The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Javea and the surrounding hills and mountains are on the coast half way between Alicante airport and Valencia airport and is considered the most attractive and green hilly area of the Costa Blanca without the high rise tourism associated with areas much further South. It has been voted 'environmentally near perfect' by the World Health Organisation' with scenic rocky coves, wonderful beaches and dramatic cliffs. The beautiful city of Valencia lies in an extensive plain devoted to market gardening and the cultivation of oranges & vines. Its architectural heritage reflect both a rich historical past and an ultra modern science city not to be missed, only an hours drive away. Valencia hosts Amdericas Cup this year,First time the classic sailing race hasbeen held in Europe Sailing will take place very close to the shore line so spectators will be able to follow the action from the beach. -- If you do not know the Javea area you will be surprised how green it is compared with the trip up from Alicante airport which is parched and arid in comparison. The surrounding mountains give the area a little more rainfall overall, but don´t worry, hardly any falls in summer and there are 320 days a year with sunshine. ---- The lack of high rise development (an historic accident) and nearby beautiful cliffs and coves has made it a special area for not only the British and other northern Europeans but also many from Madrid and Valencia. Whilst English is widely spoken, the facilities reflect this cosmopolitan mix with hundreds of bars and restaurants of all types but only one English style fish and chip shop (but still very welcome!). There are several discos at the beach in l`Arenal but go to one of the many bars or restaurants first as they don`t get going until very, very late! However, taxis to and from the villa are available at all times of the day and night (only 5 miles). Our nearest restaurant which also has a separate bar/pub and live jazz is 100yds down our country road for those that prefer to walk!
Javea / Montgo area
....old town of Javea has many historic buildings set along narrow winding streets that all seem to lead to the church and market square at the centre. Several times a year the town bursts into life with the colour and noise of aThe Fiesta, often including bull-running through the streets, and fireworks. The port area is home to a local fishing fleet and a modern marina. Over the years it has also evolved into a trendy lunch and dinner destination with its waterfront restaurants and cafe bars. Dominating the fishing port is the modern silhouette of the Church of Nuestra Señora de Loreto, with it's awe-inspiring roof representing a ship's hull.
Javea area Javea can be split into three main areas, the old town, the port and the Arenal (with long and wide safe sandy beach). ---- The small old town of Javea has narrow picturesque streets with a fortified church and covered market in the centre. The small port is for fishing boats and pleasure boats (see the afternoon market stall with fish landed a few yards away) with shops, restaurants and bars next to the beachside promenade. The Arenal, south of the port, is where Javea's attractive sandy blue flag beach gently slopes into the warm sea. It has a long promenade that curves round this bay with many (single storey) shops, restaurants, bars and open air stalls next to the beach. Its lively at all times of the year until very, very late (with discoes starting at 11pm for those with a lot more stamina than us!). This lively atmosphere and great range of restaurants and bars is heavily influenced by the cosmopolitan mix of visitors (lively but not raucus!) with many from Madrid and Valencia in the summer or at weekends. There are many Fiestas in Javea and the surrounding towns and there is a good chance you will be able to see one in the summer as they are so frequent. ---- Shopping in Javea, the local fishing port and the sandy beach area at l`Arenal is very extensive and ranges all the way from open air markets with local produce through to designer shops. Several large local supermarkets have a wonderful range of the freshest produce as well as a huge range of other products. ---- Water sports, fishing trips, sea excursions, scuba diving and horse riding are available locally with many short and long walks along stunning cliffs and down to beautiful coves - some coves are also accessible by car - see the walking maps in the house. Our local mountain called Montgo (see photograph) is 2400ft high with a path to the top for the very energetic! ---- There are five golf courses within half an hours drive (nearest is 5 minutes), including championship courses. La Sella is perhaps the best known and is in a stunning location next to Mount Mongo (3 minutes drive). ---- The beautiful city of Valencia with its ancient buildings, museums, wonderful shopping and water based theme park is only one hours drive away. Also, one of Spain's largest theme parks, Terra Mitica, plus other theme based attractions are 35 minutes drive away and perfect for the the young (or young at heart!), Several towns and villages are certainly worth a day out including Castel de Guadalest - an amazing castle and village perched on a pinnacle high up above a beautiful lake

How to get there
The house is 55 miles North of Alicante airport and 60 miles South of Valencia airport. The A-7 motorway takes you most of the way from both directions (60 minutes from Alicante and 75 minutes from Valencia) and is an easy drive. ---- We will send you very detailed maps and directions when booking. ---- Many budget airlines fly to Alicante and a few to Valencia. These include Easyjet.com, Ryanair.com, flymonarch.com, bmibaby.com as well as the international airlines such as British Airways (ba.com) and Iberia etc. Try www.openjet.com as it searches for the low cost airlines, which is not always the case with other flight search web sites. ---- Its very easy to book a hire car from either airport as there is so much competition and prices are much lower than in the UK (approx. £110 per week for a smaller car in high season). You can book the car online without paying a deposit - just pay by card on arrival for the rental period plus a full tank of petrol and collect the car from the nearby carpark (approx. 100yds). Comprehensive insurance is usually included and so you just return the key when arriving back at the airport - no scratches or dents need be noted when leaving or returning - they often don't even look at the car - this makes it a stress free and rapid process. The best car hire site we have found is drivespain.com but there are plenty of alternatives. ---- There is a very good cab service in this area and a cab can be ordered by telephone at any time. They can also be found at various locations in Javea, Javea Port and the beach resort areas - especially useful when coming back at 3am in the morning! We will be providing telephone numbers and detailed maps to show these locations plus local bus services .
