FourSeasons in the Lusation Hills, North Bohemia:
The lusatian hills straddle the borders of Poland, Czech Republic ,Germany,
as part of a continuing east/west forest, from Hungary – Switzerland

At the foot of the Lusation hills... is a relaxed atmostphere, a landscape 'to be enjoyed in every season'
"a bit of natures sights and sounds" in it's surroundings, slopes, ridges, peaks, rocky formations; prevailing mostly of sandstone, deep valleys, beautiful not very high hills, half covered woodlands and delightful views of meadows and distant mountains with open access to all surrounding countryside land.

Springtime’s fruit blossoms abound.
The Summer’s landscape gives a sense of open freedom.
Autumn's enchanted foliage and leaves, and a Winter’s, snowy wonderland.

The village place of Petrovice is first mentioned in 1391. The original Czech name Podhorská, “dwelling at the foot of the hills” is an exact description. The ‘lay of the land’ shows just that!
Topographically, hills slope away north, east and west, on an undulating landscape of meadows in the forest gaps
The little known history suggests the route is ancient. Coins, with an image of Emporer Gallian 258 were found south of Petrovice, near next village, Knežice.
Napoleon passed along Petrovice village road, going north on the 19thAugust 1813, to defeat, at the Battle of Leipzig 16-19th October 1813.

Jablonné v Podještedí is 3 miles south, down the road from Petrovice. It is one of the oldest town of North Bohemia. Locals do their shopping for groceries here.
At the town centre is a great decorative Baroque Church, steeped in history of Zdislava Berk 1220s-1252; a particular austere and generous woman, memorialised in the crypt
Situated on the Town Square, a memorial stands, with religious figures,donated by an unknown sculptor;
commemorating the lives lost in the black plague of Europe 1680.

Lemberk Chateau, “looks like a country mansion” was Zdislava's marriage home, on the east side of Jablonne. It is a walk or bike ride away, and 5 minutes driving from Petrovice.

Twenty five minutes away is the regional capital Liberec, population 400,000. You can overview the city from the Town Hall. The train ride into Liberec from Jablonne has absorbing interests. Tlhe line cuts through woodlands and tunnelled rock, passes over a viaduct and the land is high, rooling into rural buildings and low valley villages.
There an Aguapark with great water activities, Zoo, Bohemia Museum, Botanical Gardens, Holiday memo's can be shopped for here.
Jested Skala (hill) is there. At it's highest point is a conical sphered tower shaped 'in and upwards' to a needle like point, with restaurant.
International sports, downhill and ski jumping competitions are held there. To go up, travel is by bicycling, hike, and cable car.

The Castles and Chateaus Lakes of the Lusation Mountains
Everything Water:
Machovo 280 hectare Lake just by the market town Doksy
Most significant:
Grabštejn – the castle and chateau at the steep headland near the Nisa river. The upper chateau has been open for the public since 1992 and is being repaired gradually, the lower castle serves as training centre of army service dogs.
Lemberk – the Renaissance chateau at the hill-top near Jablonné v Podještedí, originally a guard castle where in the 13th century St. Zdislava lived.
Oybin – extensive ruins of a mediaeval guard castle and monastery on a steep rock headland.
Sloup – a romantic torso of the castle of some time and hermitage at an isolated rock. Extensive premises cut in sandstone are completed by numerous sightseeing routes and galleries.
Tolštejn – a ruin of a guard castle, in the past the frequent seat of robbing knights.
One of the most valued castles is Bezdéz on Velky (big) Bezdéz 638m.

The Jablonne v Podjestedi / Petrovice area

A Location Full of Interest.
Where 3 countries meet with open borders:
Czech; Poland, Germany (our northern neighbours) just up the road!

Along paths are mysterious, ancient, romantic, and quiet places, to go see.
Along woodland roads a sight seeing drive can take you to some of natures design.
Stroll in local villages or go a rambling walk. You will most likely see roe deer, though shy, they run freely.
Wild Boar are shy and retiring animals. You will be lucky to see them during the day, since they make such tasty sausages, those ferocious creatures have long since learned to stay out of harms way. If you’re keen to see them, late evenings is when they go rambling. Winter, especially brings wild life out of the forest, foraging.

Go cycling, play golf, climbing, swimming resort, horse trekking, walks, hiking,
light and xcountry and downhill skiing, narrow gauge railway.

Ski Sites Regions:
Skiing locally, Lueckendorf 2miles away, for beginners and x country.
At Jested, Liberec, 20miles downhill and advanced, you have to get serious with your skis.

Bicycles available:
Golfing at Malevil 'ranch'. A rare zoo is there, bowling,
rope climbing wall and sandstone pillars, or take a horse treking for hours

An Adventurous Vacation:
A short trip can be arranged to the spa town Oybin in German 3 miles away.
There, you can take the narrow gauge line to Zittau about 10km. 'It’s as far as you can go east, and still be in Germany'.
The phenomenal 'Sharpstone' (red sandstone) like a persons head 40m high, should never be missed.
Trip to Poland10miles to see what is probably the largest hole in Europe.
Unusual naturalised magmatic, basalt rock and sandstone formations are to be seen and provides a spell of interest at various locations around the local area.

Nature Trails.
Hiking over the hills is not too strenuous. Many peaks are easily climbed. You will be rewarded with views of Poland and Germany.
From FourSeasons an adventurous walk through the forest to Popova Hill and you will be rewarded with 40miles views of Saxony Germany and south west Poland.
Hike/ walk to Hochwald, in Germany 4miles away you will see 40miles of Saxony in Germany and south east Poland. Looking south are views of the hill ranges of North Bohemia and on into Czech Republic.

At Cerny Most take (Yellow 'Student Agency' Bus) to Liberec City, 100km. At Liberec take bus or train to Jablonne Town, 20km. Simply take the bus out to Petrovice village or telephone for car pick up to apartment. Total fares 5 pounds.

“Comfortable, friendly base for exploring Bohemia, Saxony and Poland” Well equipped, roomy apartment - half a farmhouse. Friendly and helpful hosts - and natives. Lovely area with lots to explore - by car or hiking. Dining out in the Czech Republic is very good and costs about 1/3 compared with restaurants in nearby Germany. Satnav/GPS recommended when touring, since place names are a challenge...
