The Inland Andalucia / Cordoba Province region
Only 1 hour from Malaga airport, situated above a 32km long lake, is the old Spanish town of Iznajar. With lovely white washed houses and narrow winding lanes. The castle dates from the 8th century while the church dates from the 16th century. If you can manage the climb the views are spectacular, of course you can always stop for some refreshment on the way.
Iznajar area
The village is 15 mins for the autovia, 40 mins from Granada (Al Hambra is a must) and 90 mins from Sevilla, making it ideally situated for sightseeing, a day trip to Gibraltar is also possible.
Or you can simply relax amid the olive groves. Slip into the time warp of the locals, bring your phrase book, the Spanish love to hear us trying to speak their language, and they are so very welcoming. Laze by the pool and then wander to the local taverns for tapas, visit the sandy beach on the shores of the lake, where safe bathing is enjoyed along with fishing and water sports.
However you spend your time here, we can be certain that you will not want to leave. We came for a visit and ended up moving here, and now I could write a book on all of our wonderful adventures made possible by the real Spanish people.
How to get there
Cheap flights available from RyanAir and Monarch flying to Granada an easy 45 minute drive Large choice of budget airlines, such as Flybe and EasyJet (to name just 2) into Malaga an hours drive away Car hire is a must and a wide choice is available at both airports. Further details indoors: Entrance to the main house is through the front of the house directly into a lovely dining room with a fabulous table and 6 chairs. To the left is an airy kitchen with a small table and chairs, double drainer sink, fridge freezer, gas cooker and oven and a dish washer. All cupboards and drawers are soft closing. Plenty of lighting and a music centre to play your Ipod.
To the other side of the dining area is a small comfortable lounge with two 2-seater settees and lovely old coffee table inbetween. To the right of the dining area is a door leading into the "quiet/reading room" area where you can relax in the cool with a good book if you have had too much sun. Through this room and out into a corridor where there is a downstairs shower room with basin and WC and heated towel rail. Up the corridor is the room housing the washing machine. A staircase leads up to a double bedroom with chest of drawers, wardrobe and shelving. All beautifully decorated and airy.
Back downstairs between the dining area and kitchen is the main staircase that leads to a lovely landing area which again has been tastefully decorated and has an arm chair with table beside. Here you will find the bathroom and 2 further bedrooms.
One bedroom is quite staggering and has two large single beds that can be adapted into a kingsize bed. Lovely linen on all beds as you would expect of a house of this cabilbre using soft colours throughout. There is also a wardrobe, chest of drawers and shelving. Very light and pretty room and has the original beam across keeping the original character.
The bathroom is off the landing and has a bath, walking in shower and a "his and hers" basin unit, plus the WC. Modern, clean and lots of storage space.
The second bedroom is the master double bedroom with its own juliet balcony overlooking the pool and hills beyond. A really luxurious bedroom with that "whow" factora with a lovely double bed, freestanding mirror and sofa apart from the wardrobe and chest of drawers and soft tranquil lighting.
Do remember that ALL ROOMS HAVE CENTRAL HEATING if you should need it. This house is for rental all year round.
In addition the casita is next door and sleeps a maximum of 2 people. This has two French doors to the front of the building. It is on one level and is open-plan. The doors look out from a terraced area across the pool. Inside is the lounge with seating for 2 to 4 and dining area with table for 2 to 4 with a lovely kitchen to the right hand side. Again the same soft closing cupboards and drawers, modern marble topped sink unit and gas cooker and oven. There is no central heating here. The shower room is situated up the other end to the rear and has been lovingly tiled out with walk-in shower unit, basin and WC. The double bedroom is opposite and has a kingsize bed. Again using lovely shades of colour and beautiful bed linen and towels.
Further details outdoors: The main entrance is through two large wrought iron gates that can be closed and locked for the night. There is a large amount o parking space around a beautiful tree and small gardens in the centre. Flowers and trees have been planted everywhere.
A path leads to the side of the large property with sensor lighting coming into force as you approach the front door. There is a lovely patio area in the front where there will be a huge lovely old wooden table approximately 6ft x 3 ft with chairs so you can eat your breakfast out there and look out over the pool and beyond.
Wide steps lead down to the pool which has 4 steps leading into the shallow end. The size of the pool is 11mts x 5mts. Do note that towels are provided for the pool and beach. There are loads of sunloungers surrounding the pool and a beautiful addition of square pots with small plants at each corner. A wooden gazebo is situated at the right hand end of the pool for that all important shaded area and with table and chairs for somewhere to eat in the cool. This will also be decorated to the same high standard you become used to and expect in this lovely house. There is also a BBQ for each of the houses, so take your pick if you rent both properties. Olive groves beckon for a gentle stroll, or if you are feeling more energetic why not walk up the track to the nearest village just 2 kms away and enjoy the local hospitality.
Further details
A great place for all to enjoy and relax but note there is no satellite TV or inflatables for the pool. Please bring your own towels for the pool/beach. Bath towels and bed linen are provided plus separate towels for use by the pool.
