want to leave! I think we were lucky with the weather considering how bad it has been in the UK. Thank you again. Best Wishes Sharon, Mike, Poppy and Dylan (July 2007).
'Thank you for a lovely stay yet again - we have thoroughly enjoyed the gite' (JW, August 2007).
