About the home

La Casa del Abuelo is in a stunning location. The garden, with olive and fruit trees, slopes down to two streams which meet in a wooded valley giving cool greenery, even in the height of summer.
Keen birdwatchers need go no further than the garden to see Azure winged magpies, Golden Orioles, Bee eaters,hoopoes to name but a few. Imagine swimming in the pool and watching rabbits and hares on the hillside, or relaxing in the spa and listening to the nightingales.


The house is built around a vine shaded courtyard. Indoors the large L shaped living and dining area is furnished with comfortable sofas and chairs, and a dining table that extends to seat twelve people.

Around the 8m x4m pool are extensive terraces furnished with sun beds for relaxing in the sun, with a pergola and several umbrellas when shade is needed. A six person spa pool provides the ultimate in relaxation.

The well equipped kitchen leads off the dining area. A door leads out onto a shaded veranda and terrace furnished with tables and chairs for al fresco dining, overlooking the pool and garden and beautiful countryside beyond.

The bedrooms are on two floors, with four ground floor and two upstairs bedrooms. They are comfortably furnished with ample storage space.

The Andalucia / Cordoba Province region

The area enjoys wonderful hot summers, sunny warm springs and winters with chilly nights and many warm sunny days.
Rich in Iberian and Moorish culture - visits to Granada and the Alhambra and to Cordoba are a must. Lots of guide books, and other books of local interest at the house. Olive growing is the mainstay of the local economy.
The market towns of Loja and Archidona are within a fifteen minute drive. In a little over half an hour you could be in Antequera, a charming old town, commanding spectacular views of El Torcal National park, and across the surrounding plains. Close to Antequera is El Torcal National Park, an area of majestic and fascinating limestone columns and formations, with marked walking trails.
For those with a taste for ancient history, Antequera is home to the most important dolmenic complex in Europe. There is a golf course at the Antequera Golf Hotel.
A short drive to the west takes you to Fuente de Piedra, and its lake, with Spain’s only breeding colony of flamingos, as well as a multitude of other bird life.

The Iznajar / Fuente del Conde area

The house is about 6 kilometres from the hilltop village of Iznajar . The town gets its name from the Arabic “Hisn” (castle) and “Ashar” (happy), referring to the Moorish castle which towers picturesquely above it.
Iznajar itself commands views over the surrounding countryside— rolling hills clad with olive groves as far as the eye can see, and the lake –32 kms long and 6 kms wide—almost always a breathtaking blue, as it reflects the clear sky, but spectacular whatever the weather!
The lake provides opportunities for swimming, fishing and sailing.
