The Marmara Sea region

Uskudar is a fascinating area with lots of local life, much cheaper food on this side of the Bosphorus, as well as cheaper markets. But the big draw to this area is the overwhelming calm you feel once getting there. Uskudar has all the amenities of the big city, but works at a much slower place. If you are looking for a lazy afternoon adventure, I would head here.

Uskudar is one of the largest districts on the Asian Side of Istanbul. Directly across from Beyoglu, you can take a ten minute ferry ride from Kabatas or Besiktas. The Uskudar shoreline is one of the great waterfronts in the city. There are large stone steps on which you can sit and watch the waterfront. Peddlers come along selling simit, ice cream, tea and odd trinkets. Uskudar is also the easiest place from which you can take a boat to the nearby Maiden's Tower.

Istanbul

You live in the greater center of a huge megacity and had the privilege of lots of green (as green can be in summertime in Istanbul)

The surrounding area is classy and really safe and quiet, fresh air in the garden and a nice large house. Away from the bustle of Istanbul, Istanbul's historic district is accessible by bus and ferry (Vapur).

The area over looks the city, which was perfect for New Years when you are able to watch the surrounding cities light up their fireworks.

Üsküdar is a fascinating area with lots of local life. The house is close to a nice park with great wievs. Perfect for you to get a brake from a busy city.

You should visit the near-by park (Küçük Çamlica), which offers a splendid view over the city with a execellent reasonably priced terrace restaurant on the top.

Travelling to Bosphorus ferries is easy with buses. Taxi from Üsküdar is about 13 TL and from Taksim sq. is still reasonable 35 TL (when you stay late and ferries stop traversing the strait).

Public transport is very good and cheap and using the ferry is better than any expensive tourist boats you would used in other countries, plus only cost about 80p a trip.
