Casa Del Pato
About the home
Casa del Pato is situated on the edge of the delightfully traditional village of Jesus Pobre and yet is within easy access of the magnificent beaches and historic towns of the area. Many sporting activities can be found within a short distance, including excellent golf courses and exciting sailing, whilst the nearby towns of Javea, Gata de Gorgos and Denia offer a wide range of shops, cultural activities, bars and restaurants.
The house benefits from its own private pool with shallow curved steps, set within a private garden, and boasts magnificent views of the mountain, Montgo. A spacious, covered terrace leads off from the kitchen and living room, providing a wonderful place for 'al fresco' dining and relaxing siestas.
Having been fully restored by the owners from a working farmhouse, the finca is full of Spanish character from a bygone era. Outside, the stone bread oven now doubles as a perfect barbecue area whilst inside, the open log fire and exposed beams create a relaxed and warm living space. The cool terraces and interlinked garden and living space make this house as ideally suited to long, lazy summer holidays as the open log fire does to cosy, winter breaks.
With three double / twin bedrooms and adaptable living space this house works well for families, friends, couples and groups.

The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Being equidistant from the cities of Alicante and Valencia, the area offers enormous variety, both along the coast and within the interior. The long, hot summers are renown and the mild winters provide an additional opportunity to explore the region and enjoy its many sporting activities.
The region is famed for the cosmopolitan city of Valencia offering world-famous events such as GP Formula 1 racing and America's Cup sailing competitions. The historic city centre is host to acclaimed exhibitions, beautiful architecture and vibrant markets with plenty of fashionable tapas bars and restaurants to choose from.
The historical towns of Xativa, Denia, Javea and Altea are all within easy reach providing visitors with a wealth of local food markets, shops, castles and churches along with restaurants, bars and fantastic 'fiestas', or street parties, at certain times of the year.
The Costa Blanca is famed for its rural origins - the word 'blanca', meaning 'white', describes the colour of the coastline when the orange blossom is in full bloom. Today, the beaches are plentiful offering both family-friendly, sandy 'playas' as well as secluded, rocky coves for adventurous snorkling.
The local region is famed for rice growing and 'Paella' is the regions famed dish and is perfect for a long, lazy lunch.
For those feeling more adventurous, the island of Ibiza is just a short ferry-ride away from Denia.
The Javea / Jesus Pobre area
Casa del Pato is a pleasant five-minute walk from the charming village of Jesus Pobre, providing a local baker, two convenience stores, a bank and several, essential bars.
The finca overlooks the slopes of Montgo National Park and provides a splendid setting for walks from the doorstep. These are best in April when the flora and fauna are at their best.
The coastline offers sandy beaches at Javea and Denia (12 minute drive), caves and grottos to explore and waterfalls further inland.
Javea is not, though, just about beaches. The historic town is a maze of cobbled streets, squares, and narrow lanes offering a great opportunity to explore and relax in one of the many cafes. Yet, modern life is just on the doorstep with the town boasting an active fishing fleet, marina and yacht club along with watersport schools, go-karting and much, much more.
For golf-lovers, La Sella Golf Resort is five minutes away offering a wonderful course and there are a further 9 golf courses are within 30 minutes of the house.
Further afield, but easily accessible is the Aqualandia Water Resort, El Vergel Safari Park and Terra Mitica Theme Park.
Last, but certainly not least, the local Fiestas should not be missed! These are hosted year round, by almost every town and dates vary enormously. Please contact the owner for specific details.

We really enjoyed staying in this traditional beautifully kept Spanish house. The villiage is within walking distance and there are lots of nice rural walks to do in the area too. The sea is just a... more |

We stayed in Casa Del Pato for a week and really enjoyed ourselves. It is located in a lovely quiet spot in beautiful countryside. Yet not too far from the village or the seaside which our 4 year old really enjoyed. The house is traditional in style with lots of interesting details which give it a lovely feel and we really enjoyed our stay. The pool was great. Its also in a good location for exploring this part of Spain. We are really looking forward to visiting again this year. |

We are lucky enough to own an apartment in nearby L'Arenal Javea, but always wondered what it"d be like to have our own pool and space to BBQ, hence the rental of Casa Del Pato. The property is fairly isolated and peaceful during the day with a good pool and views of countryside and mountains, all of which we liked. Unfortunately this changes during the night when there are what seems to be packs of dogs howling and cocks crowing at regular intervals nearby.Being in the countryside, none of this can be helped but we were not expecting it every night! The other thing to be mindful of is the large amount of lizards on walls of terrace during the night busy hunting insects which didn't bother us outside property as they were quite entertaining, but we were not so keen when we found them all over the house/bedroom. Again this is natural wildlife which will not harm you but they were easily able to get into house under doors, which might not suit everyone. The wildlife which DID concern us was the presence of rats around (not in) the property. There was a family of rats in the dry stone wall near the terrace, another rat we rescued out of the pool and every evening at dusk when we were relaxing on loungers near pool, there would be rats scampering around the hedges/bushes nearby, which was worrying. We did mention this to both agent and owner who dismissed it with "they're only tree rats" (although we saw them everywhere BUT trees) and the owner told us there was no sign of rats after we left. It was strange that we found a tub of rat bait in the utility room throughout our stay which led us to believe they were aware of problem and dealing with it. Again, it's better to be informed and know about these things so you can make an informed decision about your holiday. Overall, the house was nice but you need to be aware of the pitfalls that come with the location. Response: I am glad that you enjoyed the September weather and swimming. You will find that Spanish dogs are a 'National Noise' - it simply does not worry the Spanish! I spoke to the Agents at length after your stay. I am told that you did not mention the 'rats' until you handed in the key at the end of your stay so the Agents assumed that you had not been sufficiently concerned to have mentioned it before. They are, certainly, tree rats and were most probably after the Carobs which would have been ripe when you were there. I saw no evidence of them whilst I was staying there after you and the guests before you did not make any mention of them. It is often difficult to accept that life in rural Spain is so different from our home environments. The house benefits hugely from the native almonds, olives, carobs and fruit trees which surround it but inevitably they do attract various insects and creatures. Over the years we have discovered that some guests are initially concerned by the unusual sight of geckos (lizards), but they do become fond of them by the end of their stay, embracing them as an integral part of life in rural Spain. Without them the mosquitos would abound! |
