The Costa Blanca/Valencia region
Situated in the Northern Costa Blanca, this area has a mountainous geography, which makes for splendid views. Here we have hot ,dry, summers evidenced by the dry river beds. There are castles and places of historic interest. Guadalest, a large medieval castle with great views is popular with tourists. There are the local ports of Javea and Denia, where you can watch the boats and sample the many bars and restaurants. The cities of Alicante and Valencia are worth a visit. They can be accessed by road, but also, there is a good train service to Valencia, a vibrant, beautiful city. Alicante has great shops, the El Postiguet beach and the Santa Barbara Castle..Fiestas are held in Calpe, and Jalon hosts an annual Bull Running through the streets. Jalon's vineyards produce cheap, excellent wines, which can be purchased in local bodegas.
There are many clean, sandy beaches, which are all a short car journey away. Calpe is the nearest seaside town and has all required amenities including two large beaches. It also has a popular weekly market. Moraira is a pleasant, bustling resort, with its large beach and interesting harbour, and proliferation of open air restaurants and bars and shops. Javea is not far away, with a high class exclusive feel to it. It has a port area to the north, and a rocky, pebble beach, and a lovely, recently constructed promenade, with many bars and restaurants enjoying fabulous sea views. Jalon town is only a short walk away, and has several bars and quality inexpensive restaurants, which offer wine included in the price of the 'menu of the day'. There is a large supermarket catering for all your culinary requirements. Jalon has two weekly markets, the largest of which is situated alongside the dry river bed.The Jalon Valley, covering many kilometres has many affordable restaurants .'.Pepes', 'La Solana' and 'Los Amigos' in Alcalali ,' The Salamanca' and 'Casa Caty' in Jalon are all great value. There are a great variety of cuisines, typically Spanish (Riu Rau situated next to town alongside the river bed),also tapas bars and Italian, Indian etc. For Chinese restaurants, Calpe houses many excellent, inexpensive establishments. There is a small Tourist Information Centre in Jalon, opposite The Halleluyah Bar fronting the river, which has loads of information on the area plus many, many excursions.
