The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Spain’s Costa Blanca is a fascinating mixture of scenery and towns of which Javea is arguably the most spectacular and prettiest. A bonus is Javea’s climate which the World Health Organisation once described as near perfect with its mild/warm year-round temperatures. Javea is split into 3 portions; Javea Old Town, Javea Port and the beach area (Arenal). The medieval old town has not changed much over the years; it is a maze of narrow winding streets, white fronted homes adorned with wrought iron balconies and gothic style windows. The Old Town leads down to the fishing port and harbour; home to an array of restaurants and bars, many serving the catch of the day. If you enjoy Indian food a must is the Gurka Palace located just off the Port area – the best we have ever tasted!
The most famous feature in Javea is the mountain “the Montgo” Javea´s habitants swear it’s an elephant turned in to stone. You can even see the elephant’s eye close as the sun goes down. Especially if you have had some sangria!!
The tourist office offers free guided walks of the area in English and Spanish during the summer. Also in summer, pleasure boats sail between Cabo San Antonio and Denia up to 3 times a day. Accompanied horse rides and lessons are available at the Centro Hipico Javea. There are a number of activities for children in the Benidorm area, which include Mundomar Marine Park, Aqualandia Water Park and Terra Mitica 'historical' theme park. El Vergel safari park is 20 minutes north (near Denia) and also in the area are a number of go-karting tracks. Javea has one of the most attractive seaports along the Mediterranean, due both to its location and to its unsurpassed fishing and sports installations. The modern Yacht Club at the sports marina has nearly 300 berths and facilities for all types of water sports, sailing, fishing, scuba diving, water skiing, windsurfing etc
Nearby places of interest include:
- The Fuentes del Algar (the waterfalls of Algar) – this is a natural beauty spot set high in the mountains behind Altea. Walk the paths alongside the beautiful river as it tumbles down the mountain and swim in it pools and waterfalls – truly amazing. - The Candelabra Caves (Cuevas del Canalobre) is a single huge chamber 150 metres long, 630 metres above sea level, and containing many dripstones, some of them looking like a candelabra, giving the cave its name. The rock is calciferous limestone, and was formed during the Jurassic period between 135 and 200 million years ago. - Guadalest - The ancient Moorish settlement and fortress of Guadalest, lying about 45 minutes inland from Altea, is one of the most visited tourist spots in the whole of Spain and has been declared a National Heritage Site.
Javea / La Cala area
Nearby, still in Javea, there are lovely small unspoilt coves and beaches such as La Granadella and also Portichol with its very pretty island and bay. There is plenty to do too. Walking, golf, scuba diving, swimming and sun bathing are the obvious. But there are plenty of others. Fiestas are everywhere. Every town will have at least one fiesta - so you can be almost certain to experience one during your stay. The ancient and traditional costumes, the bands, the noise and spectacle of the fireworks are heart stopping! Try and see a Moors and Christians battle re-enactment - unforgettable.
The bustling Arenal area is basically the sandy blue flag beach which is surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants (Los Remos being our personal favourite). It's a great place to walk along the promenade in the evening. It's very touristy obviously and is the least Spanish part of Javea but nevertheless it is a crucial part. During the evening in the summer there are various stalls here selling a variety of handmade crafts. Many of the bars have live music and there are several discotheques.
The weekly market is on Thursday morning. A great place to visit for all your souvenirs and to take advantage of the local produce, better quality and substantially cheaper than the supermarkets.
How to get there
Fly from UK mainland airports with easyjet.co.uk, flymonarch.com, ryanair.co.uk amongst others to either Alicante or Valencia (can be cheaper , less package holiday-makers and often less busy than Alicante).
- Hire a car with carjet.co.uk (recommended) and enjoy a scenic 80/90km (60-75mins) journey
- Good motorway routes with tolls (approx €5/€6 one way) between both airports and junction 62 of the AP-7 motorway

Guestbook
We have just spent a wonderful 7 days at the stunning Casa Clara Villa. A delightful Villa with everything a family would need for a relaxing holiday. Very impressed with all the amenities provided and the location was superb. Very peaceful but Javea only a 10 minute drive away. The villa had a lot of finishing touches that truly make this a luxury villa. Would thoroughly recommend to all. Hughes Family, W. Yorkshire - Aug '08.

Stunning villa, had a fabulous time, would certainly come again. Thanks Dion F. - London June 08.
"Just returned from a few days at Casa Clara, it was really lovely and had everything we needed for a really relaxing break. I went with 7 friends for my 30th birthday and would reccommend this for any groups/families looking for a luxury villa holiday . All the bedrooms are a good size, the master bedroom has a really great bathroom. The surrounding area is beautiful and Javea was a lot bigger than we expected, with some nice little shops and restaurants. We spent most of our time in the pool but were only there a few days, wish we could have stayed longer! Thanks very much to the owners and the local contact who was very helpful" - Harriet S. London - April '08
