The Andalucia / Cordoba Province region

Inland Andalucia is unrivalled for its hospitality, climate, stunning cities, beaches and beautiful scenery. From the cottage you are within easy reach of the famous cultural destinations of Cordoba, Granada and Malaga. Seville is a 2hr drive and you are surrounded by pretty white washed towns and villages known as 'pueblos blancos'
The nearest ski resort is in the Sierra Nevada which is a 90 min drive away. This is a stunning journey and a real opportunity to visit one of Spain's most exciting cultural destinations.
The Iznajar / Fuente del Conde area
The local area has a wealth of real Spanish life & culture waiting to be explored. The landscape is unrivalled, at any time of the year. For everyday supplies, there is a well stocked supermarket and bakery in Fuente del Conde & a great bar/restaurant serving what we think is the best tapas in the area. Iznajar town has the convenience of banks, supermarkets, chemists, fish mongers, hardware stores & hospital. In addition there is a lovely castle, local history museum & library. Restaurants and road side 'ventas' offer simple well cooked and traditional Spanish food and there are a couple of excellent places to eat within a 5 min drive.
No visit to Andalucia would be complete without a visit [or two!] to its famous cultural cities and these are all within easy reach. More locally there is the pretty town of Priego de Cordoba, which boasts more than its fair share of Baroque churches and Antequera, with its stunning architecture, bullring & great shops. Alternatively you can get away from it all completely & visit El Torcal a uniquely ancient limestone plateau north of Antequera, for stunning walks, wild life and bird watching. The wildlife and sunsets are fabulous!
There is a sandy manmade beach on the lake at Iznajar just 10mins drive away with lovely bar/& the nearest coast line is towards Malaga which is 1hr drive away. Here there are superb beaches, restaurants & shopping areas. From the end of July the local swimming pools open & there are two particularly good ones at Villanueve de Tapia & Cuevos de San Marcos.

I stayed at his lovely Cottage for a short break with two friends, we had a lovely relaxing time, sitting on the patio looking at the olive groves, in the evenings and enjoying the friendly local bar! There is plenty to do a little further afield unless like me you just want to relax! Although we weren't totally lazy, and we had some nice local trips, - the cafes in the vicinity are cheap and good. The cottage is pretty and comfortable, the bathroom is particularly modern and nice, and the kitchen is well equipped and good for knocking up some of the local huge red peppers! |
