The Inland Andalucia / Cordoba Province region
The village is located on the edge of Malaga province on the border of Cordoba province The city of Malaga is full of history and is only 1 hours drive away.Cuevas is 420 metres above sea level and has a population of about 4000.The village church is worth a visit It was built in the 17th century in the late baroque and neoclassical style of the period. The caves of Belda and swimming pool nearby are worth a visit. Cuevas provides an ideal base from which to explore the cities of Malaga, Granada Seville and Cordoba as they are each about one hours drive from the village by motorway.There are many attractions in these cities providing an insight into traditional Spain and its colourful history.
Iznajar / Cuevas de San Marcos area
The main Feria in Cuevas takes place in August with several days and nights of music and dancing in the streets (dont expect much sleep!) Another important festival is Las Candelas taking place on the 7th of December in which choral groups sing around bonfires and candles which are lit in the streets.This festival is celebrated at the same time in other towns and villages in the Axarquira region as is the festival of the Vigen del Carmen on 16th July .This festival is in two parts on thursdays before and after the carnival.The Domingo de Pinta (games Sunday) is held on the sunday after the Carnival. Holy week is an important festival time too.The Villages festival in honour of its patron saint San Marcos takes place on April 25th. Eating out: There is great variety in the local cuisine in Cuevas.One of the traditional dishes is the relleno de carnaval, which is a sausage made of ham meat egg bread and parsley. Porra and gazpacho (cold soups) are very popular. The breads and pastries produced in the village are well known for their excellence .There are several tapas bars and restaurants to choose from such as : Bar Los Faroles tapas Bar-Cafe Desire meats and tapas Bar Morana kidney and roast lamb Bar El Estecho kidney and hot tapas Meson Mangos traditional home cooking Bar La Barbacoa specialising in seafood and roast meats.Pantano de Iznajar History The Caves of Belda and Medina de Belda Archaelogical siteThe Belda Cave provides proof that the first human settlements in this area occured during the Prehistoric period and since then the area has been populated by different civilisations that have left their mark. The menhir (standing stone) known as El Nino de Piedra (The Stone Child) iberian ceramics relics axes and tools from the bronze age confirm mans presence over the centuries.Coins from the Roman Empire have also been found.The caves have one of the most important bat populations in Europe.In the Medina one can see the structure of the houses the streets and the ancient tower as well as the well preserved dungeon

The property is particularly suitable for large groups (walkers artists photographers bird watchers cyclists golfers pot holers etc) although small parties and families are welcome.We will provide logs for the 3 log burners in cooler months Cleaning is included in the rental as are towels and linen so no hidden extras Our English speaking key holders live in the village and will be able to offer advice and local info if required.
Conditions
A deposit of 25% of the total rental will secure the booking.The balance is payable 10 weeks before booking commences.A damage deposit of £200 is payable and returnable on departure .
