Home description
La Fabrica de Bombas was originally built as a factory manufacturing cannon balls during the Great Siege of Gibraltar in 1779-1783. It enjoys a romantic setting on the banks of the Hozgarganta River, with stunning views across the Alcornocales National Park - a cork-oak forest filled with wild flowers, plants and animals, on a principle bird migration route. The dramatic backdrop of craggy rocks crowned by the ruined Moorish Castle gives this stunning property a truly unique location.
It is situated only 10-minutes walk from the shops, bars and restaurants of Jimena de la Frontera - one of Andalusias most beautiful white villages. It is a traditional working village, where you can find spontaneous authentic flamenco in the early hours of the morning. Experience real Spain, only a 30 minute drive from the beaches and golf courses of the Costa del Sol. It provides an ideal base for day trips to the Atlantic coast, Ronda, Seville, Jerez, Gibraltar, Cadiz and even Africa (Morocco).
La Fabrica is the west wing of the old factory. The stunning, walled garden, has its own beautiful kidney-shaped swimming pool, BBQ and alfresco eating areas. There are 2 further typical andalusian courtyards filled with colourful flowers.

The Costa de la Luz / Cadiz Province region
The origins of the village of Jimea are very old. It has in turn been occupied by the Iberians (decendants of late bronze age people), Phoenicinans, Carthaginians and Romans when it was known as Oba. Renamed Ximena (later to become Jimena) de la Frontera by the Moors in the 12th century. Today Jimena is one of the 25 plus villges that make up the Pueblos Blancos (white villages of Cadiz province). Their name derives from the dazzling whitewashed walls which contrast with the windows and balconies filled with pink and red flowers and the bright blue sky of summer.
Jimena enjoys a micro climate which means that it enjoys a mild climate all year round. There are many places of interest a short drive from Jimena. The beaches of both the Mediteranian and Atlantic are within easy reach. Ronda is a 50 minute train journey. Cadiz, Seville, Jerez, Malaga and Gibraltar are all easy day trips. You can also visit Afrira for the day. Morroco is less than an hours ferry ride from Algecirus.
Activities in Jimena include horse riding, trecking (gentle walks and hikes) and bird watching.

What a lovely place!... and a fantastic setting especially when lying by the stunning pool. We are hoping to come back next year with the in-laws. Amanda Brahams, Crouch End, London
The place was the perfect place for our family holiday. We have 3 children under 5 and found La Fabrica to be totally child friendly. Lockable gates everywhere....especially to the swimming pool, highchairs, cots, cbeebies and babysitting on tap. Dave & Emma Stevens, Bristol
'Thank you for a very enjoyable holiday, the accommodation was perfect for 3 couples. We loved the peace and tranquility of La Fabrica, but also really enjoyed being walking distance to the tapas bars of Jimea. We would have no hesitation recommending you to friends'. Jenny Sherwood, Devon
What an amazing find. A piece of history in an untouched part of Spain. Simon Richardson, Madrid, Spain
