The Antigua region

Antigua has 365 beaches - they say one for every day of the year. The temperature is pretty constant year round but the best weather in Antigua is during December to May when there is less humidity and heat and you can enjoy the trade winds. This, of course, is also high season.

The temperatures do not vary much throughout the year, ranging from 24 – 30 degrees, so any time of the year is a good time, but has a higher humidity and the number of showers tend to be higher during the Summer months. The advantage of a visit in Summer is that it is low season and prices tend to be cheaper.

You may often see a forecast of rain in Antigua, but these are usually short sharp showers lasting just a few minutes, and is often a welcome cool off.

There are plenty of things to see and do in Antigua. Take a boat trip around the island (we have negotiated a US$25 per person discount with Wadadli Cats), visit Nelsons Dockyard and English Harbour, or party on a Sunday up at Shirley Heights to watch the sun go down. We include a comprehensive guide in the Villa.

Jolly Harbour

Jolly Harbour is a secure gated community that houses a marina with Super Yacht docks. Watch the boats come in and out with a cocktail at The Crow's Nest. The restaurants will usually have a "specials" night with live music and menu offers.

Golf enthusiasts can enjoy reasonable rates at Jolly Harbour Golf course. Check directly with the golf course for opening times and latest rates.

There are 3 ATMs in the centre, a well-stocked Epicurean supermarket, car hire companies, beautician and more.

"Villa Sundowner – our experience with 4 + 2"

We hired the house from March 16, 2014 to March 30, 2014 to live in with 4 adults and 2 children of 4 and 1 age. In total our vacation was a great time and we were happy to have found this house. We w… More

Hello Dirk

We are pleased you had a great time in Antigua and at Villa Sundowner. We are coming out in a couple of weeks and will investigate the damp in the cupboard under the sink - thanks for raising the issue.

We provide 4 bikes free of charge for guest use - although most of our guests like to hire a golf cart. The sea air is not very kind to metal in Antigua and it is this which causes the bikes to need some maintenance every now and then. We will take a look at them too.

We hope to welcome you back again next year and wishing you a wonderful Summer 2014.

Pamela and Mike.

"Amazing Antigua"

Stayed at this villa last week. It catered for our needs and although the supermarket was a good 15 minute walk, it was conveniently far enough away for privacy. The villa was bright and spacious with… More

So pleased you enjoyed your stay at Villa Sundowner. Antigua is indeed amazing and we love it too. We have even seen a dolphin in the water off the deck.

Good advice regarding a buggy and for those who don't want to hire a buggy or walk we do provide 4 bicycles for guest use free of charge. Lovely flat land in Jolly Harbour and a beautiful breeze when cycling.

Hopefully we will welcome you back to Villa Sundowner later in the year. Thank you for your lovely review!

"Comfortable, nice furniture, good value"

This was our second stay in a villa and we loved it. The use of the bikes was appreciated and enjoyed. We much prefer this style to vacationing in a resort.

So glad you enjoyed your stay. We love the bikes too, great for enjoying the views and cooling trade winds.

"Christmas Holiday"

My wife, 25 year old son, and I enjoyed a most comfortable and relaxing fortnight at Villa Sundowner over Christmas. The villa was very comfortable and had all the amenities. For us, the only downside was that we found the mattress on the double bed did not suit us and our backs ached by the morning. To be fair, that could just be us, though I don't usually have that problem.
However, I don't wish to detract from an overall lovely stay. Having bicycles and racquets available was a very nice touch, and the villa was well situated, being close to two exquisite beaches, the golf course, restaurants and supermarkets.
Villa Sunset was a pleasure to "go home to" during the fortnight we were there.
We were well looked after by Typically Tropical Villas, who had a taxi waiting for us at the airport and who saw us into the villa with a useful briefing. When the taxi went to the wrong address for the return to the airport, Margot "rescued" it and personally made sure it got to us in plenty of time.
We would certainly stay there again.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Villa Sundowner, and that our local agent looked after you so well. Firm or soft, mattresses are very much a personal preference. The bed is fairly new and we find it more comfy than our one at home, but appreciate that personal preferences are different to ours.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon and wishing you a happy and healthy 2014.

"We would love to return some day to this villa."

The villa was just as we had expected. We had rented a car and visited all the lovely restaurants on the Island. Lots of them on beaches. Wonderful holiday. Amy and margot were very helpful and friendly.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. It is a beautiful island and we look forward to welcoming you back again.

"Great Vacation Getaway!"

My wife and I along with another couple stayed at the Villa Sundowner from April 5-12. In our search we were looking for beaches, attractions and safety. This place has it all and more.

The booking process was simple and easy. Shuna welcomes you and provides a brief tour of the villa. Then you are free to enjoy the rest of your stay.

The description and website are exactly what you get. It met all of our expectations and more while we stayed there. The Wi-Fi was a great addition, although we like to leave electronics off. Everything was well kept and we didn't have any problems.

A few things I would recommend to incoming guests. Rent a golf buggy ($20/day) to get around. Riding the bikes everywhere in that heat would be exhausting. The golf buggy allowed you to explore all of Jolly Harbour.

Take the bus into St. John's one day for about $1.50 US each way. Very affordable. We went to the market and visited the shops. A nice day trip to see more of Antigua.

I also recommend renting a car ($75 US) and visiting Nelson's Dockyard, Shirley Heights, Betty's Hope, Devils Bridge and a Half Moon Bay. These are great attractions and I recommend checking them out. Eli's Eco-Tour was another excursion we went on and it was a blast.

Most nights we went out to the Crows Nest in Jolly Harbour for live music and drinks, while also trying Melinis, Castaways and Al Porto for the 2 for 1 pizzas.

If you are into fishing, I brought a travel fishing pole and caught about 15 fish from the porch. We caught Snapper, Jacks, Bullseye Puffer Fish and a crab! Another perk of being right on the water.

Overall, we had a great experience at the Villa Sundowner! If you are looking to get away from the crowds and enjoy a nice relaxing location, this is the place to be!
