The Inland Andalucia / Cordoba Province region
Casa Ava is situated just inside the southern boundaries of the 'Parque naturel de la Sierra Subbetica'. It lies off a small country road between Iznajar and Rute on the shores of a large man made lake the Embalse de Iznajar.
Iznajar is a beautiful hilltop town, overlooking a magnificent lake. The lake is not unlike a Scottish loch, particularly in the early morning mist, although this one is surrounded by hills clad with olive groves. There is a beach where you can swim and sail, and good fishing in the waters.
In the summer temperatures climb to the high 30s (celcius) but is rarely uncomfortably humid. Winter months are usually dry with chilly nights, hence log fire, heated pool (at an additional cost) and central heating!
Rute, famous for Anis is just 1.5 miles from Casa Ava. Iznajar lake only 5 minutes away.
Iznajar / La Hoz area
The highlight of the Iznajar calendar is La Feria Real (second week in September) in honour of the patron saint La Virgen de la Piedad. It involves a candlelight procession through the town.
In Rute, mid July marks the festival of the Virgen del Carmen (patron saint of sailors). Every Saturday in July and August from midnight until 5 am is the Musica Aurora celebrating by singing in the streets beginning by the Church up from the high street.
The ancient town of Cordoba is one of the many jewels of Andalucia. It comes to life at night with nightclubs, Flamenco, tapas, many restaurants and bars and is a must during one of the many Spanish festivals. This city remains unspoilt and is a popular destination for the Spanish. All this and only one hour from Casa Ava.
