The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Spain’s Costa Blanca is a fascinating mixture of scenery and towns of which Javea is arguably the most spectacular and prettiest. A bonus is Javea’s climate which the World Health Organisation once described as near perfect with its mild/warm year-round temperatures. Javea is split into 3 portions; Javea Old Town, Javea Port and the beach area (Arenal). The medieval old town has not changed much over the years; it is a maze of narrow winding streets, white fronted homes adorned with wrought iron balconies and gothic style windows. The Old Town leads down to the fishing port and harbour; home to an array of restaurants and bars, many serving the catch of the day. If you enjoy Indian food a must is the Gurka Palace located just off the Port area – the best we have ever tasted!
The most famous feature in Javea is the mountain “the Montgo” Javea´s habitants swear it’s an elephant turned in to stone. You can even see the elephant’s eye close as the sun goes down. Especially if you have had some sangria!!
The tourist office offers free guided walks of the area in English and Spanish during the summer. Also in summer, pleasure boats sail between Cabo San Antonio and Denia up to 3 times a day. Accompanied horse rides and lessons are available at the Centro Hipico Javea. There are a number of activities for children in the Benidorm area, which include Mundomar Marine Park, Aqualandia Water Park and Terra Mitica 'historical' theme park. El Vergel safari park is 20 minutes north (near Denia) and also in the area are a number of go-karting tracks. Javea has one of the most attractive seaports along the Mediterranean, due both to its location and to its unsurpassed fishing and sports installations. The modern Yacht Club at the sports marina has nearly 300 berths and facilities for all types of water sports, sailing, fishing, scuba diving, water skiing, windsurfing etc
Nearby places of interest include:
- The Fuentes del Algar (the waterfalls of Algar) – this is a natural beauty spot set high in the mountains behind Altea. Walk the paths alongside the beautiful river as it tumbles down the mountain and swim in it pools and waterfalls – truly amazing.
- The Candelabra Caves (Cuevas del Canalobre) is a single huge chamber 150 metres long, 630 metres above sea level, and containing many dripstones, some of them looking like a candelabra, giving the cave its name. The rock is calciferous limestone, and was formed during the Jurassic period between 135 and 200 million years ago.
- Guadalest - The ancient Moorish settlement and fortress of Guadalest, lying about 45 minutes inland from Altea, is one of the most visited tourist spots in the whole of Spain and has been declared a National Heritage Site.
The Javea / La Cala, Javea area
Nearby, still in Javea, there are lovely small unspoilt coves and beaches such as La Granadella and also Portichol with its very pretty island and bay. There is plenty to do too. Walking, golf, scuba diving, swimming and sun bathing are the obvious. But there are plenty of others. Fiestas are everywhere. Every town will have at least one fiesta - so you can be almost certain to experience one during your stay. The ancient and traditional costumes, the bands, the noise and spectacle of the fireworks are heart stopping! Try and see a Moors and Christians battle re-enactment - unforgettable.
The bustling Arenal area is basically the sandy blue flag beach which is surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants (Los Remos being our personal favourite). It's a great place to walk along the promenade in the evening. It's very touristy obviously and is the least Spanish part of Javea but nevertheless it is a crucial part.
During the evening in the summer there are various stalls here selling a variety of handmade crafts. Many of the bars have live music and there are several discotheques.
The weekly market is on Thursday morning. A great place to visit for all your souvenirs and to take advantage of the local produce, better quality and substantially cheaper than the supermarkets.

We recently stayed at Casa Clara with our young daughter and some friends and had a great time. The villa is beautifully presented with all the mod cons you could hope for, the pool is great and big... more

We have recently returned from your villa, having holiday with another family. In total 4 adults and 4 girls aged from 4 years to 9 years.
We were all really impressed with the decor of the villa. It is extremely modern, spaceous and homely. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the pool and all the toys and floats available to play with. We found this a lovely relaxing place to stay, the villa is on a corner site and is totally private. The lockable gates at the front of the property gave us additional peace of mind that the girls could play in the grounds without wondering out onto the pavement.
The BBQ area was perfect and we had several BBQs and sat out on the naya porch till late at night enjoying the warm weather.
The villa is located just a short drive from the main Javea arenal beach area and and we enjoyed wondering among the market stalls at night and trying out a few of the local restaurants.
The villa is extremely well maintained and we couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay and Clare was very quick to respond to any emails regarding our holiday before we travelled.
On the day of our arrival we were able to access the villa at lunch time as it had already been cleaned and Sue rang to let us know it was available early. This was an added bonus.
We will definitely return to Casa Clara and our only regret is that we didn't book it for two weeks.

We have just returned from a 1 week stay in Casa Clara. We travelled as 2 families including 4 children aged between 9 and 4. We chose Casa Clara because of it's modern presentation and on arrival we were not disappointed. The villa is extremely spacious and well maintained, the kitchen is fully equipped and the bedrooms were very spacious with large built in wardrobes in which to hang our clothes.
We made full use of the outdoor facilities, enjoying all of our meals outdoors in the naya and making use of the outdoor BBQ. The pool is a fantastic size and all 4 children throughly enjoyed their time in the water - there were plenty of inflatables and pool toys available, and we left the ones we purchased behind too. Having a washing machine also mean't that we were able to get all of our washing done and dried in the Spanish sunshine before we came home - a big bonus!!
Having WiFi available was a bonus and mean't we could keep in touch with family and friends. Javea itself is a short drive away and has plenty of restaurants to chose from. An after dinner stop off to Smöoy (authentic frozen yogurt shop) along the seafront is a must!
We throughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful villa and definitely plan to re-book a longer stay in the future.
Thank-you Clare & Derek for allowing us to stay in your beautiful villa. We'll be back!
