The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
The Northern Costa Blanca has long been a popular holiday destination for Spaniards and foreigners alike, mainly due to the amazingly varied scenery - from rocky coves & dramatic cliffs, to sandy beaches & mountain views, Also not forgetting the wonderful healthy climate, which can boast over 320 days of sunshine a year.
There are a number of activities for children in the Benidorm area, which is only a 30minute drive away - Aqualandia water park, and the famous Terra Mitica theme park, with some of the best rides in Europe, and theTerra Natura safari park. Adults can also take in a show & a meal at the Benidorm Palace, which hosts major entertainment variety shows.
But for those who want to be more active, there are several golf courses in the area. Javea golf course is right on the doorstep. La Sella and Oliva Nova are only a short drive from Javea. The tourist office offers free guided walks of the old town of Javea & coastal area during the summer. Pleasure boats also sail between Cabo San Antonio and Denia 3 times a day.
A visit to the Waterfalls of Algar is a must – this is a natural beauty spot set high in the mountains behind Altea. Walk along with paths alongside the beautiful river as it tumbles down the mountain and swim in it pools and waterfalls. Guadalest is an ancient Moorish settlement and fortress, lying about 45 minutes inland from Altea, and is one of the most visited tourist spots in the whole of Spain.
Javea area
Originally an old fishing village Javea has long been the destination of choice for discerning visitors who are not interested in the mass-market, high rise resorts. Holidays in the area centre around the family, and visitors to the area usually spend most of their time at their private villa or apartment, enjoying the privacy and their own company.
Javea is divided into three distinct sections, all quite different to one another - the old town - the original Javea, set slightly back from the coast and the place to visit if you're interested in Spanish history and culture. Here you'll find charming, narrow streets, a truly Spanish feel to the place. Thursday's a good day to visit when there's the large outdoor market.
The port area - still a working fishing port and a delightful place to visit with its mixture of fishing vessels, luxury yachts and seafront bars and cafes.
But it's the Arenal Beach which attracts the vast majority of holidaymakers - a beautiful crescent shaped sandy beach with a gentle slope to the sea and a wide promenade lined with bars, cafes, restaurants, gift shops. The blue flag standard beach is monitored by the Red Cross Beach Patrol, which makes it ideal for young & old alike. During the summer months, there is a small fair for the children with rides, trampoline & go-karts.
