The Marmara Sea region
The apartment’s bay window -‘cumba’ in Turkish- hangs over a lively pedestrian street (Balo Sokak), so that you can look down upon bustling every-day Istanbul from your own retreat. As you leave the building, next door to the left is a bakery for fantastic fresh-baked bread, and next door to the right is a ‘bufe’ selling Turkish coffee, tea and snacks.
A few buildings further up you’ll find Nevizade Sokak, packed with tables and fabulous restaurants, where at night you can be serenaded by wandering gypsy musicians while you eat. A few buildings more and you’re on Istiklal Caddesi, the main pedestrian thoroughfare and 5 minutes walk away from Taksim square, the commercial centre of Istanbul.
If you do wish to visit Sultanahmet for some historical context (or maybe a carpet?!) then you are 15mins away by taxi or half an interesting hour by tram and tube.

What to do in the neighbourhood of this beautiful Istanbul flat?
Basically anything that you'd like to do! You could start the day with a lovely breakfast at one of the nearby cafes then you could head to the Cukurcuma area for antiques shopping. You could continue your tour by visiting various art galleries and bookshops.
For lunch, you might consider one of the cafe/restaurants located at Asmalimescit. They serve lovely home made food including many vegetarian options. In the afternoon, it might be a great idea to see the whirling dervishes at Galata Mevlevihanesi.
After that, just before sunset, we'd recommend you to climb up to one of the most beautiful towers in the world: Galata Tower, a 13th century Genoese tower and see the 360 degree breath-taking view of Istanbul. If you are ready for an evening drink, you might either have your drink there or go to a trendy bar in Cihangir.
After chilling out, if you are ready for an interesting dinner, you should go to one of the Meyhanes in "Nevizade". Raki, some meze and great atmosphere will satisfy even the most difficult to please ones. If you are not tired yet, Beyoglu night-life is just waiting for you. Feel free to choose one of many bars, nightclubs, cinemas or concert venues.
How to get there
Ataturk Airport is around 20 kms (30-40 minutes). Sabiha Gokcen Airport is around 40 kms (40-50 minutes).
There are airport shuttles operating between Sabiha Gokcen/Ataturk Airports to Taksim every hour (Cost is around 9-10 YTL per person).
Taxis are not expensive in Turkey and the cost to the apartment is around 40 YTL from Ataturk airport and 60-70 YTL from Sabiha Gokcen airport (Please be aware that midnight tariffs are more expensive).
