Home description
Louise Lodge is the upper half of a Victorian villa in Royal Terrace, Craigmore, built by the Marquis of Bute. All the villas are named after members of the royal family. It has magnificent views, from the Ayrshire coast through Toward and to Ardbeg on Bute. The furnishings are stylish and comfortable, with every thing needed for a luxurious holiday on this beautiful island.
Bute has three golf courses, good fishing, wonderful sea and moorland walks, good restaurants and a lively pub scene. It is safe for families, with cycles for rent, a swimming pool, cinema and great beaches. There are stunning views from every part of the Island, Arran, Ayrshire, Kyles of Bute and Cowal are just some of the places you can see.
There are various festivals through-out the year, famous Jazz in May, music in the summer and the Highland Games in August. It has something to offer throughout the whole year, along with a mild maritime climate that supports palm trees on the promenade. Mountstuart House, the outstanding neo-gothic mansion in Britain, is an essential part of your visit, along with the gardens and award winning Visitor Centre. The WinterGardens in Rothesay provides tourist information and a cinema. Don't forget to visit the amazing Victorian toilets, as well as Rothesay castle.

The Central Scotland / Strathclyde / Argyll and Bute region
Central Scotland is compact and serviced by three international airports, Glasgow, Prestwick and Edinburgh. Castles, culture, gardens, world-class shopping, restaurants and service with a smile are all here.
The Trossachs and Loch Lomond National Park showcase wonderful Scottish scenery, but every corner you turn will provide another delightful vista.
Argyll offers Inverary castle and Jail, the famous Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, a new marina at Portavadie with a great restaurant, wonderful gardens, fantastic walking and golf and lots more. These are all easily visited on a day trip by car from Bute.
Isle of Bute / Craigmore area
The Island of Bute is one of three main Islands in the Firth of Clyde, the others are Arran and Cumbrae. It has been a holiday destination since Victorian times. Visitors have been attracted by the mild climate, great facilities, family atmosphere and stunning scenery.
Mountstuart House, ancestral home to the Marquis of Bute is a world-class neo-gothic mansion, which had the first indoor swimming pool in the UK. Admire the beautiful marble chapel, where Stella McCartney was married. The gardens are equally gorgeous. It was a private family home until a few years ago.
Bute hosts a number of festivals, including Jazz in the first weekend of May which has an international reputation. The Highland Games are a fantastic spectacle in August.
There is a wide range of restaurants and pubs, all serving good food, much of it produced locally on the Island, eg lamb, beef, cheese, pickles, eggs and sea-food. There are two supermarkets, two butchers and two fish-shops as well as wonderful ice-cream from Zavaronis! Other facilities include a small hospital, indoor swimming pool, three golf courses and fishing opportunities.
