The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Javea is justly proud that its climate is rated ‘environmentally near perfect’ by the World Health Organisation what that means is glorious summer weather without the oppressive heat of further south. Javea sits at the most Easterly point on mainland Spain.
One hour drive north takes you to Valencia and one hour south to Alicante - both have a beautiful old city centre with lively nightlife, port and beach areas
Historical castles of Xativa and Guadalest are both within an hour's drive.
There are worthwhile day trips to the fortress village of Guadel’est or even take the ferry to Ibiza. Closer to Javea visit Gata de Gorgos for cane and ceramics. Towards Alicante there are a number of attractions including the Terra Mitica theme park which is an excellent day out for the young and young at heart, the Mundomar marine & exotic animal park or Aqualandia water park for the energetic.
Javea / Balcon Al Mar area
Javea is ideal for families, there are very few hotels and almost all visitors are groups of families and friends who rent villas. Balcon al Mar (translates as Balcony of the Sea) is up in the pine hills overlooking the town and it's position means there is usually a cooling breeze at night for comfortable sleeping.
Javea sits at the most Easterly point on mainland Spain. A medieval town with a Roman and Moorish history it can be divided into 3 distinct areas - the old town (narrow cobbled streets, 16th Century church and whitewashed houses), the port area and lastly the beach.
Locally there is horse riding, golf, tennis, go-karting, jet ski, windsurfing, scuba diving, other watersports and designated nature walks.
There is a covered market in the old town and a Thursday outdoor market where you can shop for anything from cheese to chorizo, from lace to leatherwork. The picturesque fishing harbour is a working port. Stroll along and watch the days catch being brought in before dinner. The modern yacht club is also situated here.
Evenings are lively along the promenade at Arenal Beach where there are a score of bars and restaurants and dozens of craft stalls as well as exclusive boutiques. The beach has lifeguards and showers and there are safe separate play areas for children of various age groups.
How to get there
Alicante and Valencia airports are just over a 1 hour drive
Casa Gordon is 7-8 minutes drive from the popular sandy Arenal beach in Javea, which has many bars and restaurants. A 5 minute drive in the opposite direction brings you to Granadella - with a beautiful pebbled beach in a secluded cove setting.
There are also 2 local restaurants within easy walking distance of the villa.

The windows benefit from bug screens and for cooler weather rentals there is under-floor heating and double-glazing. The patio and naya area around the pool catch the last rays of the evening sun before spectacular sunsets over Montgo Mountain. The upper floor consists of a bedroom which sleeps two. There is a king-size continental bed (that's two x 3 ft mattresses in the one frame) and an en suite bathroom with toilet and shower. A door leads directly to the roof sun terrace with loungers. On the ground floor there are two bedrooms. One has twin beds, the other has a continental king size bed (see above). The latter has French Windows leading directly to the patio and pool. Both bedrooms have large built in wardrobes with masses of hanging space and shelving as well as chests of drawers. These bedrooms share a very large bathroom that has two washbasins, a bath with a shower, a separate tiled shower, a toilet and a bidet. Fresh linen and towels are provided weekly. All the bedrooms have electric fans and bug screens on the windows, so you can sleep with open windows. For colder rentals there are fleece blankets and duvets. There are hair dryers in each bedroom. The kitchen has all the normal utilities (dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge freezer, electric oven, gas hob, toaster, electric kettle, juicer, coffee maker, iron, ironing board etc). Ther is a copious supply of crockery, cutlery and cooking implements as well as cooler boxes and bags for picnics There is a patio/drying area outside the back door. Further details outdoors: The Villa benefits from a layout that ensures that it is not overlooked and children are safe because the plot is fenced behind a mature garden of palm trees, olive trees, herbs etc. The covered naya has ample space for outside dining and is furnished with a table and chairs for barbecues and all alfresco eating. The patio area around the pool has sun loungers and the sun terrace above the naya is a hot spot which also has loungers. Just 3 steps down from the naya is the 9m x 5m oval swimming pool which has Roman Steps and is illuminated for night swimming. There is a tiled outside pool shower. The pool is professionally maintained and cleaned twice weekly in high season. There is a lockable garage and a gated drive with a turning area giving secure off road parking. From the balustrade at the side of the pool area there are panoramic views of the Mediterranean and Montgo mountain.
Further details
If you are a party of more than 6 then additional sleeping arrangements can be made by using the sofa bed in the sitting room which opens up to a double or there are two single foam chairs which unfold into single beds which you can place anywhere in the villa - both downstairs bedrooms have the floor space to take one of these if you do not want the resultant loss of space in the main area of the house. Guests have successfully used these as extra children's beds. Cots are available for a small extra charge (25 euros per week) A local English and German speaking company manages and maintains the property and are on call to help if you have any problems.
