St. John's

The capital of Antigua is a bustling city with an impressive Anglican cathedral. Originally constructed in 1683, it has since been rebuilt and survived the rigours of nature. The Friday and Saturday markets are certainly worth a visit and offer a wide range of tropical food and drink and local folk crafts.

English Harbour

Headquarters to the British Navy fleet of the Leeward Islands, English Harbourtown was a strategically important port and known as the 'gateway to the Caribbean'. Horatio Nelson's arrival in 1784 heralded the development of the area, in particular Nelson's Dockyard, which has been completely restored and is the only surviving example of a Georgian dockyard in the world.

Shirley Heights

Providing breath-taking views overlooking English Harbour, Shirley Heights is today the remains of a garrison named after General Shirley, Governor of the Leeward Islands in the late 1700s. On a Sunday afternoon, enjoy the view with a rum punch and a barbeque, accompanied by a steel band.Sea View Farm VillageAntiguan pottery is still being made in the traditional way today at Sea View Farm. Clay is brought from the local pits and fashioned into pots which are sold across the Island.

Barbuda

For a truly relaxing time, take a trip to Antigua's sister Island, Barbuda. The Island has only 1,500 inhabitants but is home to over 5,000 frigate birds. Beach combing is a favourite activity here with beaches all around the coastline. Barbuda is also known for its many shipwrecks which can be accessed by experienced divers with a local guide.

"Everything we wanted"

This villa was everything we hoped for. It was spacious for 4 of us (2 couples) with 2 upstairs bedrooms and a third downstairs that didn't even get used. It also has 3 bathrooms, 2 ensuites connected to the bedrooms upstairs and another on the main floor that was very handy. The main bedroom upstairs has a nice deck that gives a picturesque view to wake up to each morning. Both upstairs bedrooms had large closets with hangers and dressers for all of your clothes.

The villa was clean, comfy and airy. The private deck and pool outside are the highlight of this villa, perfect for cooling off and lounging around in the sun! We felt spoiled when we looked around at all the other villas with small outside areas. We appreciated having a safe to keep our valuables locked away. Area felt very safe and everyone was super friendly!

Loved having the BBQ for cooking dinners and the kitchen had everything we needed except a blender.

My only disappointment was forgetting to write in the guest book before we left!

A few shout-outs…
To Ben (villa owner) who answered countless questions we had before the trip and helped to make our stay wonderful.
To Bart (villa manager) who was available to us anytime we needed and went beyond to help us out a few times.
To the cleaner (I believe her name was Anita) who was very thorough when cleaning the villa and friendly.
To Denroy, who was a chef that we mistook for the driver, yet he still had no problem driving us all over the island on more than one occasion! Denroy - if you are reading this we would've had you over to cook had we known!

All in all we had a wonderful vacation and I would recommend this villa to anyone looking to stay in Jolly Harbour. I really hope we make it back for a vacation again one day!

ABOUT JOLLY HARBOUR

First I would like to say that Jolly Harbour is a great area to stay in, we thoroughly enjoyed it as a home base. It has all the amenities that you need and I will comment on some first hand experience of each below:

Supermarket - very handy, located in the main end of Jolly Harbour, many brands we were familiar with and an area to buy liquor as well.

Pharmacy - probably not what you are used to but has basic things that we ended up needing such as bug spray, sunscreen and advil.

Restaurants - a big variety in the area. Castaways on Jolly Beach is great for a drink and watching the sun set. Al Porto had delicious stone grilled pizzas. Heard great things about the food on D•Boat as well. Sugar Ridge up the road from Jolly Harbour was nice although fancy and expensive.

Beach - Jolly Beach in the south end was one of the best beaches we saw on our trip. There is also a north beach 5 minute walk away from the villa that is a sea shellers dream.

Getting Around - from the north area I would recommend renting a golf cart as the walk is about 45 minutes from the villa to the main end. We left Jolly Harbour area a few times and negotiated a price with the driver before hand, it was always reasonable and the driver would pick us up promptly when called (keep in mind this was actuality the chef that we mistook for the driver :)

Hope this review helps others make the decision to stay at Harbour Lights Villa and to visit Jolly Harbour in Antigua - you won't be disappointed!

"Fantastic trip in the idyliic Antigua Harbour Lights!"

We got back a couple of weeks ago after having a fantastic time staying at Antigua Harbour Lights.

We loved the homely villa, the sunshine and the island atmosphere. The pool and buggy were definitely major pluses!!

We managed to see and do most of the things that we wanted on the island with everything easily accessible from Jolly Harbour.

Thank you so much for letting us use your villa and Bart, the villa manager, was great in helping us with anything we needed.

The booking process was made very easy and informative.
We can't wait to return....!!

Many Thanks,
Hannah & Jason

"A private and peaceful experience"

Particularly excellent getaway for those whose prime purpose is to relax, yet with sufficient restaurants/bars/beaches within walking distance. We tend to stock up on arrival at the excellent local supermarket and spend our days relaxing by the pool. In the evening, sun downers and the BBQ make this an excellent spot to lie back and look at the beautiful starry sky uncluttered by light pollution. There are also lively restaurants and bars within the complex (circa 1 kilometre stroll) although of particular note is the beautiful North Beach. Less than 5 minutes walk, we tended to have it all to ourselves when we walked (5 minutes) clutching nothing more than a towel and bottle of cold fizz.
