The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
The Costa Blanca can satisfy most peoples sporting desires. The warm seas are perfect for diving, snorkelling and water skiing. Jet Skis, Windsurfing and sailing are also available. From the Port marina fishing boats and yacht charters are available. You can visit Ibiza on a day trip from Denia port a 15 min drive away.
There are 3 golf courses in the nearby surrounding area, one of which is located next to the 5 Star Marriott Hotel complex, complete with International Health Spa. Behind the arenal beach there is a large Tennis Club with Horse Riding too. Javea is within a 30 min drive to Benidorm, which has a large water park 'Aqualandia', the Dolphin Sea World Centre 'Mundomar' and 'Terra Mitica' theme park which has some of the largest rides in Europe. There is also 'Vergel Safari Park' not to be missed.
The closest cities are Alicante and Valencia about an hour drive in opposite directions. Valencia is a bustling city full of history, stunning architecture and beaches as well as host city to the 2007 America's Cup. A day trip to Valencia would give your Javea getaway a new perspective.
Javea has its own 3000ft mountain 'The Montgo', this area is a nature park where you can walk or rock climb and enjoy incredible views across Javea and along the scenic coastline
Javea / Pinosol area
Javea is divided into three distinct sections, all quite different to one another. There's the old town - the original Javea, set slightly back from the coast and the place to visit if you're interested in Spanish history and culture. Here you'll find charming, narrow streets, shopkeepers speaking the local language "Valenciano" and a truly Spanish feel to the place. Thursday's a good day to visit when there's a big market in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
Then there's the port area - still a working fishing port and a delightful place to visit with its mixture of fishing vessels, luxury yachts and seafront bars and cafes.
But it's the Arenal Beach which attracts the vast majority of holidaymakers - a beautiful crescent shaped sandy beach with a promenade lined with bars, cafes, restaurants, gift shops and ice-cream parlours
Javea is relatively quiet for most of the year - until the months of July and August when the Arenal area turns into a 24-hour playground. It can be noisy at night during those two months but most of the villa accommodation is at a "safe" distance where families can relax in peace and quiet.
Due to the town's fortunate weather and seaside location, the beaches and water sports in Javea, Spain are legendary. Many of the beaches have received a Blue Flag rating, which is a European honour bestowed upon only the finest beaches in the world. An ancient fishing village, one of Javea's major industries is still fishing. However, most people think of sailing, surfing and scuba diving when the local water is mentioned. The biggest craze with couples in the past several years has been kite surfing, which is both an exhilarating, yet newbie-friendly, action sport. Water sports are a great draw for the tourists and expatriates, so the summer is the obvious busy time of year.
How to get there
For a cheap flight from the UK, try one of the budget airlines such as Britannia, Monarch or Easyjet.. Or use another great search-engine like www.sidestep.com. Most companies offer an online booking system and this is fast becoming the most popular way to both find and pay for the cheapest tickets. Alicante (ALC) is the preferred airport but Valencia (VLC) is another alternative. Javea is located approximately 100 km from both the above mentioned airports. Car rental is available at both airports and is recommended.
