Caberfeidh Self Catering
Cottage | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
A rare traditional old crofter's cottage, in a stunning area of the Isle of Lewis called South Lochs.
The cozy cottage overlooks the sea is set in its own fenced garden. You can walk to the coast within minutes. The closest neighbors are 100 meters away, and you'd be lucky to see a car go bye, or anyone else for that matter. The Cottage was fully renovated in 2011, and this is this only the second year I am renting Caberfeidh out. The three bedrooms have comfortable double beds, with the third bedroom also has a single bed, and there is a single bed in the Snug.
The Isle of Lewis is a very scenic island in a rugged way, and is the perfect location for walking, fishing and bird watching. Caberfeidh is located in crofting community where you can observe the daily lifestyle of the crofters attending to their livestock.
There are a number of registered walks in the Lochs area, including sign posted walks in local villages of Cromore and Orinsay to Steimreway.
The Ravenscroft Centre, which is a few miles down the road, had a well equipped shop, café, local museum, and visitor information.
Many of my visitors come to Caberfeidh, for the wild life, to walk, fish, cycle, paint and write. You can clamber over the rocky shorelines or walk the moor-land, and even hike to long deserted villages, or just chill in the cottage. Golden Eagles, Buzzards, and Sparrow Hawks are among the birds seen in the area.

Isle of Lewis
With a population 22k, life on Lewis is very different to the mainland. Traditional industries on Lewis are crofting, fishing and weaving. Though historically important they are currently in decline and crofting in particular is little more than a subsistence venture today, with tourism taking a larger role its economy. Although the Outer Hebrides have only 1.3% of the UK land mass, it has 15% of the total still-water in over 2,000 fishable freshwater lochs, which is great for fishermen.

We took a much needed break away to the peace and quiet of a cottage and what a fantastic place to choose! The accommodation provided has been thoughtfully done with lots of finishing touches not normally found in other places we have stayed, it really was like a home and so cosy on an evening infront of the fire. We did lots of walking, the scenery is stunning and the air so fresh, it really made us appreciate how beautiful the island is, thank you for a fabulous time!
