Enquire nowThe Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Welcome to this exhilarating and enchanting part of Spain. This region stretches from Valencia ( the city that invented paella, is home to Formula 1 and Americas Cup racing) in the North to Alicante (a bustling, bright port and holiday city with vibrant night life) in the south.
The coastline boasts some of the Spain's finest beaches, as well as pleasant natural features such as La Albufera – a freshwater lake famous for it's bird life, eels, flat bottomed boats and surrounding paella restaurants – and charming towns such as Altea – one of the prettiest little pueblos on the Valencian coastline – as well as the tourist Mecca of Benidorm with it's superb beaches and fantastic nightlife.
Along the White Coast of the Costa Blanca you will find some of Spain's most popular beach resorts including Javea, Denia, Moraira, Altea, Benissa and Calpe offering blue flag beaches, excellent sports activities, lovely marinas and fishing ports surrounded by restaurants and bars serving some of the best of Spain's traditional cuisine.
The Javea / La Cala, Javea area
The charming town of Javea (or Xabia in Valenciano) lies between the Capes of San Antonio and La Nao, on the northern section of the Costa Blanca, bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, and is sheltered from the continental winds by Mount Montgó.It is no wonder that the World Health Organization once selected Javea as having a near-perfect climate for longevity! With it's mild year-round temperatures, varying landscapes - from sandy coastlines to rugged mountain areas - and extensive tourist facilities, Javea has still managed to preserve all the charm of an ancient fishing village, and is truly the jewel in the crown of Spain's coastal communities. Javea medieval sounds echo through the historic town centre that has largely been preserved over the centuries. White house fronts adorned with wrought-iron grilles and Gothic-style windows provide a noble touch to the labyrinth of streets and diminutive plazas.
The tourist office offers free guided walks of the area in English and Spanish during the summer. Also in summer, pleasure boats sail between Cabo San Antonio and Denia up to 3 times a day. Accompanied horse rides and lessons are available at the Centro Hipico Javea. There are a number of activities for children in the Benidorm area, which include Mundomar Marine Park, Aqualandia Water Park and Terra Mitica 'historical' theme park. El Vergel safari park is 20 minutes north (near Denia) and also in the area are a number of go-karting tracks. Javea has one of the most attractive seaports along the Mediterranean, due both to its location and to its unsurpassed fishing and sports installations. The modern Yacht Club at the sports marina has nearly 300 berths and facilities for all types of water sports, sailing, fishing, scuba diving, water skiing, windsurfing etc
Nearby places of interest include:
- The Fuentes del Algar (the waterfalls of Algar) – this is a natural beauty spot set high in the mountains behind Altea. Walk the paths alongside the beautiful river as it tumbles down the mountain and swim in it pools and waterfalls – truly amazing.
- The Candelabra Caves (Cuevas del Canalobre) is a single huge chamber 150 metres long, 630 metres above sea level, and containing many dripstones, some of them looking like a candelabra, giving the cave its name. The rock is calciferous limestone, and was formed during the Jurassic period between 135 and 200 million years ago.
- Guadalest - The ancient Moorish settlement and fortress of Guadalest, lying about 45 minutes inland from Altea, is one of the most visited tourist spots in the whole of Spain and has been declared a National Heritage Site.
In Javea there are lovely small unspoilt coves and beaches such as La Granadella and also Portichol with its very pretty island and bay. Javea has long been the destination of choice for discerning visitors who are not interested in mass-market resorts. Holidays in the area centre around the family, and visitors to the area spend hours at their private villa enjoying the privacy and their own company.
For those seeking more, the Arenal beach area and the Aduanas Port areas both offer numerous bars and restaurants. There is the sandy Arenal beach, and numerous rocky coves including the beautiful Granadella beach. Boats and pedaloes are available for hire at the Arenal beach.
Each year Jávea celebrates several fiestas. Ones not to be missed are San Juan, June 18th to 24th, being the main fiesta of the 'old town'. The last night boasts a terrific firework display and the burning of a 'falla'. During July there is the colourful Moors and Christians festival and 1st to 8th September is the Virgen de Loreto, port fiestas. Not to be missed is the last night, 8th September, the firework display over the fishing port is spectacular.
