The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region

Just over the English border lies Dumfries and Galloway in the west and the Scottish Borders in the east. These two very distinctive areas have retained a totally rural and tranquil atmosphere where visitors can enjoy a wonderful holiday away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In fact here you'll find miles of beautiful untouched countryside and striking coastlines; a great place for outdoors holidays, fishing, walking, sailing and cycling. Coastal and beach strolls and small fishing harbours waiting to be explored. The capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh, is probably on most people's ‘must visit' list and with good reason. The city is renowned for its magnificent architecture and historical buildings, which include Edinburgh Castle and numerous museums and galleries. Today Edinburgh is a thriving modern city with world class shops and restaurants and lots of traditional atmospheric pubs.

Isle of Cumbrae

The surrounding Ayrshire region has some of the most wonderful scenery in all of Scotland with miles of unspoilt coast and expansive moorland waiting to be explored. It is also an area steeped in history with the stone circles at Machrie Moor on the Isle of Arran dating back to Neolithic times. There are also a number of other historical sites to discover; Culzean Castle is most recognisable from its illustration on the reverse of Scottish Bank five pound notes and has occupied its cliff top location overlooking Alisa Craig since the end of the 19th century. There are also a number of fantastic activities on offer across the region, from world class yachting at the marinas of Largs and Troon to riding on over 50 miles of cycling routes spanning across the region. The Ayrshire Coastal path runs over 100 miles from Glenapp to Skelmorie and offers visitors to the area a fantastic chance to take in expansive views across rugged coastline whilst enjoying a relaxing walk, be sure to keep an eye out for the rich and varied wildlife found along the way!
