The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region

The Northern Costa Blanca is a popular holiday destination for Spanish and many other European nationalities. The beautiful city of Valencia is worth a visit with its' many monuments, or just for shopping. The area is still famous for its Valencia oranges, lemon trees, almond and olive trees which can be found in abundance in many areas of the region.
The Costa Blanca has several hundred kilometers of coastline comprising a mixture of white sandy or shingle beaches and cliffs. There are many villages and towns with old pueblo centres, working fishing ports and harbours. Javea has a working fishing port where fresh fish can be purchased around 5.30pm each day
In the Javea area, the coastline is dominated by a mountain named Montgo which rises dramatically from sea level to a peak of 750 metres. This is designated a national park and is a popular walking area. Javea, Moraira, Calpe, Jalon Valley and Denia are all within easy reach.
Climate - rated by the World Health Organization as being amongst the best in the world, the hottest months on the Costa Blanca are June to September when temperatures average 28C. In winter the temperatures average 17 - 18C which makes it an enviable all year round destination.
The Javea / Pinomar area
The coastal and stylish town of Javea has three distinct areas of interest for the holiday visitor. The Arenal with its' sandy beach with palm trees. The Arenal and Port are linked by a beautiful stretch of rocky beach. The Old Town (Pueblo) is typically Spanish with many whitewashed buildings, narrow streets, squares, a beautiful church and pavement eating places. The Port has a thriving fish market, as it is still a working port. There is a yacht club/marina, as well as a pebble beach and numerous shops and sea front restaurants. The palm lined beach at El Arenal has a flat sandy beach, ringed by a semi circular flat promenade which houses many restaurants and bars. The forty minute or so stroll to and from the port to the Arenal is flat, but if you don't fancy the return walk, buses and a little taxi train (in the summer months) will bring you back to your starting point.
Market day in Javea is Thursday and is held in the Old Town. Javea has several fiestas throughout the year. All include colourful processions, dancing, bull running and really fantastic firework displays. The most important and colourful is the Moors & Christians Fiesta and parades held in July, an unforgettable experience.
The sandy beach at the Arenal can be reached by car in approximately 4 minutes. In addition, the beaches at Granadella and Barraca are a few kilometres away. Arenal is a Blue flag beach, crescent shaped with palm trees and golden sand. There are lots of bars, gift shops and good restaurants. The blue flag honour is only given to Europe's finest beaches. According to The World Health Organization Javea has one of the most ideal and healthy climates in the world. Javea has no high rise apartment blocks and thus is not spoilt by over development.
During the summer months, the tourist office in the Old Town and the port, offer free guided scenic walks of the area in English, German and Spanish.
There is tennis in the Arenal area of Javea. Horse riding and lessons are held at the Centro Hipico Javea. Boats and pedalos are available for hire at the Arenal beach. The sports marina in Javea Port has all types of water sports - sailing, scuba diving, water skiing and wind surfing. Go Karting and Paint Balling can be found locally in Javea.
Boat trips to Denia, Calpe and Altea are available from the Javea Port area. Longer mini cruises to Ibiza and Majorca are available from Denia Port.
In Benidorm (45 minutes drive away) there is Mundomar Marine Park, Aqualindia Water Park, Terra Mitica theme park (similar to Disney World). Benidorm Palace, a world class cabaret show is a must, with its Las Vagas type show and delicious dinner – never a disappointment.
The nearby village of Gata is well known for its wicker goods and there is a Spanish guitar factory you can visit. The famous village of Guadalest, built on rocks has a castle and beautiful chuch, and is famous for its hand made lace. The water falls at ALGA are well worth a vist - take your swimsuit and swim in the cool pools. There are some spectactuar caves near Buscot where concerts are held from time to time.
There are many picturesque drives into the mountains where you can find lots of lovely traditional cheap restaurants, many of which specialize in local delicacies.
As well as theJavea Golf course nearby, there is another high quality course designed by Jose Olazabal at La Sella. This course is about 20 minuet drive away.
