Casa Tranquila
About the home
Casa Tranquila offers the perfect holiday accommodation for one or two discerning couples (or a family) who value peace and quiet yet like to be within easy reach of resort centres. Javea and Denia are each only 10 minutes away by car while Moraira is about 20 minutes away. The apartment is the lower floor of an attractive villa situated on the Montgo mountain adjoining the Montgo Natural Park and, facing south, benefits from maximum sunshine and warmth during during the year making it an ideal spot for winter sunshine breaks. During the hot summer months there is usually a welcome breeze and less humidity than by the sea. There are some pleasant walks from the house, a small supermarket and butchers nearby and numerous bars and restaurants plus the Marriot hotel and La Sella Golf Resort (tennis too) within 2kms.
The apartment is very private, quiet and completely self contained. You will find the apartment clean, fresh and exceptionally well equipped with everything that you could possibly wish for self catering - a real home from home with good quality cooking utensils and plenty of table ware. There is a large gas barbecue and dining outside is a pleasure at all times of the day thanks to plenty of shade. In the evening the terrace is subtly lit so that you can enjoy the spectacular display of stars here while you dine, or you can put on the pool lights to enjoy a late night swim. The extensive terrace has plenty of colourful pots of plants and the gardens are full of a variety of Mediterranean trees and plants. The view of the Montgo mountain to the north, a local landmark that can be seen fror miles around, is breathtaking from the terrace and pool and there are also extensive views to the south as well.
Guests of the apartment have private use of the large 10mx4m pool and the extensive terrace which offers plenty of shade. The pool has wide steps leading into the water which are pleasant to sit on while enjoying the sun. It has a new saline system for purifying the water and this ensures that the use of chemicals within the pool water are minimal - no more red eyes and green hair!! It is also an exceptionally deep pool which is safe for diving into (deep end of course!)
During the hot summer months the apartment is always pleasantly cool, although fans are provided in every room and there is air conditioning in the bed rooms for use at night if it is exceptionally hot. During the winter months the apartment is warm and cosy, heated by the sun and gas central heating. The apartment is well insulated and ventilated and thus does not suffer from the dampness which blights many properties here during the cold months. To make the most of the winter sun there is always a sheltered sun trap to be found on the terrace and it is invariably warm enough to eat outside on a sunny day.
The two bedrooms, each with en suites, are at either end of the apartment, thus offering more privacy when two couples share. The apartment is also suitable for a family with older children. Please note that very young children are not accepted ( see conditions below) If you are just two people renting please note that I give a very generous discount on the rental rate (see price list) and if you are two people traveling together but would rather not share a room the rate for two still applies, even though you can use both bedrooms. Single sex couples are welcome. The beds are comfortable and the bed linen is of good quality.

Further details indoors:
The entrance to the apartment is from the terrace adjoining the pool. A fully glazed door opens into a sunny living room with two sofas. At the far end of the living room a door lead to a bedroom with twin beds, a fitted wardrobe with drawer space and an en suite with shower. N.B. This is a small shower room and is not suitable for very large people. Also leading from the living room is an attractive curved corridor leading to a lovely modern kitchen / dining area which is fully equipped for self catering, although with fabulous local menu del dia from 9 euros including wine you may not wish to cook very often! Off the kitchen is a storage room with washing machine. Leading from the kitchen is the second bedroom with a super king bed, a built in wardrobe, plenty of drawer space and a large en suite bathroom with shower over the bath.
All rooms enjoy southerly views across the terrace to the pool and beyond to the tree tops, valley and the mountains in the distance. There is central heating throughout (important during the winter evenings) All windows are fitted with insect screens and external roller blinds to keep rooms cool and mosquito free during the summer and both bedrooms and the living room have electric fans. Due to the elevation and the nature of the build of the property the apartment remains significantly warmer in winter and cooler in summer than many properties in this area.
Furnishings are of a good quality and the apartment has been freshly decorated and is exceptionally well equipped.
Further details outdoors:
For those who enjoy swimming the pool is a delight. It is maintained by a salt system and the use of chemicals is minimal thus kind to skin, eyes and hair. The pool is large and deep, designed for serious swimming. Adjoining the pool are two covered areas offering shade plus a wide terrace in full sun from dawn till dusk with a large parasol if required. Teak sun loungers with cushions are by the pool plus there is a teak dining table, chairs and a gas barbecue for al fresco dining. The garden has citrus, palm and olive trees and plenty of flowers. There is even a section of terracing dating back from when the Moors were in Spain.
From the terrace you will be able to enjoy spotting the plentiful bird life such as the Bee Eaters from North Africa, Hoopoes and, if you are very lucky, a Night Jar. Several different species of Owls can be heard at night and the night sky can be spectacular viewed from the terrace or the roof terrace. The delightful roof terrace, which is reached by a spiral staircase, allows a 360 degree panoramic vista taking in the rocky face of the Montgo, the sea, the valley with its oranges, almonds and vines and the craggy mountains in the distance. Sunsets can be superb here.
For the less active holiday maker the terrace is the perfect spot for reading, writing, sketching and painting and simply relaxing while for the more active, apart from walking, swimming, golf and tennis there are also diving schools and a sailing club in Javea which offer certified diving and sailing courses. For guests who are not English some English conversation and language classes can be arranged, as can Spanish conversation classes and Spanish language classes by prior arrangement with native Spanish speakers at a very reasonable price.

There is no additional charge for cleaning at the end of the rental period although guests are requested to leave the apartment in a reasonable state.

There are several steps down to the apartment and a few internal steps too which may or may not be a problem for the elderly or infirm - please discuss with owner. Please provide a land line phone number with your booking enquiry. The local medical services are very good and if one of your party has any medical conditions that might be of concern while you are away I am a registered nurse and will be on hand to advise, assist and translate for you during your stay. Please make sure you have a reciprocal health card and adequate medical insurance.
Smokers are requested not to smoke in the apartment but are very welcome to smoke outside.

The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region

The Costa Blanca is blessed by a wonderful Mediterranean climate with short, mild winters and long summers that are rarely uncomfortably hot. Autumn and spring are invariably lovely too and there is sufficient rain to make this a green and fertile strip of coast. Grapes, oranges, nisperos, avocados, olives and almonds are grown while inland cherries there are cherry orchards..
Communication links are excellent with the AP7 motorway running along the coast providing easy access to Valencia, then Barcelona and France to the north and Alicante, Murcia and then Andalucia to the south. With two major airports just over 1 hours drive away, both connecting with the rest of Spain and Europe (and the USA during the summer) plus the port of Denia for trips to the Balearic Islands, access is remarkably easy. For visitors from the UK a long weekend here is perfectly feasible, taking advantage of last minute deals with the budget airlines. Travel with hand luggage only for an even better deal.
Both Valencia and Alicante are interesting cities, each worthy of a day trip. The mountain ranges to the west provide the chance of a pleasant excursion away from the coast with pretty mountain villages and wonderful scenery to discover. Families with young children will find plenty to do here if they can wrench themselves away from the pool and the beach. Benidorm is less than an hour away and here you will find Terra Mitica theme park, Mundomar and Aqualandia water park and Terra Natura zoo park, as well as excellent beaches. In and around Javea you will find a small crazy golf course, go-carting, horse riding, a sailing school with courses for children, boat trips and you could even try a spot of fishing from the Port sea wall. There is a new shopping centre and multi screen cinema (with the facility to listen in English), bowling alley and amusements only 15 minutes away.
The Javea / Montgo area
Javea (Xabia ) is arguably the jewel in the crown of the Costa Blanca. It is protected from the cold northerly winds by the Montgo mountain (753m) and enjoys an enviably warm and sunny micro climate. In the winter it is rarely troubled by the cold sea mists that can be unpleasant to the north, including Denia. Javea lies between two headlands, the Cap San Antonio to the north which protects the harbour and marks a marine reserve, and Cap de la Nao to the south. These headlands, as well as the Montgo, have some excellent marked walking trails.
Javea is divided into three distinctly different areas. Firstly the working port ( el Puerto) with a marina, harbour for the fishing fleet, sea front bars and restaurants, pebbly blue flag beach and a delightful mix of chic boutiques and "ordinary" shops. Then there is the holiday resort area of the Arenal with its protected bay of fine sand (again blue flag) backed by bars and restaurants, traditional seaside shops and boutiques and low key nightlife with several small discos. Between the port and the Arenal is a rocky and stony beach of about 1km with beach bars (in high season) Last but not least is the historic town of Javea, el pueblo, with its narrow streets winding between impressive stone houses, a fortified church, an excellent museum, daily covered market plus large Thursday market and plenty more shops, bars and restaurants. Javea has been spared the high rise developments of so many towns and this helps to preserve its traditional atmosphere.
The nearby towns of Denia (10 minutes) and Gata de Gorgos (5 minutes) have plenty more shops and restaurants for you to enjoy. A shopping and leisure complex opened in 2008 and is less than 15 minutes away. Javea port has a cinema that shows new release films in English during the week except in the peak season.
Spain is renowned for its tradition of fiestas and the Comunitat Valenciana has plenty. Your holiday will be all the more enjoyable and memorable if it coincides with one of the local fiestas.
6th January - The Three Kings
15th-19th March- Fallas in Valencia Comunitat. Valencia and Denia both hold Fallas. (Google it!) (not Javea)
17th April Santa Semana with solemn parades (esp. in Valencia) (Not Javea)
24th April - 3rd May Fiesta of Jesus Nazareno in Javea with dancing in the street and bull running. ( low key)
7th - 24th June -Fiestas de San Juan. Javea pueblo fiesta with bull running, bonfire jumping, corre foc (again Google) fireworks, live concerts featuring well known Spanish groups, parades, mascletas and much more. The last week of this Fiesta is particularly worth being here for but do not count on being in bed before 2am most nights!
11th - 19th July - Moors and Christians fiestas in the Port. Spectacular parades, music and dancing.
29th August - 8th September Fiesta de Virgen Lorento in the Port with bulls in the sea (if they are not very clever) a mascleta, more music, corre foc, parades culminating in a fabulous firework display.
And that is just Javea! Don’t worry if your dates do not coincide with the Javea fiestas because there is almost certainly going to be a choice of fiestas to attend in the nearby towns and villages during the summer.

| Airport: | Alicante and Valencia: 90 km |

| Ferry: | Denia (to Balearics): 10 km |
AIRPORTS: Javea is very easily accessed from all parts of the UK and Europe being within an easy drive (less than 1hr 30) of both Alicante and Valencia airports. All the budget airlines have regular flights to both these airports, with Easyjet having several flights per day from the major UK airports during the summer season. There can be some wonderfully cheap deals to be had, notably Ryanair and Easyjet, and Javea makes a perfect destination for an out of season short break as well as a long holiday. The journey from both airports is very straight forward as the Mediterranean motorway is easily accessed and passes within 7kms or so of Javea. Murcia airport is also a feasible alternative but is a little more than 2 hours drive, again by motorway. As there is no penalty for flying in to one airport and out of another a great way of seeing Spain is to have a 2 centre holiday eg a week in Barcelona and the Pyrenees and then a 5 hour drive for a weeks beach holiday in Javea.
DRIVING: Many people choose to drive between the UK and Spain, a pleasant holiday being a 1 week stay in Javea and 3 nights each way leisurely drive through France and Northern Spain. Alternatively the ports of Santander and Bilbao on the North coast of Spain are reachable within a day.
CAR HIRE: For very competitive rates from the main suppliers contact bravocarhire.com (no extra charge for picking up at one airport and dropping off at another) A better than average insurance is included with this company.
NB Book your car hire as early as possible as there can be problems with supplying the car of your choice in the peak summer months.

I could not recommend this enough. The villa is very comfortable with lots of space outside and a great salt water swimming pool. Wonderful views of the hills in the distance and of Montgo itself when lying on a lilo in the pool! We had a very happy time. Lots to do in easy reach of the villa and we were made to feel very welcome by the owner. Hoping to go back soon. |
