Home description
Le Chai is your ideal holiday getaway. Set on two floors, it has a kitchen/living/dining room downstairs and one bedroom with a double bed (with room for a cot) and en-suite shower room upstairs.
There is a dining area inside, and in front of the gîte, a delightful terrace in the sunniest corner of our sheltered courtyard, furnished with comfortable wooden chairs and table, and a stone barbecue for alfresco cooking. This area looks out south with open views of the local countryside.
The views of the surrounding countryside are breathtaking, including our over 2 acres of grounds for you to enjoy, with fruit and nut trees, bordered on one side by fields of sunflowers, and on another by an oak wood.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region
The Poitou-Charentes region is recognised as the second sunniest part of France, and is an area of beautiful cities, towns and villages, all set in some of the most stunning countryside that France has to offer. It is a strong wine- and Cognac-producing area, which means that the area is full of beautiful valleys of vineyards, surrounded by fields of sunflowers.
Located between La Rochelle and Bordeaux, close to Cognac, Saintes and Angouleme, and only 45 minutes from the glorious sandy beaches of the Atlantic coastline, we are ideally located for anyone who wants to explore this unspoiled area.
Jonzac area
Jonzac (15 kms) is a stunning medieval town, with an imposing 15th-century château. In addition it has thermal baths offering extensive treatments, and a swimming complex with a water slide, tropical lagoon, wave pool, bubble spas and saunas, indoor and outdoor pools, as well as offering various beauty and relaxation treatments.
Montendre (10 kms) is a typical Charentais market town. With its weekly general market, and night markets weekly in July and August, it gives a taste of authentic French life. Overlooking the town there are 2 medieval towers, remains of Montendre castle and the view over the town and its surroundings is wonderful.

Further details indoors: Downstairs, the gîte has a modern, well-equipped kitchen with separate oven and hob, dishwasher (who wants to wash up on holiday!), washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. The large downstairs area is open plan, with a comfortable sofa facing the TV, offering the main English channels, BBC, ITV, Channels 4 & 5, etc.
The gîte is equipped with books of all kinds, and lots of information on the local area and attractions, for you to browse at your leisure and plan your holiday.
Further details outdoors: Our large pool area contains our octagonal 10 x 5 metre pool and sun loungers, tables, chairs, and a hammock, so that you can relax any way you like. The pool is in full sun for much of the day so you'll also find lots of pleasant shady areas to keep cool.
The pool areas has a small bar area with a fridge so that you can keep your soft drinks cool all day, and your wine and beer cool in the evenings should you wish to.
