The Inland Andalucia / Cordoba Province region
The cottage is idealy located for sightseeing around Andalucia. The drive to Saville is around 2 hours and well worth it. This city is packed full of culture and very pretty. On the road to Saville are other fantastic towns and citys to visit. We recommend Antequera, Ronda, Cadiz, Jerez del la Frontera. Of course there are many pubelo blancos in between these areas that are well worth a visit. A trip to Granada is a must, as is the famous Alhambra palace, you can book on line for your ticket in advance (saves queing!) Cordoba is also 2 hours away and the famous Mezquita is said to be a fantastic day out (we have not been there....yet!) Of course after all this inland sight seeing you may wish to take off to the coast. Malaga is around 50mins away and the following beaches can be accessed (depending on which way you are driving...Torremolinos Benalmadena and Fuengirola. Take a trip up to Mijas whilst there for fantastic views of the coast. Do try the fish bars that line the sea front - delicious!
Iznajar / Fuente del Conde area
Fuente del conde is a small village located 10 mins drive from Iznajar. It has a bar/resturaunt that serves 'the best local tapas and San Miguel in frosted glasses, on a terrace with views to die for. The supermarket is well stocked along with the local bakery. The villagers are friendly and helpful and take a very keen interest in visitors!
Iznajar has its own beach at the side of the lake, this has a range of watersports in season. There are two bar/resturaunts that serve rather large portions of food. A salad will easily be enough for two people for lunch...Try a barbeque on the beach once you have watched how the Spanish do it!
Iznajar is a typical unspoilt Spanish town with winding streets leading to the castle and church. Banks, supermarkets, pharmacists. All other types of shopping can be found whilst meandering throhg the streets. Numerous bars and resturaunts can be found with excellent food. There are magnificent views over the lake from this point.. Rute is another town further dowm the main road and has other facillities. A museum for the local "fire water' Anis is held at the town square which can be located at the upper side of the town. It also has sweet factories that hold tourist visits on the way out towards Lucina. Cholcolate seems to be the delicacy, which they hold a festval for, near to Christmas.
Skiing: Skiing can be sought on the Sierra Nevada some 1 hour's drive away. This resort has a season that runs from November 'til April.
Special interest holidays: Trekking on horseback in the Sabbatica National Park 30 mins away. Walking in the national park. Local towns of interest Iznajar 15 mins, Antequera 30 mins, Rute 20 mins, Granada and Malaga are all within a 1 hour drive. Sevilla and Ronda within 2 hours.
