About this location

The Hebrides region

Skye is renowned for its geological formations, the gabbro of the Black Cuillin, the hard granite of the Red Cuillin, the lava landscape of Quirang and Storr and the jurassic sandstone of the pitted rock at Elgol.

The wildlife is abundant around the rugged sea lochs where you may see dolphins, seals, whales otters and sea eagles. Deer are never far away.

With years of history behind it you will be immersed in the archaeology, the turbulent past and charming Gaelic folklore. There are many monuments, castles, folk museums, Scotch whiskey distilleries, art and craft galleries and visitor centres to enjoy.

Isleornsay

I love Elgol - my most favourite view in the world! - Stunning view of the Cuillin Range. Also walk on the pebble beach to the over hanging rock made of Jurassic Sandstone - looks like honey comb.

There's a three mile walk to Camusunary Bothy from a mile outside Elgol.

Take a fast rib to Canna and Rum whale and wild life watch. Ribs can be taken from Elgol - Bella Jane or Seafari from Armadale pier.

Walk 3 miles to the Point of Sleat. Half a mile before the Point there is a track to one of the few sandy beaches on the island - a lovely bay. The point has a wee bothy and views to Rum and the Cuillin.

There is a forest walk at Lettir Fern - near Kinloch Lodge - (which is an expensive/nice place to eat - Lady Claire MacDonald's Hotel)

The local Hotel Eilean Iarmain is great for bar meals - also for dinner. Also there is usually an Art Exhibition on in the summer. There is also Duisdale Hotel and Toravaig nearby with exclusive menus. In Broadford there are a number of restaurants. Visit the famous 3 Chimneys Restaurant at Dunvegan- book way in advance!

There is a great bric a brac store called Breakish Byres on the Broadford to Kyle Road at Breakish. It's an Aladdin's cave.

Pick up the Visitor magazine - which has a map to show you the tourist attractions round the island.

Geographically : Kilt Rock (and the dinosaur prints), Old Man of Storr, Quirang, Macleods Table, Cuillin, Macleod's sisters.

Historically: Flora MacDonalds Monument at Kilmuir and visit a Skye Life museum. Visit Neist Point Lighthouse.

Interest: There is a Museum of Toys in Glendale - an amazing array of old toys.

Whisky Tasting: Locally at Isle Ornsay and at Talisker. There is another lovely walk to Talisker Bay as well.

Travel: An alternative route other than the Skye Bridge is the route via Mallaig by Ferry to Armadale on Skye. Take the coastal loop road to see the beaches and views to Rum.

(Phone Cal Mac to check if the ferries are running and to book. 01471 844 248).

Provisions: There is a good co-op in Broadford and in Kyle before the bridge.

"Fabulous accommodation. Tasteful, clean and a real pressure to stay in."

I can't praise this property enough. The location has to be one of the nicest spots on Skye. The property was fully equipped with everything we could possibly need and the views from every window were a picture in themselves.
We would unquestionably return.
