Farmhouse | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Chez Mamie is part of our recently restored 200-year-old farmhouse at the edge of a sleepy village, and retains much of its original character. Traditional in style, you will love the feel of the exposed beams and light and airy rooms. It is perfect for a long summer holiday, or a mid-week or weekend break, especially from May to October, when you can enjoy the delights of our heated swimming pool, even on cooler days. It's ideal for a relaxing break, or as a base to discover the surrounding area.
Chez Mamie has one family bedroom, with double bed, bunks and room for a cot and en-suite shower room upstairs, with the comfortable living/dining/kitchen area downstairs. Designed with both couples and young families in mind, Chez Mamie is ideal for anyone who would stay in a family room in a hotel, but who prefers the convenience of self-catering.
Your private rear garden has a deck, barbeque and grassed area, so that there's room outside to relax, or for children to play close by, with views onto the pool area and the rest of our garden.

An important part of your gîte holiday is relaxation & fun, and our 600 square-metre pool area contains our octagonal 10 x 5 metre pool, heated to around 30 degrees from April to the end of October, and plenty of sun loungers, tables, and chairs, so that you can relax any way you like. The pool is in full sun for much of the day so you'll also find pleasant shady areas to keep cool. The view from the pool area is across our garden to the surrounding farmland, and rolling hills, without another house in sight.
The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region
There are so many museums, châteaux, zoos, historic buildings and places of interest in this area of France, that you’ll have lots to choose from during your visit. Our local town has a stunning medieval castle with guided tours in English, as well as a swimming complex with a water slide, tropical lagoon, wave pool, bubble spas and saunas, indoor and outdoor pools.
Within an hour’s drive you can visit the beautiful cities of Saintes, Cognac, Angoulême and Bordeaux and the pretty seaside resort of Royan. The caves at Meschers are fascinating and the Gironde estuary offers a wealth of things to do and see.
The area is crisscrossed with rivers, and there are numerous places where you can take boat cruises, hire your own boat, or simply paddle along in a canoe. The views from the river banks can be breathtaking, and it’s a highly recommended way to see more of the places you visit.
A little further afield, you can visit La Rochelle, Rochefort, St Emilion, a UNESCO world heritage site, or even Bergerac in the Dordogne region.
Spend a day at the Aqualand water park in Bordeaux with its slides and rides, or visit the Dune du Pyla close by, which is the largest sand dune in Europe and affords stunning views of the surrounding coastline.
This area is renowned for its châteaux and architecture, and a simple stroll through many of the area’s smaller towns will reveal unexpected delights. Whatever you enjoy doing on holiday, Charente Maritime will offer you lots of choice.
The local market town of Jonzac, has a full range of shops, banks and supermarkets. There is an excellent choice of restaurants, within 15 minutes drive. Between them, the local towns of Jonzac and Montendre hold fresh markets four days a week, and in fact there is a market somewhere near us, every day of the week - including Sundays.
Jonzac is a stunning medieval town, with an imposing 15th-century château with guided tours in English. In addition it has thermal baths whose treatments are extensive, and whose waters have been recognised for their effectiveness in treating various complaints. The local swimming complex has a water slide, tropical lagoon, wavepool, bubble spas and saunas.
The views of the countryside surrounding our land are breathtaking, including our over 2 acres of grounds for you to enjoy, with fruit and nut trees, bordered on one side by an oak wood, and on other sides by agricultural fields.
Because we’re located on the edge of a village, our only passing traffic is the occasional tractor on the way to the farmland around us.
Typical crops in the area include sunflowers, which are beautiful in July, and grapevines and sweetcorn which give the area a lush greenness even through the long hot summers.
Our rural location means that you’ll need your own transport—the nearest boulangerie is 3 miles away, and we have no shops in our local hamlet. However, we have the delightful towns of Montendre and Jonzac only 10 & 15 minutes drive away, with an array of small boutiques, restaurants and supermarkets to cater for your every need.
The village of Vibrac is very quiet - although it does boast its own heated outdoor pool which is open in July and August. It has a larger pool and also a shallow splash pool for the little ones, and is very popular with the locals, although you may find it difficult to tear yourselves away from our lovely pool on site !
