The Andalucia / Cordoba Province region

Our property is situated deep in the heart of Andalucia away from all the high rise blocks and mass tourism of the busy coastal resorts. We feel that this is the real unspoilt Spain that not everybody gets to experience, rich in local customs, culture and warmth of the local people not to mention the outstanding natural beauty of the landscape.
Cities worth seeing
- This is the perfect retreat for those wanting a chill out holiday whilst being ideally located for exploring the main cultural centres of the Andalucia, especially Granada, Cordoba and Seville.
Visit Granada's magnificent Alhambra palace, the last strong hold of the Moors in Spain, Cordoba's incredible Mezquita mosque & Cathedral and Seville's Cathedral , Giralda tower, plaza de Espana and Real Alacazar.
Locally the charming town of Antequera with it's many buildings of architectural interest , historical Roman and Moorish influences including the Moorish castle overlooking the town is definitely worth visiting.
Weather
- The summers here are long, hot and sunny with cloudless skies perfect for relaxing around the pool whilst spring is also pleasantly warm & the countryside is alive with a profusion of wild flowers in the olive groves
During autumn and winter the cooler weather is ideal for out door pursuits, the sun sets are wonderful, the lemon & orange trees bear fruit and the olives are ready for harvest.
Cuisine
- This is a genuinely unspoilt working rural area producing some of Spain's finest quality olive oil.
Try some typical Andalucian cuisine such as delicious chorizo, Porras Antequera, Jamon Serrano, Morcilla, Gazpacho Tortillas, and many tasty pork dishes with a glass of chilled fino or a rioja in one of many tapas bars or very resonably priced restaurants in the area.
Festivals
- Experience the vibrant energy of the local ferias in the summer months with authentic flamenco, singing, dancing, children's rides, shows and more into the early hours! There are two main ferias in Antequera , May and August. More locally Villanueva de Algaidas first week in August, La Atalaya in May, Iznajar and La Parrilla in early September plus many more in other locations. The more serious but unmissable Semana Santa (Easter) processions and festivities are also a must to see.
Outdoor pursuits
- Walking: There are many local walks of varying degrees of difficulty, with tracks and trails around the nearby lake with stunning views and for more serious walkers the GR7 (Gran Recorrido) footpath which crosses Andalucia passes very close by & into Cordoba province through the beautiful & dramatic SIERRAS SUBETICA Parque natural.
The EL TORCAL - Parque natural with remarkable limestone rock formations, abundant flora and fauna, walking trails & incredible views towards the Mediterranean lies south of Antequera. Approx 50 mins.
El Chorro gorge and nearby lakes with beach water sports. approx. 90 mins
Fuente de Piedra with its huge lagoon & nature reserve is famous for hundreds of flamingo and at least 30 species of aquatic birds.approx. 40 mins.
Washington Irving Route: Follow the route taken by the 19th century traveller/writer from Seville & the Alhambra, Granada described in 'The Tales of the Alhambra'.
-Riding
Nearby is an excellent Riding stables and school offering hacking, trail riding, day & weekend rides ,riding, dressage & jumping lessons and pony rides for children.(english speaking)

Iznajar

The lake beach offers swimming, swimming, canoe & pedaloe hire in summer and this is perfect walking and bird watching country.
Iznajar with its fascinating winding narrow streets, Moorish castle & Church offers many little bars, restaurants and dozens of small shops. The property is situated within an unspoilt typically rural location which produces some of Spain's finest olive oil & you may experience some agricultural noise from time to time. The olive harvesting period runs from approx December to March/April

We've never doen this type of holiday before. We drove from Yorkshire and really enjoyed the journey. We arrived to find the reception so warm and welcoming including.. The owners Roger and Elizabeth are perfect hosts and Roger's cooking is second to none . Set in the hills amongst the olive groves this can be a total chill out holiday or a base for seeing the local sights. We went to Granada to the Alhambra which is amazing. The Casa Limon is spacious and well equiped with a shaded terrace to the 1st floor and a sun terrace on the ground floor. Spotless and clean. Couldn't fault it. Response: Thank you for your review, we look forward to your next visit in La Casita and send you both our kind regards, Roger & Elizabeth |

We were made to feel very welcome by Roger and Elizabeth, despite not arriving until after midnight! The Casa was clean and had everything we needed, the upper terrace was really cosy on those lovely balmy evenings, the pool and surrounding area was great and really difficult from which to to drag ourselves away on the last day! We made lots of use of the good information provided about places to visit, in addition to our own predetermined agenda for trips out. All in all we had a great stay at Casa Limon and plan to return at some point. Response: We thank you very much for your considered review and sned you our best regards, Roger & Elizabeth |
Guestbook for Casa Limon
"Casa Limon has obviously been recently very tastefully renovated. The house was comfortable, very well furnished, all possible needs were considered. The hosts are charming and very willing to give advise and assistance in how to explore the local area. La Parrilla is a very quiet Spanish village, but with a car it is not far to the wonders of Granada, Cordoba, Sevilla, Malaga and the lovely coastal town of Nerja. Despite being there in December, we were able to sit outside for lunch, we also enjoyed lovely walks in the well cared for olive groves. A place to relax with a good book and a glass of wine in evening."
"What we wanted was a place to escape the pressures of a hectic business life & just relax. What we found was more enchanting & relaxing than we'd dared imagine. Roger & Elizabeth are the perfect hosts always available but never intrusive. This is the best place we've found in 30 years of family life. Highlights included trips to Cordoba, Priego de Cordoba and Granada. we'll be back!"

We wish the family the very best for their future plans, they truly deserve it. this is a special spot that makes you feel you own a portion of the world. Thank you till next time."

Re. our one bedroom apartment . The Casita.August 2006.
A fabulous find far away from the frantic pace of working life in England. Nice to be in striking distance of the great cities of Andalucia and the coast but great to be near an unspoilt village with no other tourists around! Roger & Elizabeth are extremely accommodating and child friendly (we were here with an 18 month baby)
Pool a delight after steamingly hot days!

Casa Limon (2 bedroom cottage) July30 - 13 Aug '06
This has been such an oasis of calm in an idyllic sertting. Casa Limon is beautiful with everything we needed for our holiday; a fantastic pool with great views, two lovely terraces providing much needed shade (so badly needed for this time of year) and somewhere to eat, a well equipped kitchen area, airy bedrooms with fans (essential on hot nights) and the perfect location close enough for essentials and within striking distances of the great cities and sights of Andalucia.
I had a great morning's birdwatching with Doreen in the Sierra Gordo seeing Crossbills, black and blackeared wheatears,Chough, Griffon Vulture, Bonellis and booted Eagles (42 species in all!). I highly recommend her trips to anyone interested in birds.
Many thanks Roger & Elizabeth.
