Hacia el Sur
Villa | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
Hacia el Sur is a very beautiful, traditional villa on two levels, surrounded by 3,000m of sloping Mediterranean gardens with panoramic views from the Mediterranean Sea across the valley to distant mountains.
It gives a wonderful sense of peace in a very tranquil setting on the edge of the Montgo National Park, with a stunning and very private gated pool and Jacuzzi built within an ancient natural mountain ravine, a huge barbecue, a large dining terrace and two sun terraces. It has hot and cold air conditioning and central heating throughout, a log-burning stove, Wi-Fi and satellite TV.
The position is amazing, with lovely southerly views and an incredible backdrop of the Montgo mountain which looks more like a film set than reality. One of the most attractive features is that, in addition to the upper level lounge, dining area and kitchen, the owners have created a complete summer environment at the garden level, including an superbly equipped summer kitchen, a lounge and bar area, a large al-fresco shaded dining terrace plus a summer dining room for less clement weather, and a huge barbecue big enough to roast a whole lamb, offering several very different environments to enjoy rather than just the more normal 'pool holiday'.
Throughout the garden and terraced areas, there are many little places where one can relax, forget the world and reflect on things more beautiful.

The Costa Blanca/Valencia region
Jávea is a jewel on the Costa Blanca, combining great natural beauty and modern facilities with the charm of ancient fishing port, a traditional Spanish village, golden sandy beaches and clear-water pebble beaches, rugged mountain areas, unspoiled costal regions, a mild year-round climate, delicious cuisine, extensive tourist facilities and many sport and leisure activities.
Jávea has long been called Amanecer de Espana, Dawn of Spain, because it occupies a far point of land looking eastward over the Mediterranean Sea. The rising sun's path catches variously the three headlands. One day San Antonio, another day San Martin, or Cabo de la Nao sees the first golden rays. But always day dawns over that blue sea, enriching the life of the old Spanish fishing community.
And for something completely different, just half an hour away are Terra Mitica Theme Park which is an ancient-world themed park with a variety of rides and roller coasters, the Aqualandia Water Park, one of the largest water parks in the world, plus Mundo Mar where you can see dolphins, seals, sea-lions and exotic birds.
There is a sense of contentment, which wells up and exists just under the surface here. This is partly because Javea continues to be a working port and not just a tourist mecca; but also because it is a place where people from many parts of northern Europe come to live permanently, not just a few weeks a year.
There is much history here, with the influence of the Moors much in evidence, with perhaps the ancient San Bartolome Church containing the soul of the village. One of its inner walls was there in 1244 when King Jaime El Conquistador defeated the Moors here, whilst the outside wall is pockmarked by fusillades of the Civil war seven centuries later.
Hacia el Sur is only a few minutes drive away from the sea, golf courses, tennis courts and the many delightful restaurants of Jávea. In fact, two of the very best restaurants in Javea are minutes away, plus two of the best 'meal-of-the-day' restaurants.
In addition to Javea's magnificent beaches, there are several beautiful bays to visit each with its individual charm. Along the 2km stretch that separates the Port and the sandy beach area, popular beach bars - 'chiringitos' - spring up in the summer and are wonderful venues for a relaxing drink or meal overlooking the rustic coastline. The two promenades are both lined with excellent restaurants and bars - the local authority positively discourages poor cuisine and style. There are many local activities including golf, scuba-diving, sailing and water sports and cycling - and it is famed for its walks.
Locally you can shop for the wonderfully fresh fruit and vegetables, the wine of all qualities at low prices, the incredible almond blossom in the early spring, the outside markets, the fields of orange trees, literally hundreds of restaurants and, of course, always the clear air and star-lit nights.
