The Bay is a comfortable, family holiday home situated on the sea front in Portnahaven. The cottage overlooks the bay which has a safe, sandy beach - ideal for playing, swimming, and hunting for crabs. The bay is also home to many seals, which bask on the rocks below the cottage. Portnahaven village has a family friendly pub/restaurant serving local produce, and a small but well stocked village shop. You can buy local honey and eggs in the village, and even crabs and lobster from the fishing boat at the pier. There is a fantastic, relaxed atmosphere, and children can enjoy far greater unsupervised freedom than the mainland.

The Bay is a traditional, two-bedroom fisherman's cottage and sleeps 4/5 people. There is one double bedroom, and a small twin, with room for one more on a sofa bed. A cot and highchair are available on request. There is a large, enclosed back garden, with a barbecue area and picnic seating.

Islay has many breathtakingly beautiful beaches and walks and it's easy to spend your whole holiday enjoying these. The roads around Portnahaven are single track, and popular for cycling. Islay is home to a variety of wildlife and rare birds, and you may spot seals, dolphins, basking sharks, sea eagles, choughs during your stay. Islay is world famous for its nine whisky distilleries, and hosts an annual whisky festival, jazz festival and beach rugby tournament.

The Hebrides/Skye region

Portnahaven is situated on the southern tip of the Rhinns Peninsula on the Island of Islay. Islay is known as 'The Queen of the Hebrides' because of it's mild climate and fertile land. It usually has more hours of sunshine than the West Coast of Scotland, and the weather can change from sun to rain and back again very quickly.

The island has many stunning beaches, particularly on the Atlantic Coast. Historically, it was the seat of the Lord of the Isles, and you can visit the remains of their stronghold on the Finlaggan Island. There is a small museum in Port Charlotte.

Islay is popular for family holidays and also swimming, surfing, sea fishing, river fishing, diving, pony trecking, bird watching and cycling. It is world famous for its eight whisky distilleries - Bowmore, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain, Bruichladdich, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Kilchoman. and it also has a micro brewery.

There is an annual whisky festival, jazz festival and beach rugby tournament.

"Lovely cottage, great holiday"
