The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
The 'White Coast' or Costa Blanca region of Spain is regarded by many as having one of Europe's finest climates. It has wonderful contrasts of scenery from beaches, pretty secluded coves with a backdrop of local orange and lemon groves to dramatic rugged mountain scenery, pine forests and charming little villages to explore inland.
Both Alicante and Valencia have much to offer, with some beautiful old buildings, museums, places of interest, coupled with wonderful flourishing covered markets. In 1986 the World Health Organisation recommended the climate in this area as one of the most equitable in the world - neither too hot in the summer nor too cold in the winter. Javea enjoys a typical subtropical Mediterranean climate, with cool sea breezes in the summer and mild temperatures in the winter. The region averages about 3,000 hours of sunshine per year (about 325 days per year) and the average temperature is more than 20 degrees Centigrade.
Javea / Javea Port area
If you are not familiar with Javea you may not know what to expect. Javea is a small fishing town that still has a lively port. But the main attraction for me is that it’s still very Spanish. Its one of the most popular destination for the Spanish holiday makers. So you better brush up on your Spanish. But don’t worry too much, you soon pick it up, and all restaurants have menus in English.
Javea is seen by many as one of the most attractive towns on the Costa Blanca, particularly in as much as there are many modern apartments built, yet the local planners have managed to avoid high rise development.
The town has three distinct parts, each within about 2 kms of each other.
The Old Town is set in the hillside with lots of quaint, narrow streets, small plazas, shops and restaurants and it overlooks the sea and orange groves. It is dominated by the wonderful old San Bartolome church, mostly dating back to the 16th century. The bustling weekly outdoor market is well worth visiting as well as the attractive covered market next to the Church. This is where many of the festivals take place.
The Old Port is built around the lovely old fishing port and a beautiful marina. The fishing port has a small yet flourishing fishing fleet and a fish market where fish is traded at auction at the end of each day. There is a modern and most unusual Church dedicated to the fishermen. The promenade bordering the beach and sea is lined with indoor/outdoor restaurants and bars. Immediately behind the sea lie pretty streets and plazas with a wide variety of quality shops and several restaurants and bars.
El Arenal is a bustling and lively part of town and is located about 2 kms South at the end of the horseshoe bay. It has a fine, sandy beach and is well served by many shops, bars and restaurants.
Terra Mitica Spains premier pleasure park is only a 35 minute drive.
There are many beautiful beaches close by, with Javea having a pebble beach (LaGrava) and having a lovely sandy beach (ElArenal) which is a large natural bay with dozens of restaurants and bars. This is approx 2km from the apartment. ElArenal turns into a gift market in the evening with many of the locals selling there hand made items. Also many stalls where you can get Henna Tattoos, paintings and lots more. Its great for adults and the children.
