Jimena de la Frontera area
Jimena is quite a large 'Spanish White Town' built on a hillside, so you need to be faily fit if you are going to walk up and down narrow hillside roads. But after a few days it seems to get easier, or you seem to get fitter!
Jimena is a very popular place for bird watching and walking and rambling. Surrounded by the larges national park in Europe, it has the biggest Cork and Oak forests too. The river that surrounds the hillside is teeming with wildlife too and it is a superb place to explore if you are interested in history as the area was the site of the earliest settlements in Europe.
There are also horse riding stables a few minutes drive from the town where you can experience the wonderful countyside on horse-back and a train station just 10 minutes drive away for inland day trips.
There are numerous bars, restaurants and shops in Jimena, the cheapest of these are the traditional Spanish 'Tapas' bars which you will find tucked away in the back streets.
There are two public swimming pools, one is at the campsite 10 minutes walk away The other is near the Town square also about 10 minutes walk down the hill.
Jimena hosted the first International Music Festival in Andalusia in 2002 and it has now become quite an attraction for music lovers locally and internationally who flock here for the second week in July each year. It attracts some of the most internationally famous Spanish and European and new world artists including local contributions from the Flamenco school in Jimena. You will experience a wide range of music and dance here including classical, jazz, flamenco town square,
During the festival the square and streets of the old white town are magically illuminated at night and the party atmosphere is concluded on the final evening with a firework display over the castle perched above the town. If you are a music or festival lover this a week not to miss!

Guestbook
Myfanwy and party from Wales: Our stay was perfect in every way – spectacular wildlife, beautiful scenery, comfortable house, delicious food and wine – what more could you ask! We did venture one day to Gaucin, but really Jimena had everything we wanted. In the mornings we picked a lemon from your lovely tree to have lemon tea on the terrace and watched eagles and vultures soaring over those beautiful hills and valleys. Then after a day spent exploring the river and woods, which are a garden of Eden, back to the cool of the terrace with a couple of bottles of wine and some delicious bread and olives. It was one of the happiest holidays we have had. Best wishes, Myfanwy
The Smith Family From Birmingham: August 2005: Great holiday, we really enjoyed it. The house was lovely and spacious and immaculately clean. The town was very interesting plenty to see and do and the locals were very friendly. We enjoyed going to the swimming pool at the camp site and had some great days out at the coast too. We will definitely return next year. Thank you very much! Kris & Sandra.
