The Moravia region
Central Moravia is a region of rich folklore traditions. This fertile region extends mainly along the Morava River. Since the 16th century, the region has carried the name Haná. It is famous for its sunny climate (and friendly populace), rich folk costumes, its traditional pungent (some might say smelly) cheese, and a vast number of Baroque cathedrals, churches. Monuments of the region: The majestic castle Bouzov perked high above Litovel is well-known from many fairytale films. Medieval Gothic-Renaissance architecture and Classicism, a unique Museum of Clocks with several hundred items on display, the traditional Ecce Homo hill climb race, all that and more can be found in the town and castle Šternberk. Olomouc - the metropolis of Haná, the largest and oldest historical town reserve in the Czech Republic second only to Prague, also called "the pearl on the green cushion" is located in the centre of the region. Olomouc will please all the senses of its visitors with the scent of flowers at the Flora Olomouc exhibition, with the music of the Olomouc Musical Spring and International Organ Festival, with the dignified curves of monumental churches and palaces, splashing fountains, singing birds in the parks, as well as with the sounds of the modern city. The city is full of historic sights: the Archiepiscopal Palace, Archiepiscopal Consistory, Caesar's Fountain, Dominican Church, Edelmann Palace, Hercules' Fountain, Jesuit College, Jupiter's Fountain, Chapter Deanery, the Chapel of St. Anna, the Chapel of St. John Sarkander, the Cathedral of St. Wenceslas, the Fountain of Tritons and many more. The Basilica of the Visitation of the Virgin is located near Olomouc on Svatý Kopeèek ("Holy Hill"). One of the largest castles in the Czech Republic, Helfštýn, is known for the regular yearly meetings of master smiths "Hefaiston" and a number of other cultural and social events (Fairytale Castle, exhibition of historic cars, Folk Weekend, Castle Ball, etc.). The monuments of Central Moravia listed in the UNESCO world heritage list include: the Archiepiscopal Palace, Flower Garden and Podzámecká Garden in Kromìøíž and the Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc. .
Jaromerice area
The world-famous Macocha Abyss, 138.7 metres deep, with opened riverbed of the undeground river Punkva in the bottom. There are two observation platforms that enable visitors to look into the deeps of the abyss. The Boskovice castle is one of the most extensive castle ruins in the country and it’s hilltop location above Boskovice on one side and Pilské valley on the other makes it also one of the most beautifully set. The first written mention of the castle is from the year 1312, and for the following six centuries of its useful life it was almost continually being rebuilt and extended in architectural styles ranging from the original Gothic to Renaissance and baroque. Bouzov: an originally Gothic castle from early 14th century, remodeled in the Romantic style at the turn of the 19th a 20th centuries for the Archduke Eugen von Habsburg. There are exhibitions in the large exhibition hall. The castle is very popular with filmmakers.
