Home description
Casa Tranquila offers the perfect holiday accommodation for one or two discerning couples or a small family who enjoy the peace and quiet of a semi rural location yet like to be within easy reach of the many restaurants and bars that Javea and Denia have to offer, both only 10 minutes away. There are some pleasant walks from the house, a small supermarket and butchers just over 1 km away and several bars and restaurants plus the Marriot hotel with La Sella Golf Resort (tennis too) within 3kms. The apartment is the lower floor of an attractive villa situated high on the Montgo mountain adjoining the Montgo Natural Park and, facing south, benefits from maximum sunshine and warmth during autumn, spring and winter, while during the summer there is usually a welcome breeze and a generally more comfortable climate than at sea level.
The apartment is very private, quiet and completely self contained. You will find the apartment clean, fresh and exceptionally well equipped, part of a loved and well cared for home. Guests of the apartment will have private use of the large 10mx4m salt water pool (low chemicals) and the extensive terrace which offers plenty of shade.
During the hot summer months the apartment is always pleasantly cool, although fans are provided in every room. During the winter months the apartment is warm and cosy, heated by the sun and gas central heating. The apartment is well insulated and ventilated and thus does not suffer from the dampness which blights many properties here during the cold months. To make the most of the winter sun there is always a sheltered sun trap to be found on the terrace.
The lay out of the apartment is such that the bedrooms are well away from each other and each has an en suite shower or bathroom thus offering complete privacy for two couples sharing. The apartment is also suitable for a family with older children. Sorry, young children are not accepted (please see conditions below) If you are just one couple please note that I give a very generous discount on the rental rate (see price list) and if you are two people traveling together but would rather not share a room the rate for two still applies, even though you can use both bedrooms.

The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
5 GOOD REASONS TO HOLIDAY ON THE COSTA BLANCA
• Excellent weather with mild and sunny winters and long, comfortable summers. • A choice of 3 airports. • 3 large and historic cities to explore plus many towns • Beautiful rugged coastline and sandy beaches • Attractive and varied countryside
The Marina Alta area of the Costa Blanca, halfway between Valencia in the north and Alicante in the south, is blessed by a gentle maritime climate that brings mild, sunny winters and long summers when the temperatures rarely become uncomfortably hot (unlike the interior and further south). It is also an area that usually receives sufficient rainfall to keep it pleasantly green and allows the cultivation of fruit and vegetables without the use of poly tunnels that are an eyesore in some regions. The coast here is very attractive with rocky, pine covered headlands, small pebbly coves and sandy bays.
Both Valencia and Alicante are historically interesting and worthy of a day trip, as are many of the towns and villages of this region. Murcia is further away but still within reach for a day trip. Benidorm, much maligned but with a charming old town that is popular with older Spanish holiday makers, Terra Mitica theme park, a water park and zoo park, a wonderful beach and several big name discos (not called clubs in Spain -that would mean something very different!) is only about 45 minutes' away by car.
Javea / Montgo Toscamar area
Javea (Xabia in Valenciano) is arguably the jewel in the crown of the Costa Blanca. It is protected from the cold northerly winds by the Montgo mountain (753m) and enjoys an enviably warm and sunny micro climate. It lies between two headlands, the Cap San Antonio to the north which protects the harbour and marks a marine reserve, and Cap de la Nao to the south. These headlands, as well as the Montgo, have some excellent marked walking routes.
Javea is divided into three distinctly different areas. Firstly the working port ( el Puerto) with its marina, harbour for the fishing fleet, low key sea front bars and restaurants, pebbly blue flag beach and a delightful mix of chic boutiques and "ordinary" shops. Then there is the holiday resort area of the Arenal with its protected bay of fine sand (again blue flag) backed by bars and restaurants, traditional seaside shops and boutiques and low key nightlife with several small discos. Between the port and the Arenal is a rocky and stony beach of about 1km with beach bars (in high season) Last but not least is the historic town of Javea, el Pueblo, with its narrow streets winding between impressive stone houses, a fortified church, an excellent museum, daily covered market and plenty more shops, bars and restaurants. Javea has been spared the high rise developments of so many towns and this helps to preserve its almost intimate, traditional atmosphere.
The nearby towns of Denia (10 minutes) and Gata de Gorgos (5 minutes) have plenty more shops and restaurants for you to enjoy. A brand new shopping and leisure complex opens in February 2008 and is less than 15 minutes away. Javea has a cinema that shows new release films in English during the week.
Spain is renowned for its tradition of fiestas and the Comunitat Valenciana has plenty. Your holiday will be all the more enjoyable and memorable if it coincides with one of the local fiestas.
6th January - The Three Kings 15th-19th March- Fallas in Valencia Comunitat. Valencia and Denia both hold Fallas. (Google it!) (not Javea) 7th April - Santa Semana with solemn parades (esp. in Valencia) (Not Javea) 24th April - 3rd May Fiesta of Jesus Nazareno in Javea with dancing in the street and bull running. ( low key) 7th - 24th June -Fiestas de San Juan. Javea pueblo fiesta with bull running, bonfire jumping, corre foc (again Google) fireworks, live concerts featuring well known Spanish groups, parades, mascletas and much more. The last week of this Fiesta is particularly worth being here for but do not count on being in bed before 2am most nights! 11th - 19th July - Moors and Christians fiestas in the Port. More parades, music and dancing. 29th August - 8th September Fiesta de Virgen Lorento in the Port with bulls in the sea (if they are not very clever) a mascleta, more music, corre foc, parades culminating in a fabulous firework display.
And that is just Javea! Don’t worry if your dates do not coincide with the Javea fiestas because there is almost certainly going to be a choice of fiestas to attend in the nearby towns and villages during the summer.

Further details indoors: The entrance to the apartment is from the terrace adjoining the pool. A fully glazed door opens into a sunny living room with two sofas. At the far end of the living room a door lead to a bedroom with twin beds, a fitted wardrobe with drawer space and an en suite with shower. N.B. This is a small shower room and is not suitable for very large people. Also leading from the living room is an attractive curved corridor leading to a lovely modern kitchen / dining room which is fully equipped for self catering, although with fabulous local menu del dia at 11 euros including wine you may not wish to cook very often! Off the kitchen is a storage room with washing machine. Leading from the kitchen is the second bedroom with a super king bed, a built in wardrobe, plenty of drawer space and a large en suite bathroom with shower.
All rooms enjoy southerly views across the terrace to the pool and beyond to the tree tops, valley and the mountains in the distance. There is central heating throughout (believe me - you will need it during the winter evenings) All windows are fitted with insect screens and external roller blinds to keep rooms cool and mosquito free during the summer and both bedrooms and the living room have electric fans. Due to the elevation and the nature of the build of the property the apartment remains significantly warmer in winter and cooler in summer than most properties and air conditioning is not necessary.
Furnishings are of a good quality and the apartment has been freshly decorated and equipped.
Further details outdoors: For those who enjoy swimming the pool will be a delight. As it is a salt water pool (only just discernible) chlorine use is minimal and the water is kind to skin, eyes and hair. The pool is large and deep, designed for serious swimming. Adjoining the pool are two covered areas, therefore dense shade is always available, as well as areas that are always in full sun. Sun loungers and outside chairs are provided, as is a gas barbecue. The garden has citrus, palm and olive trees and plenty of flowers. There is even a section of terracing dating back from when the Moors were in Spain.
From the terrace you will be able to enjoy spotting the plentiful bird life, especially the pair of Eagles that nest on the Montgo, the Bee Eaters from North Africa, Hoopoes and, if you are very lucky, a Night Jar. Several different species of Owls can be heard at night and the night sky can be spectacular from the terrace. There is also a delightful roof terrace which is reached by a spiral staircase and allows you a 360 degree panorama taking in the rocky face of the Montgo, the sea, the valley with its orange, almond and vines and the craggy mountains in the distance. Sunsets can be superb here.
For the less active holiday maker the shady terrace is the perfect spot for reading, writing, sketching and painting and simply relaxing while for the more active, apart from walking, swimming, golf and tennis there are also diving schools and a sailing club in Javea which offer certified diving and sailing courses.
Further details
Sheets and towels and a welcome pack are provided. Swimming towels provided on request . There is no extra charge for cleaning at the end of the rental period although guests are requested to leave the apartment in a reasonable state. Change over day will normally be Saturday but this can be flexible depending on existing bookings.
Conditions
Due to the quiet nature of the property, as well as the proximity of the pool to the villa and the access to the roof terrace, only older children who are good swimmers are accepted at the owners' discretion. The shallow end of the pool is also deeper than is normal. There are several steps down to the apartment and a few internal steps too which may or may not be a problem for the elderly or infirm - please discuss with owner. Please provide a land line phone number with your booking enquiry. The local medical services are very good and if one of your party has any medical conditions that might be of concern while you are away I am a registered nurse and will be on hand to advise, assist and translate for you during your stay. Please make sure you have a reciprocal health card and adequate medical insurance.
