Warm weather holidays - late springs and summers are lovely in North Bohemia.

OUTSIDE SPACE - lockable large garden - Alpine flower garden with fruit shrubs, lawn and a private lower rustic courtyard with garden furniture for summer. The garden is still full of beads glistening in the sunshine, discarded as faulty. These are from the 30 or so years when the resident families used work as home workers and make costume jewellery for the Jablonec region companies.

SKIING - you can access Severak Mountain in Tanvald (Northern Hill) skiing centre for the more advanced skier from our local train station, which is just round the corner. It will take about 30 minutes to get to the Severak resort. For less adventurous skiers you can get to other resorts via the local town bus service (advice will be given) where you will find a Ski school and gentler slopes.

The house stands in a quiet road called Ruzova ulice (Pink Street) with large villas and similar style old traditional properties, on the edge of Jablonec nad Nisou. Check the internet for more details about the town, the area and the costume jewellery industry connection.

Ideal place for visiting Prague if you have hired a car, accessed on a good E-road, distance approx. 110 kms. You can park all day just outside Prague in Cerny Most, where you will find a huge car park (Black Bridge) and use the tube from there.

There are also cheap WiFi equipped modern coaches to and from Prague, they run hourly all day. The return ticket is approx. 6 Gbp (180 Czk), and within 2 hrs of leaving our house, you will be in the centre of Prague. You can easily book it on the internet under idos.cz buses.

Other areas of interest are the Unesco Geopark - the Bohemian Paradise near the town of Turnov - about 30 mins drive away, Jizera & Giant Mountain resorts, situated within an hour's drive (or coach drive) near the Polish border. And many spas, castles, drinking chalets and interesting towns. Bohemia has been frequently used as a backdrop in many international films due to the variety of both architecture and countryside.

Our Pink Street House was built in 1897 by a glass manufacturer, Konrad Weberlich. It stands on a hill on the edge of Art Nouveau & Art Déco town Jablonec nad Nisou, near the University and Skiing Championship town of Liberec. Liberec is the Regional city for Jablonec.

From your apartment you will look out a the pine-covered Jizera mountains (Jizera is a river), JIZERKY in Czech. A regular small local train (round the corner) goes to the university town of Liberec and / or directly to the Jizera mountain skiing resort near Tanvald, called Severak.

Main Bus station is a 15 to 20-minute walk into the town /or a short town bus / or a taxi ride. All town buses and coaches are cheap in the Czech Rep., are regular and frequent. The taxi ride will cost you approx. £2 - 60 Kc per journey to the bus station. Taxi contact numbers will be provided.

From the bus station you can reach two more skiing resorts BEDRICHOV and HRABETICE-SEVERAK (Northern Hill) within half an hour.

For spring / summer / autumn holidays - Mushroom picking is a Czech national sport in August and September. Pink Street House stands some 10-minutes from the pine forests for your walks. You cannot get lost easily if you follow the official tourist paths through the hills. They are marked with coloured markers and name places to get from A to B and C, etc. This is to enable you to plan your tourist trips to the nearest place of interest - almost always ending with a pub restaurant in the hills.

You can take a stroll of around 25 minutes to the centre of the attractive town of JABLONEC NAD NISOU, where you will find an elegant shopping centre, several restaurants. Further by the man-made lake reservoir is a sports centre and an indoor swimming pool. In the centre are three unique squares above each other, starting from the bottom of a steep hill - with the Lower, the Middle (called Mirove - Peace) and the Top Square.

An English-language Glass Manufacture and Costume Jewellery Museum is in the Lower Square and really worth a visit.
A new Mr.&Mrs. Sheybal Arts Centre has opened in an old vicarage, after an extensive 2-year renovation. It stands above an international Hotel Merkur, opposite the Church of St. Ann's. Both the church and the Centre were renovated with the help of the EU sponsorship. Above the church of St. Ann's is a charming small hotel / restaurant called Zlaty Lev / Golden Lion, with excellent food, low prices and pleasant service. Next is a CSOB bank for all your needs.

On the edge of the town is a large man-made lake called PREHRADA / the Dam or Reservoir - for summer swimming. There are several unusual churches, large 1920's renovated villas which are often architectual protected gems. The view from the Top Square (or you can climb the Town Hall tower in the Middle / Peace Square if you feel energetic) onto the surrounding mountains with their unique Tower Restaurants is really wonderful.

Within half an hour's drive you will reach the Jizera mountains resorts. And within an hour's drive the Giant mountains / Krkonose resorts on the Polish border.
