The South/Borders region
The chief place of the Middle Marches on the Scottish side, Jedburgh, from its proximity to the Border, was the scene of constant strife and bloodshed almost from its foundation in the 9th century. The town suffered severely at the hands of the English, notably in 1523 when it was attacked by the Earl of Surrey. In 1544-45 it was sacked and burned by the Earl of Hertford.
Now a peaceful country town, Jedburgh provides the ideal centre to visit the Border Abbeys and stately homes or a place in which just to wander at ease and explore the surrounding countryside.
Jedburgh area
Overwells is ideally situated for walking and cycling as well as exploring the unspoilt Borders countryside. It is near St Cuthbert's Way and the Four Abbeys Cycle Way.
Visitors are invited to walk anywhere on the farm and explanations on farming operations will be given if requested. For children, Jedburgh Deer Park and Harestanes Visitor Centre are excellent places to visit, as well as the swimming pool in Jedburgh.
For the golfing enthusiast, there are any number of courses and Overwells is only 5 miles from the Roxburghe Championship Course.
Kelso Race Course is only 9 miles away with National Hunt meetings held regularly from November until May.
For those requiring retail therapy, Edinburgh and Newcastle are both just over an hour's drive away.
Full central heating and fully equipped for a really comfortable holiday at any time of the year.
Due to nearby water gardens, Millhouse is only suitable for children over 6 years old.
Stunning views into the Cheviot Hills, yet only 3 miles from the historic town of Jedburgh - where visits to the Abbey, the Castle and Mary Queen of Scots House are a 'must' - and there are excellent shops, restaurants and pubs.
