The Aegean Coast region

The Aegean Coast is rich in natural beauty, history and culture. Stunning mountain and beach scenery, cool mountain trails and hot natural spring waters are amongst key attractions. Touched by a mix of historical periods this region boasts numerous ancient and biblical sites, Ephesus and The Virgin Mary House are favourites for visitors. From the Cosmopolitan City of Izmir, popular seaside resorts, Bodrum and Kuşadasi to the delightful villages of Selçuk and Sirinçe, this region has a wealth of appeal. The climate being that of hot summers and mild winters make this a great place to visit year round.

Izmir / Selcuk area

The location of Selçuk has brought people together for centuries and as you wander the narrow winding streets you can sense that 'special something.' The colourful Saturday market, museums, art galleries and inviting boutiques are amongst its charms. For those interested in archaeology there is the Crisler Archaeological Library, it houses lectures and classes for visitors.

Selçuk hosts festivals through out the year; The Camel Wrestling Festival, in January and The Ephesus International Festival, in May are popular with visitors. There are water sports at local beaches and 2 water parks nearby, the Ephesus Air Training centre offers skydiving and parachuting amongst activities. The National Park of Kalamaki (30km south of Kuşadasi) with crystal clear waters and wildlife such as wild boar and dolphins is a stunning location for a picnic. A gentle pony trek in the Sirinçe hills is the perfect way to spend an afternoon.

Relaxing with a traditional Turkish dish, in an inviting restaurant is the most popular way to enjoy the evening hours in Selçuk. On occasion, bars host traditional live bands. Finally, it is the hospitality of the people of Selçuk that will make your stay unforgettable.

How to get there

Selçuk is located on the west coast of Turkey, 70km south of Izmir and 190km north of Bodrum.

You can get to Selçuk by land and sea but most people choose the quicker option of flying which means nowadays there are flights readily available at competitive prices from all major UK and Irish airports to Izmir, Bodrum and of course Istanbul.

However, if you are not keen on flying do not rule out other methods of transport such as a cruise via the port of Kuşadasi as this is only 20km away from Selçuk. Alternatively, for the more adventurous there is a train from London to Istanbul, then from Istanbul to Selçuk via Izmir.

Note. The key is to make your way to one of the bigger cities i.e. Izmir or Istanbul because from here there are lots of ways of getting to Selçuk most of which are direct.
